Important top tip : KEEPING LENS CLEAN - I usually use a lens hood and then when inevitably get rain on lens ensure your lenses have been cleaned with alcohol wipes prior to shoot and then use grease free micro fibre cloth. Ensure you have many clothes as soon as get damp don’t work on lens and smear. Then use alcoholic wipes intermittently. Thanks for watching.

That was lovely. I don't go out in the rain to take photographs ... but I will do so in future, as I love woodland photography and the pictures you created. Thanks Nigel.

Won’t the alcohol wipes ruin the protective films of the lens?

Good advice about venturing out in the rain, as you know Nigel if we waited for decent weather in the Uk we'd never go out ;-) Although your advice about using a bag cover to protect your camera is good I would never use the one that is protecting the rest of my kit in the bag even if the bag is waterproof. Either carry a spare cover to use or as I do use a Skyeskin Chamois (they are massive). I drape mine over the whole camera and when I'm ready to take a shot I quickly lift the front of the chamois just above the lens element so it's out of the frame of the shot but still affords some degree of protection then take the shot. I find this method saves you having to wipe your lens in readiness for the next shot.

Nigel Danson A good big umbrella is the job. Can help prevent lens flare as well if the sun comes out. Strap one to your bag if you don’t want to carry it to a location. Best 20 quid you can spend.

Nigel your enthusiasm for your photography and for nature makes my heart sing, it really does. I am not a landscape photographer but I watch your videos and I’d do one of your workshops just to meet you. You are so much more than a photographer. I love the rain too. The saturation, contrast etc in the rain apply just as well to ICM. Thank you ☺️

Or use a gallon storage or freezer bag with a hole cut in the bottom. Get the ziplock kind. Just as good of a fit, and you already have it in your house. Doesn’t take up much space either.

excellent, I think when people start photography they feel they need bright blue skies and sunshine, but as we progress in our photographic journey we realise going out on days like this are much more productive, deep saturated colours, ive had an amazing time in our forests this autumn in Dumfries and Galloway.
