I LOVE that they're ADULTS in an OFFICE instead of being in high school. I feel like that enables the couple to experience more deep and complex feelings and situations that you can't get when shoved into a high school setting. And it also allows them to have developed more personality through their experiences prior to the story. Also I just LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS SHOW

I don't comment often, but your analysis on Cherry Magic hit all of the reasons why I love the show. Unlike some BL, where there's a clear "but im not gayy!!1! im normal!!" mentality until the character is kissed into submission or crosses a boundary, Cherry Magic was just a realistic adaptation of a couple. From the build-up to the progression of the relationship, it gave a really nice representation of what it's like discovering and exploring being queer. There wasn't even a "oh well I guess I NEVER liked women," which while can happen, tends to be portrayed in a way that villainizes women. There weren't any explicit "oh well I'm bi then," but they showed that both male leads could still have an intense romantic relationship while not rejecting their attraction to women as well. And as a bi myself, I cheered! I won't take anymore time, but loved it. Both couples had such realistic ways of building their relationships despite the fantastic premise, which is something more gay AND het romcoms need to do imo. Great job discussing it, Kictor!

You should see it play out in the manga too (maybe it will show this in the movie). Fujoshi coworker continues to view them as her head-canon couple even when everyone-including her-believes that Adachi and Kurosawa have gotten engaged to their own ladies at/around the same time. Adachi asks fujoshi coworker TO DESIGN THE INVITATIONS FOR THE WEDDING and she still doesn’t know (it was the design of the invitations after all, not including the names. That is why she didn’t know it was Adachi’s wedding to Kurosawa). It is only after she receives her own invitation that she learns that her ship is real and they are getting married. (See chapter 49 and the bonus chapter in volume 10.)

I CONCUR!!! The anime is wonderful for manga readers since it invests all of its time and quality in the right places. Anime-only probably won’t enjoy it as much since the production quality is not up to par with other shows. BUT the anime stays faithful to the manga with it’s smart pacing. If you love the anime you will absolutely love the manga and all of the additional things you will get from it that are not in the anime.❤❤❤

Kictor! There is this bl novel that has a live action adaptation and an ongoing manga adaptation called “Utsukushii Kare” (My beautiful man). It’s not as straight forward as cherry magic but it’s very realistic and beautiful, I think maybe you’ll like it!

Imo, I wouldn’t use that word to describe it (?). It’s a story that deals with the theme of two unhappy people who, even though at first have a hard time understanding each other, end up finding comfort in each other after they reach mutual comprehension and learn to communicate. I think their relationship is far from toxic, it’s just it takes them a while to understand what they feel.

If you loved it so much, I STRONGLY recommend reading the manga. It’s just as beautiful as the anime but it goes even deeper in the build-up of this relationship and…. It follows up!! It goes beyond the marriage. It tells you about their long distance, their coming out to their parents (incredible in a BL but their 4 parents are alive and in touch with them!!) , and their struggles as an LGBT+ couple while Adachi gets used to not having his powers.

omg, I am SO HAPPY someone is FINALLY talking about how fantastic this show is. I started watching since episode 1 came out, and honestly, I never thought I'd love this show as much as I did (and still do). This show was SO sweet that it hurt. I loved that the characters weren't homophobic, I loved that the characters weren't red flags, I loved how pure Kurosawa is, I love that it's about 2 grown men falling in love rather than teenagers, I LOVE HOW WHOLESOME AND INNOCENT ADACHI AND KUROSAWA ARE!!!! This show made it into my S-Tier ranked animes, I love it so much. The fact that more people haven't talked about it baffles me, it is such a good and healthy yaoi relationship that we don't see a whole lot of. KuroxAda is the most wholesome ship of the century. I can never get enough of them. Thank you for making this video and talking about the gem this show truly is. I CANNOT wait for the movie!

OMG😭😭😭 This reminds me when I first heard Cherry Magic was in 2020 during the pandemic, they made a TV series. I was so depressed at that time, but the show was really a great comfort to me. I didn't know they even made the anime version... since it's been a long time from 2020. Cherry Magic changed my life 🙏 I've never consumed so much media for something, I actually sat down and watched the drama? Like, me? Watching a drama from beginning to end and anticipating the other version? Then went on to buy the mangas? That says something This story had honestly a solid entertaining premise, hearing the summary you'd be hooked as in "Virgins in their 30s gaining mind reading abilities? Sounds dope", it's a simple romance, Adachi growing as a person and gaining more confidence in himself thanks to Kurosawa, the romance is the main point but not shoved in your face all the time The drama and anime definitely had to speedrun alot of things to make the cut but everyone should read the manga too! It made me laugh, feel giddy, kicking my feet in excitement, BAWL MY EYES OUT (vol 8 or 9 MY GOD), and then cry bc I felt so happy for them (I usually don't cry when reading wedding scenes, this one hits...) I walked in fully expecting something silly and fun and it did deliver, as well as actually be deep, talking about love, same sex marriage more seriously

I recently found out about the anime and I WAS IN LOVE with it!!!!!! To the point I'm ready to buy the manga, which will be the first ever BL i have ever bought, and it got postcards and sticky notes of them together?!?!?! And you describe the exact reasons why I love it as well, but another thing I love is their interaction together, the kiss scenes (especially when they first did it), the romantic development felt soooo real but also very adorable, especially the times when Kurosawa fight his inner desires and just try to reason himself. A character I can relate most is Fujisaki throughout the whole anime she is just like us fan-girling about KuroAda!! The whole anime to me is ADORABLE and if the movie is going to be realeased imma go and try to watch it somewhere.

