The first vehicle I sold a a salesperson was a 2001 new edge mustang gt. I was new to sales and on the test drive I fell in love with the vehicle more than the young lady who purchased the car. The fastback is my favorite style of mustang and the new edge brought back all memories of growing up on Detroit seeing the new mustangs yearly. I was an excellent salesperson and within a year I became the number one salesperson at my dealership, got promoted to used car manager,and the dealership was of the top dealerships in sales in Northern California. Sonic Blue was the new test color for FORD and due to the success in sales we as a dealership we received a new NEW EDGE MUSTANG in SONIC BLUE and I purchased it before it was even taken from the delivery truck, lol. Had Cobra wheels installed before taking delivery and all was well. The New Edge is the epitome of mustangs for me and I just recently purchased a 40th Anniversary Ed. GT Premium Convertible in black and hope to always keep one in my small fleet of vehicles that I have amassed. Other than the 67 Fastback, the New Edge is "IT".

My mom has a 99’ anniversary edition GT in White with dark charcoal interior. She bought it new, and it still has only 31,000 miles on the clock. She babies it. She had my brother install an MSD gauge cluster, along with a Flowmaster cat back exhaust, Torq Thrusts, a mild lowering kit, and a Hurst shifter. I think it’s cool to have a mom that’s 69 years old but is still a hot rodder. I really like the channel, thanks for the video.

Great story! I fell in love with the Mustang in 1964, I was 4 and we lived in Detroit and my dad was a Ford executive and he brought home a brand new 1965 Mustang coupe in baby blue. 289 c-code auto. It was beautiful! No one had seen a car like this before. I new from that moment on I would drive only Mustangs! I got my first Mustang at 17, a 1967 GT fastback 390 hipo 4-speed black on black for $1000.00 dollars. It was a lot of money to a 17 year old back then. Min wage was $2.10 hour back then. I had 1/2 the money and my mom loaned me the rest to buy her. I worked as many hours as I could at pup and taco to pay her back. Now 42 years later I still drive Mustangs I have a 03 azure blue Mach1 and just love it! I took her out this morning for a hot lap! I have always had a Mustang since 1977 and will till I die. There's nothing like driving a Mustang! Great video! Thanks Justin👍👍

ZACHARY THE_MECHANIC .I sold the 67 GT, to buy a 68&1/2 GT fastback 428CJ 4 speed car white with black int. I had that car till 2003 when a Mustang collector offered me big$$ for it and I sold her . went down to Ford and paid cash for my 03 Mach1. I also had 1982, 83 and 85 5.0 GT Mustangs. Over the years. The collector also bought my 85 GT . also had a 1969 Ranchero 390 hipo auto. Sold that to. All were great car's.

Seeing that mineral grey v6 takes me back to my first car! It was a 2001 mustang GT 5 speed and it was mineral grey. I loved the car so much I bought it without even knowing how to drive manual. Fast forward 3 years I’ve owned a 2007 mustang GT and a 1998 mustang GT also a 2003 mustang GT which I currently own and has a procharger. One thing I’ve learned about having SN95s, S197s and new edges is that no matter what people will always look as I passed by. I love all mustangs but New Edges will forever have my heart as you showed me that there isn’t just a v6, GT or cobra but secret Easter eggs like Saleens, Bullitts, Roushs, Cobra Rs Mach 1s.

New sub. I feel the same way. I got the exact 2000 laser red gt fully loaded in 2004. It was a 60 some year old guy who traded it in on a new Acura. 13k miles never driven in rain looked brand new all over all the tags still mint underneath for $13,000. Still have the car with 32k miles. Really tore up the streets and track with it. Put 3:73s shortys offroadx mac cat back upper intake throttle body cold air steeda pulleys same shifter combo as you guys pro 5.0 with steeda handle. Went 13.4 at 103 launching at idle on street tires. Beat trans am, camaros, and lots of fox bodys on the street. Cars that would go 12s at the track. I will own a termi cobra. I missed the low price point tho unfortunately. Looking forward to more videos ive watched quite a few.

I feel the same way. I was just coming into driving age when the newedge came out. My parents bought a new 2001 premium V6 convertible in mineral gray - I loved that car and eventually bought it from them later on when I was in my 20s. I only kept it a few years but it lit the fire for me and I've owned 5 more since. This year I found a 2001 Cobra convertible in the same color in amazing shape, so I had to buy it. It was my old car, but with everything I wish it had back then (V8, manual trans etc) and obviously much more. I would have loved getting a terminator but this thing reminded me so much of my first Mustang that I had to get it. I'm going to keep it forever! Keep up the great newedge videos.

