As a former lighting designer for manufacturing, may I say you did awesome!! Solid work, my man! Some things I would’ve done differently, but a stellar build overall. - I would have painted the inner reflector high-brilliance matte white to prevent some galvanized glare. - The links you made are end-split, which is a failure point. As beefy as you made them, likely not an issue. - A white acrylic/polycarbonate diffuser would definitely soften any hard shadows. Keep it up!!
@Nevir2028 ай бұрын
Ya, I was a little dumbstruck when I saw how he installed those links. Like you say, probably so overbuilt it'll never matter, but I'd have done... Almost anything besides that.

White wouldn't withstand the inside of a blacksmith shop but for so long, it'll all be residue colored before long

I concur with this.... white is actually a better and softer reflective surface that distributes the light more evenly and better.

Just an idea but if you discover after use of that light, that it is not producing enough light. You effectively made a giant heat sync of a light fixture and can put much more powerful led light elements into it as long as you provide thermal transfer between the element and the fixture.
@mathewmolk20898 ай бұрын
With the air gap between the reflector and body there is no thermal transfer therefore the main body is not a heat sink at all but the convection around the reflector doesn't hurt a thing.

I personally Love the way how precise you can cut with an angle grinder, and with such an ease. The lamp is gorgeous and fits right in. I think your powerfeed will overheat over time because it has no ways to go with the heat he generates. But that is a matter of opinion of course and time will tell. The rim you added made it all come together and at the same time giving it strength too. I love your man cave it is an beautiful workshop i can smell the metal from here. I wish i had the space for that, but i filled mine with woodworking tools instead.keep the videos' coming and the darkness in your video's gives it that special steampunk feeling . that i personally like.

Something you might run into, heat is the enemy of LEDs, depending on how much heat they produce, you have created a place for the heat to build up and not escape. Some holes in the top might be required to prolong the lights life. I do not know if the LED strips are as susceptible to the heat as other LED lights are. Something to think about.

If you can get the reflective powder they use for the white lines on the highway, coat the inside with an adhesive of some kind. Then coat the adhesive with the powder. It would likely make an excellent reflector. Along with s 2"-4" piece of aluminum or steel angle. To mount LED strips to, about. 200 watts of cool white and 200watts of warm white and a couple led dimmers. To set the correct color temperature, and use a capacitor at the led strip, weather using led tape strip, or individual 3-5 even 10 watt cob led's, to have 10, X 10 watt LED's in a row. Of each color temperature, with a cc cv DC driver driving them all in series parallel a server rack 12v power supply 400 watt or do used are roughly $25 a pair, a cc cv DC to DC boost converter to drive the LEDs, I doubt you will need full power from both color temperature lights , 400 watts of Led is bright! Possibly close to 3-4kw of tungsten Element bulbs. Maybe stretch a piece of thin synthetic silk or opaque plastic over the face to keep the LEDs and reflector clean! Maybe add about ,50 watts of RGB LEDS as well to tint the light any color you want! But use capacitors at the led to reduce or prevent flicker, the last thing you want is to Put in all this work. And the video having the lights fading on and off! 😮, DC lights don't really do this, they Flicker, but a small capacitor can stop this,

If you can have the same CRI between light sources, then you will have an easier time with white balance and colour grading your video. Right now it’s looking mismatched between the new and the old lights. If everything is the same, then it doesn’t matter if you’re using 3200K or 4000K lights since they can become “white” for the camera.

One word : ALUMINIUM
@jameswarner74358 ай бұрын
Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. aluminum would've been better in nearly every way. It might be more expensive if you have to purchase the metal new, but there is a lot of aluminum scrap out there in the world to use in projects like this. A guy just has to keep an eye out for it. And while I get some people are all about that iron aesthetic, I think everyone would agree that those hefty and/or complex aluminum extrusions are just plain cool.
