Definitely. I own a '74 Rickenbaker 4001 jetglo. I've loved it for almost 30 years now.

The newer Rickenbackers are not as fragile and they fixed some of the flaws while still keeping the character.

it's so refreshing seeing people be honest about something modern instead of being in a nostalgia drunk stupor. 98% of the internet goes into a frenzy if you even merely suggest anything released today may be equal, if not better, than something from the past. "Cars these days are all garbage! The Model T was the LAST good car! Wahh wahh wahhh"

Gregor is great. Funny. Informative. Gets great players to do the demos. And.....funny! An excellent combination for a KZbin channel. I would add that an additional, and perhaps most important, consideration when buying vintage basses is their re-sale value. If you are pretty assured that you won't lose money, it's always worth the risk and the glory of discovery.

I've got a Rickenbacker 4003 and it's bulletproof. Love the double truss rod design. As long as you're competent in setting it up it's no problems. Makes the neck strong imo.

I had the luck to play a friend's early 6T's Epiphone Rivoli once, and it felt like walking thru a space/time vortex in some way. Rather bulky on the first contact but the neck itself decided what I should play and it felt light. Your EB 2 looks amazing.

Love your vintage basses! I have 3 at the moment, all of which I adore. My 2005 Gibson SG was my first bass and paid $150 for it 15 years ago. And it is near perfect. I also have a 1984 MIJ Squier Jazz bass that is an absolute joy to play and is in amazing condition as well. My go-to gigging bass is my 1991 Fender Prodigy hot rod bass. I call it a hot rod because I gutted the electronics and replaced the active setup with a proper P/J bass setup, installed a Babicz bridge and repaired the damage done by previous owners. Gave it a full setup and it is probably now my favorite bass to just play. Thank you so much for sharing your beauties!!

I think it depends on the condition, my main bass is over 30 years old and I still take it to shows and record with it. I've owned basses from the early 70's and had no issues taking them to shows etc

Beautiful Bass Guitars. I have not played in 50 years and am tempted to return to my youth with a semi-solid this time. Last time I plucked some strings was with a great guy who recorded a single with Steve Marriott which got to Number 40 in the UK charts. People say you should never go back, but I feel an amazing draw 🎸

‘83 Steinberger XL-2A and 2AUF. Great live. Never out of tune. Literally never. Fretless unlined. Use to own a 69 Pbass and a Gibson Grabber. I have to quit smoking (I mean quit buying gear. It’s hazardous in numerous ways)

The most vintage instruments I have are from the early 80s: an Aria Pro II RSB Standard, which was really cheap, but it's so fun to play! And a guitar, a Peavey T-27 Limited, which was also pretty cheap and looks and feels much more like an instrument from the 70s, like pretty much all Peavey T series guitars and basses. Also a really fun one that's pretty rare here in Germany. But are those considered vintage? For me, they are, but I don't really care.

Not sure why you wouldn’t take the Rick on tour. I’ve been gigging Rics consistently since 1980 and my main 2 Rics are both from 1972; I’ve been gigging the first of those 2 solidly for over 30 years. I’ve actually found them at least as reliable as anything else I’ve owned.

Any chance to big up my 1977 Japanese Greco P style bass (Electric Bass on the headstock) I'm gonna take it. Beautiful neck, lightweight, black with white scratchplate. Fitted with flatwould strings it's good for soul through to classic rock. Teamed up with a Fender Rumble 200, it cuts through the two Hot Rod Deluxes amd unmic's drums in bar/club gigs perfectly.

Old basses can be amazing. The only problem is... my lack of money to buy'em 'cause they are usually very expensive. It gets worse here in Brazil, i.e. there's an 1967" Gibson EB1 selling for the equivalent of US$3500 in a store here...
