Hello, I came back and watched this again after finishsing the game myself. I finished it just now and even got the true ending after loading saves and replaying certain sections because I missed stuff. I just had to feed Mishy! This was such a great game and I really loved the music. My favorite charcter is Hummel. I just really love Hummel. My first reason being the fact that he has a gun. And I just really enjoyed his character. I kinda want to just run off and play Celceta now. But my first stop is cold steel and then maybe some more Ys before Kuro gets announced. But Ys is a great series. I can't wait to play more.

@ES210075 жыл бұрын
The Kiseki Nut A thing I like about this game is that it gave character development to Adol. Yes. ADOL. And it's only present if you saw the previous games. Previous entries emphasized the fact that Adol was very objective in his accounts of his adventures. But right from the very start the game suddenly shows him being very adoring of Dana, saying she affected him for years even. It's like this journey in particular was emotional for him, and he recorded his memories to make sure everyone would remember her when no one else could. And let's not forget that in Ys Seven, Adol goes through the exact same thing Dana did in the second half of the game: Blamed for tragedy, lynched by the people, chosen and forced to take on impossible odds in a supposedly futile effort to save the land, with every chance to run away, and yet he doesn't give a crap and decides to stay and help. Wanna bet he thought a lot about Dana when this happened? God I love this game.

This, this and more this. It's amazing how a game can give characterisation to a pretty much mute character, but the dynamic between Adol and Dana was always one of my favourite parts of the game.

@ES21007 Жыл бұрын
@@AliAlslaman Yup. Timeline is Origin, 1, 2, 4, 3, 5, 8, 6, 7 and then 9. 9 is significant because that was the first game after spending years never advancing past 7. My favorite thing about the game so far as a beginner is that the side characters don't just sit around doing nothing as Adol does all the work, and they actually aid you consistently throughout your adventure. At that exact moment, you could see all the hardships and sacrifices she went through and the very specific choice words she had towards adol in the end while crying and genuinely holding his chest showed that she just didn't looked at him as a "best friend" it was more than that. Nobody can convince me it was just a platonic relationship with how obvious it was she genuinely loved him coupled with that whole "I'll always look after you" thing. She proved that an anime girl doesn't needs to be overly embarrassed and have red cheeks to show genuine love. She went through alot and to finally have a man she loves and being able to smile like that is a big W for her

Amazing video. I just spent the past couple of months FINALLY playing through this game and I absolutely couldn't put it down. I had played some of the earlier Ys games but nothing in the franchise since about the year 2000, and wow. I am blown away. I couldn't believe how this game sucked me in. I also managed to get the true ending but I ended up loading my save before the final battle and working up the little I needed remaining on the reputation score so that I could just beat it again, so yeah I didn't actually play through the whole thing twice, but I would actually, another time, gladly! An absolutely brilliant story (which I don't think is actually all THAT similar to Your Name, but I do see some parallels) is only half of it. The gameplay was just perfection, it just was so smooth and easy to learn/hard to master that I just did not want to put it down. Add to that the music being incredible throughout and just the flawless way that resource collecting and upgrading was done, I honestly don't have enough great things to say about this game. It's definitely among my favorite games of all time, and it's great hearing about others' experiences with it. I will forever cherish it and I will also always remember it as my "quarantine game". It really helped me pass the time through it all without too much strain.

In Ys 8 finally all the elements were elevated and polished to impressive top notch state.

I love Ys 8 as well. Only 8 hours in and I already say it was second favorite RPG of all time. The first is Radiant Historia (which if you haven't play it yet, highly recommend it. Another obscure JRPG that need more attention). The exploration strike a incredible balance of expansive and rewarding without feeling needlessly drawn out which I have problem most open world game. The pacing of the game is great, feeling like you progressing through the story even when the characters aren't apart of the main story yet. The characters, while not deep for the most part, are likable and seeing grow as the game goes on makes you invested in everyone and care about them all (outside of the asshole). This game doesn't try to do too complicate, but it does everything it does very well, and I think that simplicity is what makes the game so magical.

