I have a new favorite fruit that grows well in zone 6 to 10. The JuJube also called the Chinese date is crunchy, sweet, and easy to grow.
Here's where I purchased my Jujube trees from: bobwellsnurser...

I planted a Li jujube tree today! Trying to start a backyard orchard. I also planted a grafted asian pear tree and a Sam Houston peach tree. Wish me luck. I did not add any amendments to the soil as this is what many you tubers and Dave Wilson Nurseries advised. That is a new approach for me...hope it works. Hope your fruit trees are doing well.

Thanks Pete for introducing us to the Jujube fruit. I heard the crunch sound as you bit into the fruit... like biting into an apple!! Have a great day.

Chinese jujube date! We’ve been trying to sprout them from seeds for some time. No luck so far. Might swing by to get some cuttings 😂
@petebeasttexashomesteading

I read that you have to crack the shell of the seed open much like a peach pit and plant the seed inside in the ground and it should sprout within a few days.

They grow best in a dry area with sandy soil. Not for San Antonio unfortunately.

Vietnamese call it Chinese Apple. I think the Chinese do call them red dates. If you let them dehydrate long enough, will it turn to the dry red dates you get at Asian market? I want to try planting them; if you remember, may I ask where did you get the trees? Thank you Pete for the great videos.

What kind and how often do you fertilize and water this tree? Thanks for another great video!
@petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading 4 жыл бұрын
I just use an organic fruit tree fertilizer and fertilize in late winter when it's dormant and again in late spring when it's starts fruiting.

I live in Central Texas and I want to plant couple of fruit trees. Did you plant directly to the ground?
@petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading 4 жыл бұрын
Yes but dig a much larger hole and amend the soil with 50/50 mix of compost and the soil you removed. Then fertilize with an organic fertilizer.

Hello Pete, I’ve he same tree. The tree is 6 yrs old, the problem is the roots are making little trees growing all over the yard. That’s driving me crazy, I can’t get rid of them. Please help if you have a solution. Thank you.

Taiwanese giant jujube the size as big as apple, crispier than apple and sweeter than apple too. It's called 台湾牛奶大青枣. If you search these Chinese words, you'll see. I'm looking for some of this variety.

This is the most invasive fruit bush I have ever encountered. The thorns are terrible and the fruit is temperamental. Brush Master to kill this bush is the only good way to deal with it..