Having own an 03 GT I do like the body style. The only thing that I find odd is the hood and trunk lid are both plastic. To me, a true classic car should have all metal body parts. But that's just me. No car is perfect but it's just bits Ford is experimenting with back then to save on weight. Benefit to plastic is that it will never rust

In 1970 the sticker price for a Mach 1 was $3,270. base. In 73 I picked up a 72 351 V8, 4 speed Dealer Demo for $2,250. Today due to US gov debt-currency devaluation you get to pay 10-11 times those prices! Might add that in 1970 I bought a 1966 GTO 389 V-8 tripower, 26k miles, nice car $1,200. I put a new set of 4 General Tiger Paw tires on it mounted-balanced for.... ready..... $44. $11 each! Kids, my first house I had built on a lake, 2bdrm, bilevel 3 car garage, 1350sqft, $32,000. what a Mustang costs today! Awesome remembering that stuff! Namaste PS, I detest the 2015 forward Stangs. Next car is the mid engine Corvette.

I understand this very well. I’ve studied economics and the devaluation of currency a lot lately. My friend bought a 69 mach 1 for $250 back in the 80’s. You could not loose at that price and now even a 69 fastback she’ll goes for $10k minimum.

Great vid Justin!! It's really kinda sad how the new Edges and sn95s are slammed and looked down on in 2019. I was 27 when the new edge came out. I was new to my career, newly married, 1 kid and another would be coming. I had always been a car guy but all that was on hold. They were tough financial times for me and a mustang or any other muscle car was last on the priority list. When I was just out of high school the foxes were ultra popular and we're easily causing fits for the old school muscle car guys my self included. They were light and quick and the updated 302 with stump pulling torque could not be denied. I watched many lx 5.0s spank some highly respected old school street warriors from the 60s and 70s. I had mopars when I was younger but always liked Ford as well ,most of my uncle's and dad were Mopar and one uncle was all Ford. My Dad had some Ford's as well like a 66 vert Stang with a 260 when I was around 5 and in about 1982 when I went with my dad to buy a killer 72 black ranchero 500 with a 351 Cleveland 4 speed complete with Hurst shifter, keystone classic wheels and a sun super tach mounted on the steering column. My dad's friend installed a pioneer cassette deck, amp and phase 3 door speakers and that stereo cranked. The sound of the 4 speed and that engine combo left a lasting impression I get this same feel when I drive my current Bullitt. My Dad also had a 70 AAR Cuda 340 six pack which was an amazing car, my other uncle had and still has a 70 Hemi Cuda, cousin had a 70 boss 302, uncle had a 69 ranchero with a 428 Cobra jet 4 speed, these are just a small few examples of cars I grew up with. In 89 my other cousin bought a new lx 5.0 5 speed and I loved the car. When I was 19 I was driving a truck for a contractor and the bosses wife bought a brand new red 94 vert v6 Stang and I was blown away by the new design, it was decades ahead of the fox at least it seemed so at that time. I used to gas it up and take it to the wash for her and I remember how classy and high end the car was at the time, everybody would stop and look at the car. The sn95 was very innovative at the time, cool looking and reminiscent of the older stangs which was cool to see and people went nuts over them. One problem is at that time I had a 92 Dodge Dakota sport standard cab 3.9 liter 5 speed with just exhaust and an air cleaner and I could spank the new GT and when the 96 came out it got worse. But the funny thing is even being pigs they sold like hotcakes because of the looks, people had to have them. When the new edge came out I remember how bad ass they looked and I remember thinking the the new edge styling seemed to go backwards in technology as if the sn95 should have come after in terms of moving into a more modern design, of course we had no clue that the 05 would take the retro theme to the max. The new edge was tougher and more retro and I remember thinking the front end was ok but the rear with the tailights we're so amazing and retro looking. The other major plus was that the pi engine with a major boost in hp was now capable of pulling the Stang through the 1/4 in low 14s which was an amazing bonus on top of the styling changes. I remember hearing the 4.6 and thinking man do those sound good and then in 01 working on a job site and seeing a new green Bullitt in the lot and having no idea what it was but knowing it was something special and the best looking new edge I had seen! Then in 03 the Mach 1!!! Forget about it and if that wasn't enough Ford came out with the 03 Cobra that ran 12s right out of the factory!!!!😲😲😲😲 If you weren't around in the 80s then it's hard to understand just how hard it was to get an older car to run 12s and Ford just slapped us in the face with it like it was no big thing. I had to have a Stang, I used to be driving in our minivan and roll the windows down and turn the radio down to hear the 4.6 roar off off a stoplight that might be around me in traffic. I would pretend I was shifting through the gears while making v8 sounds in the minivan while my wife would look on strangely at me shaking her head, and she would say someday honey you will get your car again... It would be in 05 that I would buy a daily 99 gt laser red auto with 27 k on it, that's what made me a new edge Stang guy for life, I drove it to around 100k and for financial reasons I would have to let it go. It wouldn't be till 14 I started to purchase and sell one Stang at a time to get back in the hobby while making some coin, then in 16 finding the 01 True Blue Bullitt on a lead from my dad with intent to sell again, that never happened. I still have my Bullitt and plan to keep it forever and my two boys also have GT's so it has truly come full circle. I feel very Blessed to have the car and think back on the times when I longed to have a Stang but couldn't, makes me appreciate it that much more. Thanks for the great vids that bring on all these memories 👍👍