I couldn't help but laugh when you brought up Eternia's demise as being lifted from Kimi No Na Wa, while I can see from where you are coming from and it was certainly a fun fact to know that Shinkai used to work with Falcom back in the day, I think they just made it the extermination of the dinosaurs but with anime girls. If you recall fifth grade history lessons, the dinosaur extermination started with a big meteor that brought upon many of the things that plagued Eternia, a meteor that raised so much dust that it created an ice age of the Ys Universe, an ice age that supposedly cold-blooded Primordials, and their evolved cousins, the Eternians, could not stomach, at least I suppose that primordials are cold-blooded and Eternians are as well, but it's never really mentioned anywhere so I am going off of speculation (look up Alvarez Hypothesis on Wikipedia). Other than that, great review.
@TheKisekiNut4 жыл бұрын
Oh no, I wasn't going off the 'Dinosaur extinction' trope. I was mentioning the parallels in terms of the events that actually occur during each of the film/game. For example, Eternia got destroyed by a meteor, the same happened in Kimi no Na Wa. Adol and Dana can see eachother through some unknown force until they finally meet up. In Kimi no Na Wa, they switch bodies, but are still seeing eachother through some unknown force until they finally meet up later on near the end of the film. The actual overarching story is very much different between the two, but the similarities between the two in these areas was always funny to me. The fact that Makoto used to work at Falcom made it even more of a coincidence, so I thought it was worth mentioning in passing.

I also hope that down the road you will make a video on Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ as it is a really divisive game, I read both praises and criticisms from all sides while also dodging spoilers so it is quite hard to have an opinion on it. I wonder if Adol can live his life normally after learning what he has learned. Wouldn't the burden of knowing that the reality he's trapped in isn't real? "Oh, look, ancient ruins! Except they aren't ancient at all. They were created right after we accidentally destroyed the world." It's like finding out you're in the Matrix except there's nothing outside of it, and no way to escape it. This can mess with a person's mind.
@revolvingworld26763 жыл бұрын
I mean the ruins are still real, the godess created the world (kind of in Ys 7 you find out 3 godesses created the world) but it didn't determine what humans did wirh it. And it seems like the recreated world is exactly the same except for removing Dana and the Tree. On one hand maybe an athiest or agnostic would have an existential crisis with this info, but most religious folk wouldn't care.
@Sheevlord3 жыл бұрын
@@revolvingworld2676 The issue is that Adol is an explorer investigating ancient mysteries. However, everything he encounters after Ys 8 won't be ancient. It would be a replica that has existed for only a short time. And this isn't even taking into account that the entire universe Adol lives in is merely Maia's dream. Ys 8 was my first Ys game, as well as my introduction to Nihon Falcom. It's now my favorite Ys game, as well as my favorite game period. I've beaten the game 5 times, and I started streaming a bit of it for a 6th playthrough before I got my Limited Edition copy of Ys 9 Eventually I'm probably going to check out the Trails/Kiseki series, since I've heard that's where Falcom's writing chops really show themselves (though in my opinion the writing in Ys 8 is really solid - could also be "this was my first Falcom game" nostalgia speaking to be fair lol). I've just held off on it since I usually don't enjoy turn based games (especially not if it's vanilla turn based, and especially especially when I'm asked to do a lot of grinding; grinding in Ys I'm fine with, but turn based grinding tends to get me to put a game away).

This game holds a special place in my heart. The story was well thought out and quite the adventure. Not only that but it visits several different areas such as island, forest, caves, even underwater. It took me back to when games were all about the adventure and exploring rather than just first person shooters and mindless hack and slash games. I am ALL about stories like these, anything that has to do with paradoxes, temporal causalities, and battles that last centuries over different species like this. I also love stories with things that are beyond our comprehension like the Great Tree, Gods, and universal phenomena like the missing procedure in Star Ocean: The Last Hope. I'm all about mystery. This game nailed it all across the board however it's a shame Monstrum Nox couldn't hold a candle to it which unfortunately is what I expected. You see this with a lot of studios where they make a game that is a turning point in it's series because it's so magnificent but it sets standards so high that they can never deliver again and the series dies out. Unfortunately I see this happening with Ys unless they can turn it around after Monstrum Nox. With all that said though, was I the only one that noticed how sexist this game was? No matter how you equip them or set them up the female characters ALWAYS have lower stats than the male characters. When you get to the end of the game this is VERY noticeable. My male characters had strength between 700 and 900, yet the female characters couldn't get any higher than 600 even when equipped with the exact same gear. Eventually the female cast becomes almost useless in combat three quarters of the way through the game. I wanted to use them but it just didn't make sense when their stats were so inferior to the males' stats. I found this very bewildering after the game spends so much time showing you how strong Dana is supposed to be, yet her stats indicate she's weaker than any of the male humans. Lots of games do this if you pay attention.

