I just love kayaking in the winter. Quiet, clean and beautiful. And no mosquitoes, snakes or tourists. Here are some of my trips first part of 2018

Hi Jonas. Nice video. Me and my wife are kayakking in the winter too. And its indeed very special. Downsise is that i am struggeling with the cold on my head, when rolling. Still love every minute paddling in the winter.

Thanks! When i use my tuiliq I have a hooded merino wool under layer, helps a lot. If I use a dry suit I have a neoprene, insulated balaclava. Works great. But 5-6 rolls is all I can do in the winter before it gets too cold. Normally my biggest problem is with the feet, they hare for me the hardest part to keep warm. Check my videos about winter gear and kayaking footwear and have a nice winter kayaking.

@@williamvan909 I've been there a few times. Have a B&B (House of Jade) as favorite stay. Been to Prince William Sound 2 times for kayaking, Homer, Kachemak bay and Katmai. Love Alaska and will go back there again.

I’m feeling colder just watching! I’ll stick to the virtually tropical waters of the UK.

🤣 It's not as bad as you think. I have my tuiliq and one set of merino wool base layer. The thing that is hardest to keep warm are the feet and the hands, but I have gear for that also. The benefit is the quiet, beautiful nature and the solitude. Perfect!

Great video. Are you wearing PFD under your tuiliq, or not at all?
@JonasAlexanderson6 жыл бұрын
Telinen Thanks. I use a pdf under the tuiliq about half the time. Right or wrong? Probably wrong but I sometimes choose not to to as the tuiliq catches a lot of air inside.

Hello. What is the size of your gearlab paddle? Thank you.
@JonasAlexanderson5 жыл бұрын
Evgeny Tregubov Hi! I’m not very tall, 170 cm, and the length of the paddle should be about 210 cm. But as I have narrow kayaks and feel I’m more agile with a shorter paddle I use a 205 cm paddle. Check Gearlab’s homepage and in their FAQ www.gearlabpaddles.com/faq.php?cID=2&Key=6#test1 , they got a table there that is useful. If you are between two sizes chose the shorter one, that is my recommendation. Another great place is this KZbin video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4fQYWx-Yr-Cg9k

Hei Jonas, har du vesten under tuiliqen? Hvilen vest har du der i så fall?
@JonasAlexanderson3 жыл бұрын

Do you have a paddle float or anything like that to assist?
@JonasAlexanderson Жыл бұрын
I almost never have a paddle float with me. But I have several that I use when teaching rolling.

What happens if your kayak tips and you fall in the water? It looks like you would die from hypothermia :/
@AliKhan123455 жыл бұрын
Oh... I just saw the rollover part.. Why do you do that? Doesn't it hurt?
@JonasAlexanderson5 жыл бұрын
Ali Khan I practice this a lot, almost every time I’m out (at least once a week). I am rather good at it now and if I tip over I can always roll up. In the winter I only do one or two but in the summer up to 30 on the same day. One reason I practice this is that I never have to leave the kayak if I tip over. I also practice self rescue.