I had a '66 Fastback GT, a '92 LX 5.0, a '71 LT-1 Sting Ray, a AAR 'Cuda, a Trans Am with the 195 hp "high output" 305 in it, and so on. I really don't miss any of them. I had a Porsche 924S, too. That was the 944 drivetrain in the lighter 924 body shell. I used to miss that. Then, when looking for a replacement for the Porsche, which I demolished by spinning it into a road racing track wall, I came across a '99 New Edge...... If someone would have asked me in 1992 what my ideal car would be, it would have been to somehow combine everything I liked about that Porsche and that 5.0 into one car. As a Muscle Car, the split-port 3.8 powered New Edge might suck, but as a sport car, I don't think they suck at all. When an uninsured motorist destroyed my 99 New Edge while commuting home from work in it, there was no doubt in my mind as to what I would be replacing it with: another New Edge Mustang.

Grieg Jackson, of Barrett-Jackson, says keep your eyes on the Fox-bodied Mustangs, and SN95 and new edge's, especially the Cobra's, Jackson himself a Mustang effectionado and collector, said these Mustangs will take off very soon, a 2000 Cobra R, recently sold for $60,000.00 @ Branson Auctions, I own 2 Terminators and 1 new edge GT (Daily Driver), I try to keep the miles down on the Termi's, I agree with your assessment of the overall size and new edge's looks and styling was the best, "Pocket Rockets" as some refer to them, can't go wrong......

I love my 02. Definitely not my first car, nor the quickest, or even the best handling. But I can still blast down two-lane back roads in it fast enough to get copped for a speeding ticket anywhere in North America. It's a practical daily driver that is fun to drive. It feels light and nimble. It gets reasonable fuel economy. I think it makes for a fantastic road-trip car. My '99 New Edge "treated me well," too. It was rock-solid reliable, as quick as it ever was even with 237,000 miles on it, and even with that mileage, it would still go 27 miles on a gallon of fuel at 2800 rpm in top gear. When it was destroyed by an uninsured driver, I knew I wanted another New Edge and came across my 2002 with only 97,000 on it. As I said at the outset, I love it. I plan to keep it until I am too old to drive it.

I’m 100% in agreement on the 05-09 GT’s they are alright but just don’t do it for me like the New Edge. Fingers crossed I’m picking up a 2004 Azure Blue Mach 1 tonight! I did lots of comparing and just never got as excited when I was looking at the 05-09 GT’s versus the New Edge but that probably makes sense I graduated High School in 2000 the first new car I tried to buy was a 2001 Mustang then I learned about credit and wasn’t approved lol.

I love the New Edge Mustangs, too. First off, there's the look of them. It's what the SN-95 should have been from the beginning. Styling-wise, the New Edge is my favorite of all the various series of Mustang. People like to complain about the "cheap hard plastic interior" but I'm not one of them. My '99's interior still looked great after 20 years and 237,000 miles. What I really love, though, is the mix of technology in the New Edge. It's reasonably "high tech" where I want it to be, with four-wheel disc brakes, for example. But it's low tech where I want it to be, with a live rear drive axle, good old fashioned cam-in-block pushrod overhead valves in the V6. And I even love the split-port V6. It's my all-time favorite Ford engine. As a sport car engine, it makes very good power for its weight, with a flat torque curve. My 99 V6 wasn't THAT much slower in a straight line than my '92 LX 5.0 was, certainly not enough for me to care about, It was a MUCH better, faster car in the corners. A couple of weeks ago, an uninsured drive killed my beloved '99. I got lucky and found a 2002 V6 in nearly pristine condition inside and out with only 97,000 miles on it. I love it. Hopefully, at my age, it will be the last car I ever have to buy. Whether it is or isn't, I'm not getting rid of it. If Ford would have offered these V6 powered New Edge cars with dual exhaust and a limited slip differential with a little lower final drive ratio, like 3.55 or 3.75:1, it would have been perfect in my view. I had a '66 fastback GT. I had a '92 LX 5.0. I don't miss them. I don't have any interest in owning any Mustang from 2005 up, either. They just don't do for me what New Edge Mustangs do.

