I like how this show is framed. We're getting a new couple, but I believe this is the same timeframe as the first four episodes, right? With how this is going, we should end up seeing the same semester(?) from three different viewpoints. That's kinda cool! We're also getting SOOOOO much in this show. I love it! And yeah, it's going so fast, but they still do a great job of introducing new characters and getting us invested in a very short time. Props to the writer! Loving the Dub, too! :)

Right?! Everyone is remarking on how quick the story is progressing, and yet at least I don’t feel that the pacing is off at all? I am writing mini essays about this on KZbin, MAL and elsewhere every episode, i stg 🙈 There are many great stories that are wrapped up in the space of a short movie, or a runtime as short as 20mins (like Hyperventilation). It’s a short format manga with spin-offs, this is by design! Truly props to the screenwriter & the mangaka, because I feel like I learned more about Jin in under 20mins than I did about some characters throughout multiple seasons of other shows 😂 And it doesn’t strike me as half-baked at all either? It feels quite natural, and mature, and like it’s honoring the complexity of human beings. It would be so easy to make this jack of all trades show-off guy into a total asshole, quick to anger the moment you criticize him, unable to stand people seeing past his carefully manufactured facade, spiteful simply because he can afford to be. It would be so tropey. But instead he talks up his crew, takes good-natured ribbing with grace, has a childhood best friend who knows all about the real him by his side… He is genuinely kind and cares about other people, like when he points out that Ichikawa calling his work garbage reflects badly on his friends/crew, when he offers his support to Ichikawa because he knows his grandfather has been unwell and it must be hard to handle that alone… He’s a huge green flag and a standup guy 😭 And people (and ogres) are like onions 🧅 It’s really cool the way the characters in this story are so 3-dimensional - multifaceted & complex. He is already claiming he puts on an act, hides himself, but it’s so clear that he cares about his friends & his kindness is genuine. It’s so refreshing & charming to see in anime in general and BL in particular 😭 And I love how we’re getting glimpses of Rei’s personality already as well, the same way we’d already gotten to know a lot about Ichikawa through HisaMao’s story. The foundations have been laid, expertly, in my opinion. So it makes sense that we’re seeing things from Jin’s POV now, and it doesn’t seem so dizzying or jarring!

I already feel like I know these people. some shows spend the whole season of 20 episodes barely fleshing out the main protagonist, let alone ANY secondary characters. it makes me so frustrated when you clearly see how it can be done in a few short words and scenes.