This game is so good that I don't bother to think about how long it takes to finish because I want to enjoy every second of it. That's honestly my main criteria for wether a game is worth it or not. Why it's subjective, the game should be so fun that you want to keep replaying it. If it feels like a chore and I only feels like I wanna hurry to the end, then I don't play it. Ys 7 was my entry into the Ys series and I loved it. But Ys 8 really is one level above it in every aspect. Aside maybe from the music. Though as in all Ys games, it's a banger in Ys 8 too.

Since it’s free with 9 now with ps extra, I finally tried it out. I’ve always had a problem with these sorts of games, the battle system appears fun but switching characters like that ruins immersions as you imagine what characters go through just to make that mechanic realistic within its story. It just seems silly to ruins immersions like that when that very character your switching too is standing right there. A simple switch to moving the camera to them rather then them magically teleporting to where your last character was. But difficulty was handled brilliantly. You basically decide between a dynasty warriors experience (easy, smash everything in sight, very enjoyable blood lust) Or a dark souls game (nightmare, good luck getting past this without mastering the two counter mechanics) And as far as story goes…If I ever find out Dana makes a reappearance I will buy that game no matter how shitty it is. Story was magnificent and the level of care that went into the main cast was sublime.

Jrpgs have very archetypal storylines, which is a good thing, and needed in modern culture IMO. "At the bottom of the chasm, they find (sp?), eat and drink like royalty, and realize there is nothing stopping them from leaving the island." I.e. Pinnochio rescues his father from the whale, phoenix rises from the ashes, St. George slays the dragon and gets the virgin, or the oversimplified, but more widespread understanding: "Kill God to save the world.", etc. If you face your fears, and do what you know you should do, you'll find (sp?) and get a virgin.

I find it interesting that the character model for Alison doesn't look very pregnant and even with the premature birth the baby looks pretty healthy and in a good size for a late term pregnancy so for me, this means we've been on this island for months since enough time has passed for crops to be harvested

It feels like in the last 3-4 years we've had a ton of hits from long running series that have really hit outside their weight class to refine their long running gameplay, while also hitting a wide audience. Xenoblade definitive edition is essentially the modern action JRPG streamlined, YS 8 and 9 just seem to be excellently executed action RPGs onto their own right, Dragon Quest IX is the classic JRPG executed flawlessly, Bravely Default 2 is one of the best JRPGs released, Trails of Cold Steel is seriously picking up steam, and even Shin Megami Tensei V is somehow not a stupidly niche game (not to say the previous entries weren't high quality, just not mainstream popular). It's hard to think of a time when we've had more, or easier access to such high quality games in such quantity, as well as an easy way to find them, and it's interesting to see how they stack up to newer entries on the market. I'm not sure what the future holds but I hope the sequels to all of these turn out just as well.

SPOILERS I Loved the gameplay, and even story at first, but absolutely despise the fact throughout the whole game everyone says they’re a family and they’re gonna see each other and yada yada, but then at the end nobody even visits or sees each other. As soon as they docked they went there separate ways. And on top of that everyone outside of the party members forget Dana even existed? Absolutely shit ending that ruined the whole game for me. And I only say that cuz I enjoyed the characters and there personalities just for them to stop caring about each other at the end. Like, what the fuck. It’d be different if In the sequel we would run into Sahad with his wife and daughter, see sister Nia still traveling around, Ricotta becoming a full fledged adventurer just like Thanatos and Adol. But nope.

The map was a deal breaker for me, its barely usable. The area and world map dont really compliment the mini map, where you exit and enter is confusing and waypoints are useless. The arrow is pointless, try to go in that general direction and you will inevitably get lose. If there was some kind of marker on area entrances indicating correct direction to waypoint, it would make things so much better. Ended up going in circles too often and sure If I was better at memorizing maps, prob wouldnt be such an issue but I dont want to memorize every area just to find my way.
