I am a cancer nurse from austria and I would highly recommend the Caphosol mouthwash to you. It helps preventing against mucositis (inflamed, painful tissue inside of your mouth caused by chemo) and also helps healing it faster. All of our patients use it with good results. Maybe your hospital also has it. Stay strong, you are a hero 💝

I wish I’d known about this when my husband was suffering. It was never mentioned here in England, it was all about Covid. Towards the end he couldn’t even open his mouth, it was heartbreaking. It was a terminal brain tumour by the way.

I'm sorry that he had to go through that. It does sound painful. When you are the caregiver it is hard on you just to watch, you feel helpless but it is nice for them to have someone that cares and can get them what they need.💜

When I had my transplant, I got a mouthwash which was handmade in the apothecary of the hospital. It helped - somewhat.

What also helps a lot against mucositis from chemotherapy and radiation is low-level laser therapy, 3 times a day. But this lasers are extremely expensive and not many hospitals have them. We use them on our patients with great results. Much less pain for them and a much more speedy recovery than without it. If someone has the possibility of receiving low-level-laser- therapy i highly recommend it. It also helps a lot on all sorts of wounds which are not healing well otherwise.

@@minapina73 sometimes I have a really hard time crying. It's like I try to will myself to be strong. Like I can take it. I'll hold it in for months and months, and even then I fight letting go. If I ever need to completely break down and sob like a baby, I'll watch The Notebook. Fortunately I haven't had to watch it more than once.

Crying in the shower is SO therapeutic! Also, when I was in the hospital for 3 weeks, doing a spa afternoon gave me a distraction when I was bored and made me feel good. I’d do my nails, put lotion on, and do a mask. It would take up a decent amount of time and made me feel so much better!! Love to you, I’m going to do a clinical trial where I’ll be in the hospital for a few weeks straight again in a month! Would you also consider video chatting with a few of us and making a video out of that?!

Romee, I am 60 years old. Diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer 3 years ago. Had chemo, radiation, surgery. I now go every 6 months for a checkup and for lab test, the one that the numbers determine if C is coming back. I just wait for the doctor to say yes, it's back. Basically I wish I had just 10% of the mental strength you have and you wonderful attitude through all of this, and at your young, young age. Thank you for your videos. You are such an inspiration. Chewing on ice during chemo helps to constrict the blood vessels in your mouth, so that they do not absorb as much chemo, thus reducing the likelihood of mouth sores.

Shower cries help me get through every day life, if anyone deserves a good shower cry, it's you! When people ask why your eyes are red you just tell them you accidentally got some shampoo in your eyes. Works every time.

I am an oncology nurse and my entire family of 6 celebrated your last Chemo here in the US. My 22 year old came home and said “ Romy, got her last Chemo.” Next thing I know he turns on “ Beat it” by Michael Jackson in his car. Blasting it through the neighborhood and screams “ Give it up for Romy”! Our neighbors thought we had lost our minds dancing in our front yard! Even our dogs joined in. I wish you could have seen it. We are so happy and proud of you!

You also can use pure volatile oils instead of alcohol for this. Especially grapefruit and lemon are well known to help against feeling nausea. You can use it on a cotton pad etc. Some of our patients put the pads with the oils in little resealble plastic containers, which makes it easy to take them with you everywhere and sniff on it when needed.

Sweet Romee I know how you feel. I just finished chemo for triple negative breast cancer and it was rough. The AC chemo I sure didn’t think I would make it through. I’ve been documenting my cancer journey as well over the past 8 months and hope to get one big video shared in hopes it will help someone out there like your videos have helped me. Sending lots of love and prayers your way sweetie. Keep me in your prayers as well because I have my double mastectomy coming up in a couple weeks in hopes to remove the cancer and I pray it’s not spread. Oh and they gave me something called magic mouthwash that helped with mouth sores from chemo side effects.

I’m an RN and worked oncology. It is so easy to get depressed when in for transplant. Spending a month coupled up in a room has got to be awful. I saw it all the time. I wasn’t a staff nurse but was a care manager, so I’d hang out when I had the time and played games, or often planned surprises for my patients. Sometimes if a patient was down for a test or something we’d decorate the room to lift spirits. Or I’d call a family member and ask them to get friends and family to plan a surprise or have everyone write letters, and then a big pile of nail would come. But I’m surprised you could leave the hospital to get a new phone. It must have been before your counts bottom out. Congratulations on your graduation. That is pretty amazing that you were able to do that while dealing with all of this. Doesn’t your family visit daily? I mean if it were one of my children wild horses couldn’t drag me away. You are amazingly strong. Your attitude is upbeat. You know what’s coming but don’t seem to let it get to you. I’m so impressed by you. Hang in there. The end game is worth it.

When I was in the hospital the best parts was planing the little "escapes". And by that I even mean going for a walk that is approved by a staff. Just planing where you are going to go, what you are going to wear, who is going to join you (if possible), all the details. You could write it all in a nice notebook, check out the Google maps of the area you are going to, etc. It was often taking more time than the actual outing. And if we are bored, that's what we want. We need something to focus on.

Do what you can to bump up your seritoin levels. Excersize when you feel good enough. Eat chocolate. Watch funny movies. Set up regular group chats with people who lift your spirits.

I remember the guy that used to collect the biohazard stuff would come in at 4am and wake my son and I up, and this after the 5 other times nurse and aide would come in. Trying to sleep in a hospital is so challenging! Romee, you are such a trooper❤ what you are going through is very difficult. I watched my son go through 9 months of chemo, then limb salvage surgery, then rehab and PT, during COVID too, you both deserve medals, better yet, health! They did stem cell transplants on our floor too, I remember those people were there for a solid month, and they were very careful about sanitization etc. 1 visitor and that person couldnt sit on the bed or use the bathroom, share food etc, it must be pretty boring, but you are in the home stretch, and you've done so beautifully beautiful girl. You are such an amazing role model for other people going through a cancer journey. Will you have a bell ringing ceremony? That's something we do here in the US when we are finished with chemo.

I love it too! I get lonely often after my only son passed away from many health problems. I was his home nurse. So, my animals (or villagers) keep my smiling and sometimes laughing.