In like 2005 I had this yaoi manga where one of the short stories had office guys sneaking around and hooking up in their car because they were both in the closet. There's a whole plot point where one of them gets told about a transfer, much like what happens with Cherry magic, and there's a lot of anxiety about them being separated, much like what happens with cherry magic. In the end, they commit to each other by vowing to hide their relationship for the rest of their lives.... which I guess was the peak of romance for them?? but so freaking sad cause, you know, living in the closet like that is no way to live. Look at how far we've come.

As someone who's watched the Japanese live action adaptation, the Thai live action adaptation, the anime, and plans to hopefully someday own the entire manga collection. I would say that yes, Cherry Magic is 100% worth anyone's time! It is a pillar of modern Japanese Bl/Yaoi for a good reason. There's something magical, pun intended, about Cherry Magic that has made it insanely popular and a must watch, in my opinion. Kictor, I'm so happy you watched it and enjoyed it as much as you did. 😊

Ooohh myyy goooddd!!! I thought I was insane for noticing a resemblance between Yuri!!! On ice and Cherry Magic. The rings, the gestures, the facial expressions, and sometimes even small parts of their personalities. OMG, as someone who has been collecting and reading the manga for (i think) a year or more, I was soooo excited when I heard an anime coming out. And now with this video hopefully getting MORE people to find and watch this show makes me so happy. This series is genuinely one of my favorite shows, not even BL just a general show of all time. Only found this gem of a video on my timeline after the English dub released, which is absolutely amazing btw somehow even more gay and silly and heartfelt with an LGBT VA cast! I got into Cherry Magic through the subbed anime and it introduced me to BL and got me back into watching anime when I had gotten tired of convoluted plots and pervy tropes. The story is incredible, really hit me hard which is rare for someone like me who doesn’t like romance dramas or romcoms. The voice acting in Japanese and English is top tier and I just keep thinking about how comforting this little office queer romcom is, it’s so nice! Highly recommend the manga as it’s still going now with Adachi and Kurosawa being newlyweds, Tsuge and Minato dating, and it’s all really really sweet! The Japanese live action is also pretty good, it does its own thing halfway through since it was in development while the manga was still in it’s early narrative arc. There’s also a Chinese radio drama that has been translated and put on KZbin that is a mix between the manga and Japanese live action adaptation that was very well done it’s so worth listening to!

There were so many favorite moments in the anime that came from reading Kurosawa’s thoughts. The sauna moment-hot spring in the manga-is definitely top tier for me, where “intense thoughts conduct in a hot steam environment” (meaning if the thoughts are intense enough, Adachi can hear it in a hot steam/water environment even when not touching the person). But the best that I always remember and always laugh at is 🥁🥁🥁 the date song. I was looking forward to that scene for weeks when the anime started. And I love how much more ROFL I get from the anime than I do the manga alone (which, by the way, there is a second Kurosawa song that gets heard in the manga in a volume not translated to English yet (edit: that volume has now been released in English). It’s called “Double Date,” heard by Adachi’s friend after Adachi looses his power and has been married to Kurosawa for a time now)

I just watched it😭 i also got so many Viktori flashbacks! As someone who's read sooo many cherry magic AUs over the years, this anime felt surreal, but i loved every second of it! It was so well done and all the tropes just made it that much more enjoyable to me!❤

I read the Cherry Magic manga online when I found out this anime was coming, fell so in love with I bought all of the available volumes (first time I've ever bought physical manga, I do not have room to store it haha) and screamed about it to all my friends who then also read and fell in love with it. The show was really good. The last episode was a little rushed, cause they wanted to finish it cleanly I think, so I TOTALLY recommend reading the manga if you can!!!! So many more delightful details in there to make it even better.

In the manga he actually bought more than the pjs, and when Adachi found out before the job transfer. He made him bring it out and go through it all. Asachi then proceeds to lecture him for hiding it, and tells him he can’t buy anymore without him.😂

I was so surprised how enjoyable this show was! And the kissing scenes really were too good - romantic, intimate, yet not unnecessarily oversexualized! It's amazing! The only thing I think (and I know people will disagree) was a bit to quick/rushed was the last episode and the marriage. But hey, we got our happy ending! :D Like don't get me wrong I LOVE slow burn romances, but as you said this healed my heart. And what's this about a movie?! I didn't know about this!!