I added true dual exhaust to my 97 V6 that came off an 02 GT. It was awesome. My brother had the same thing on his and he had a Ford racing 8.8 axle with 373’s so his was pretty close to what you are saying.

DHG is such a great color - back in late-07 when I ordered my new Mustang I went back-and-forth many times over which color I wanted to go with - Grabber Orange, Windveil Blue, or go the Bullit route to get DHG. Powder forged. Not reliably safe over 600
@FoDaddy
@FoDaddy 5 жыл бұрын
@@justin.c_svt 650 whp is considered the *safe* limit. That equals to around 730-750 HP at the crank depending on what driveline loss factor you go with. Most Gen 2's will be reliable at 700 whp. it's not until you get into the 750+ whp range when the viability of the stock bottom end really becomes questionable. It's recommended that for any forced induction on any coyote that the stock oil pump gears get replaced, and if you go beyond 650 whp, you're going to want to upgrade the half-shafts as well.
@justin.c_svt
@justin.c_svt 5 жыл бұрын
So like I said, the terminator was built to handle 800-1k hp and the coyote isn’t. I know all about the coyotes and oil pump gears. If you have to take the timing cover off and replace the gears at a minimum, it’s not that simple of a task and saying they can take 800hp with no issue is incorrect. And saying that they have forged internals is incorrect. If you have to open up the engine and modify it, it’s not considered stock reliable
@FoDaddy
@FoDaddy 5 жыл бұрын
@@justin.c_svt You're also comparing a run of the mill GT to the top mainstream New Edge. Not an apples to apples comparison. GT-500 to Cobra would be a better comparison. The oil pump gears replacement is recommended but it's not strictly necessary. There are plenty of 700+ RWHP Coyotes running around with the stock oil pump gears. I personally know two people with supercharged Coyotes that have 700+ HP at the crank and still have the stock oil pump gears. One of whom has 2014 GT (Gen 1) , the car was supercharged in 2015, and has had no reliability problems, the bottom end is stock. The other guy has a 2015 GT which has been supercharged since I want to say 2017, again no problem. If you check out car shows, forums, clubs,etc. Coyotes can handle more power than you think they can. The Gen 2 rods are sinter forged per Ford performanceparts.ford.com/download/pdfs/Gen_2_Coyote_Technical_Reference_2-16.pdf Now you can say that it's just semantics; Are they as strong as the Terminator's Manley rods? No. but they are the same rods Ford used in the Boss 302 and are noticeably stronger than the Gen 1 rods and are technically forged.
@justin.c_svt
@justin.c_svt 5 жыл бұрын
@@FoDaddy I am not here to have a terminator vs coyote debate. lets go back and read your original comment. "They can take 800+ HP without issue." This is false. I follow one of the biggest coyote guys out there- Alejandro Flores. He is extremely knowledgeable and He recommends pulling out the engine and selling it before you break it, buying a F150 5.0 and building it. As for the GT 500, My brother danny johnson did a remarkable video about how the 13-14 GT500 "powder forged" rods are already at their limit. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3OamWyJlNaUaas I already stated I like the new mustangs, but I don't want to buy one. They do put up with a lot, but its on borrowed time. Some will get away from it, but some dont drive their cars hard either. Agan, Alejandro himself says its not safe. Also this is why Roush TVS cars are detuned with the blower to handle a "safe" limit of power. 600 is very good though on a stock engine.

The 15+ coyote will handle a lot more than 600hp... it's pretty much up there with the terminator motor from the factory as far as bottom end. The new edge did have the best seating and cockpit of all recent mustangs IMO... I am not a fan with how much bigger my '13 is than a new edge (my coupe 13 is also about 350 lbs more than my vert 04), and having rented a vert 2015 at one point was disappointed to find out it's even bigger... and I imagine the 18+ is yet even bigger... Ford needs to go back and study the Fox body and aim to make another one in that size... because we know by the time it gets done, it'll be the size and weight of the new edge... and with the newer coyote and 10 speed, it would be epic. Another thing I liked about the simplicity of the new edge (and any 79-04 really) was how easy it was to get grip on it... you want more traction? you put bigger tires... and then if you want you can do control arms and shocks and springs, but the results are predictable each time. The 13 on the other hand... pinion angle, adjustable panhard rod, all of the adjustable shocks and crap in the world and I still can't get it to hook... granted it's got a blower and a 3700 rpm converter in it... but still, it should hook somewhat...

I think ford knows that their target market wants a larger car that most (overweight Americans) can fit in comfortably. The new mustangs are aimed at the middle age man who can afford it and wants a comfortable car. The 79-04 was a generation that probably won’t be seen again.
