Thank you for addressing not pranking people who don't like pranks or strangers. The Internet has made bad pranksters go wild. Too many pranks are just meanness. I don't enjoy pranks. @@glenngriffon8032 Generally, that's true. Some of us just don't like being personally involved in pranking AT ALL. Adrenaline hits aren't fun for me. I've had far, far more that were from negative sources than fun ones. Same with surprises. I abhor embarrassment as the association with mean spiritedness is too strong. You just need to know the person, and know they enjoy it before doing anything. I can enjoy watching Paul & Matthew because it is good natured and made abundantly clear that Paul enjoys it.

My parents pranked me constantly, especially when I was a child. I recall going to eat my lunch in school and cracking open my hard boiled eggs (I always cracked them by smashing them together...weird, I know) only to discover they were raw. When my mom came to pick me up later in the day and saw the egg mess down the front of my dress, she laughed and laughed and pointed at me in front of all the other kids. She was supposed to bring me a change of clothes after lunch but never came. After I went to bed that night, I heard my mom and dad laughing about it. On my 16th birthday, they told me we were going to dinner. I waited and waited in my room only to discover they had left the house. Yes, "we" went to dinner, but "we" was just them. Happy Birthday to me, as usual. No presents. This was a cruel and constant daily occurrence. When I was very young I was even afraid to go home. DO NOT PRANK PEOPLE FOR ANY REASON UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR CERTAIN THEY WILL NOT BE HURT BY IT. In my 65 years, I have never pranked anybody and never will. I am happy your pranks are harmless and Paul can laugh heartedly about them.

I appreciate the direct discussion of consent in the "prank rules," and Paul's discussion of how the pranks helped him feel like his disability added a positive in the relationship was really cool. I'm multiply disabled, and I don't think I've ever had an experience like that. I feel fortunate that disability has been mostly neutral in my adult relationships, but that would be something.

I brought out a silver ball and he said he saw it as a giant snowball. After that I made sure to bring out other footballs with better patterns on them.

Totally agree with Matthew that pranks should be fun for both parties and light hearted. I have a friend who’s blind and he has been dumped in the middle of a very busy street without his cane and guide dog. By his own brother no less. All in the guise of a “prank.” My friend got severely hurt by falling because he couldn’t tell where he was and split his head open. He was dumped three cities away. The police found him and drove him to the hospital and to his home. And yes his brother was arrested. He even went to prison for it. In my country, endangering the life of a disabled person can lead up to 5 years prison time. My friend and his brother don’t talk anymore since that “prank” which is like 8 years ago. His brother was always very cruel to him since he went blind sadly.

As someone who was tricked (i.e., bullied) a lot by many different people as a child, I like hearing Matthew's clear rules about what defines a "prank". Sounds like those weren't pranks. I once was "pranked" several different times over many weeks at a professional office. Someone would come and change the letters around in my flexible desk name plate. I was more focused on work and would go long times without noticing it. Office mates would often point it out to me. The perpetrator never made themselves known; there was never an opportunity to laugh together about it. I asked the office manager to talk with whomever it was to ask for it to stop, but that wasn't a permanent solution. Finally someone else with ordering authority bought me an engraved name plate, like most of office staff had.
