Good stuff bro. I like all animals, but there's definitely something special about reptiles. I think their cryptic nature certainly makes them interesting. There's something about taming them and growing a mutual understanding of each other that's even better though.

Yes... the "love hate relationship with our own species" can be bridged by connecting with other humans who look into reptile eyes and see someone ancient looking back. Forming a relationship with a reptile is special because we have not bred them to be our servants... they are who they have always been which means we must expend effort to understand them. The rewards are deep and basic. Thank you for sharing and teaching.

One of the things I admire the most about you is your attitude, you're always learning and are actually willing to learn from your mistakes, you don't pretend to know everything and when you do make a mistake you own up to it, explain what you did wrong and then work to fix it so it doesn't happen again. It's something that you don't see in people very often and it's an incredibly admirable way to go through life

I love your channel because its about the animals themselves. Not morphs. I think we in the reptile community are slowly losing touch with how beautiful these animals naturally are as morphs get more and more popular. Turtles and tortoises were my first introductions to reptiles too. I remember being four years old and the family dog brought a baby turtle home from a nearby pond. She didn't hurt it, just carried it home. I begged my mom to let me keep it. She said no and stood firm on that and we took the little guy back to the pond. We also used to see tortoises crossing the road on a fairly regular basis and it was always so exciting to me. I've always had mammals as pets (and still do) but a turtle remained my dream pet well into my twenties, when I finally got my sweet and funny boy Hector. Twelve years later, I now have a blue tongue skink (one of my best friends ever) as well, and am considering adding another lizard or maybe a snake to my family. I think chelonians will always have that special place in my heart though.

Reptiles look so ancient and unchanging. They seem like a bridge to deep time. Also their slow metabolism gives a sense of calmness and non-urgency that takes away our daily stresses. They can be extremely intelligent, provided that they have an enriched environment and an attentive keeper. Reptiles are awesome and this cannot be debated.

We both have the exact same start in reptiles! I grew up in Levittown NY and saw turtles at the local pet shop when I was 9 and was in awe, my mom got me a red eared slider and I was hooked. Eventually I got into breeding ball pythons, leopards geckos, and Bearded dragons, and kept all sorts of others. Nowadays I’ve moved to a Orlando FL and I’ve got a baby Sumatran water monitor I’m raising among a bunch of other cool animals. I would love to visit Kamp Kenan one day and learn more! I have been always fascinated with reptiles in particular lizards, never been overly interested with snakes but I'm starting to come round to them now. Reptiles are extremely smart and curious animals and they're behaviour is so different from dogs which are the only pet my parents allow in the house. I hope that one day when I've moved out and are standing on my own two feet so to speak. I'll then finally get the opportunity to care for and raise some wonderful reptiles responsibly, until then please keep making videos Kenan as it sort of let's me experience that dream through the window of the internet, from a hop and skip across the old Atlantic pond.

I found your channel because someone abandoned a huge Sulcata at my driveway 7 years ago. I am or was deathly afraid of reptiles and didn't know what to do with it. I tried for weeks to find its owner to no avail and even begged game and fish to take it and put it back in the wild LOL! The day we found her I put her in the bathtub cause I had no idea what to do with her. But after realizing no one would ever claim her and not being a person to ever take an animal to a shelter I decided I'd give her a home. We researched everything we could and made her a nice habitat and watering hole thanks to your channel. The first video I found of yours was the building of the galops watering hole and I modeled hers in a smaller way after the one you made. Ever since that video I have been hooked on your channel and giving my girl Emma the best life I can for her. I am still scared of lizards and snakes but I think buttercup is beautiful and I scream a little less when I see geckos. :) Thank you, Kamp Kenan. I never comment but I got you on Patreon and been watching for years.

I must admit, listening to you speak as I draw, I'm reminded of a quote from John Hammond's Memoirs, of Jurassic Park: "When I was little I dreamed of a time when the entire world was covered by an ancient forest. Great hunters stalked in the cool darkness, among silent, huge columnar trees...oaks and sequoias." Tbh it was jurassic Park that got me, that and godzilla. But a childhood combination of those, and Steve Irwin on animal planet fostered my lifelong fascination with animal ecology, prehistory, evolution, and everything about the natural world. I remember being 6 and telling my parents in the 90's that I wanted to be a marine biologist paleontologist when I grew up. Nowadays I adore all animals, from cats to fish to birds to reptiles, but reptiles specifically always hold a special place in my heart, and I've loved seeing more people come around to see these as animals, and not the cold creepy villains of B movies and superstition.
