I deleted my goodreads account two months ago, no regrets. I decided to go offline with my book tracking and started a book journal, which Im having so much fun with! I bought a small portable color printer that I can print book covers with an adhesive backing. As I read books I create a page in my journal with a scrapbook type layout. I like having something that’s more of a long term keepsake. 💜

I love that idea and I think about trying it out, too. I heard people also love this methode because it helps with reflecting on a book for longer and not forgetting it that fast. Just one question. Where do you leave your reviews from now on? Do you use a certain app? On just Amazon?
@pokemastermaster14082 күн бұрын
I love the idea of a book journal, but I don’t think it will sit well with me because on how much books I read (and since I see people spend hours working on it (which is hard for an author to do (X.R. Balzan))), but I find the idea amazing.

I love book covers! They are what sometimes draw me to a book. May I ask, what web-site do you go to? I’ve tried to find a site that will let me print them out, but to no avail 😢 I also keep a journal. The covers would be an awesome addition!!

You hit the nail on the head of why goodreads is terrible: it’s owned by Amazon so there’s no good rea(d)son for it to be as bad as it is. I occasionally consult them as a resource because their catalogue is unmatched, but that’s about it. I use storygraph, the main failing with it I think is that it’s harder to use for people who are reading books not in English. But I will check out fable, which I downloaded but haven’t really used! I love DATA so that is always a draw for me!! Tentative 💜, I am not reliable though 🙃

I keep Goodreads for lists. That's about it. I like Bookmory for real tracking of type (audiobook, paperback, ebook) and the calendar view.

I'm on Goodreads and Storygraph right now. Goodreads because most of my friends are still there so it's totally the connections I've made over the years. Storygraph for trigger warnings. I will still check out Fable though. I just downloaded it. Also new to your channel but I do love me a good book club. 💜

I’d love to have you! StoryGraph is great for the trigger warnings. If fable had those, it would be truly perfect
@storieswithskye3 күн бұрын
@@bookloverlaura I'm sure StoryGraph does it better, but Fable does let people tag their reviews with trigger warnings so it semi has them, but you do have to comb through reviews and rely on people adding them themselves.

I used goodreads for years. I don't see myself forsaking it completly. I tried storygraph because I wanted to see better stats but I had too many books and didn't want to add my entrie list manually. I haven't heard of fable, but being able to import my goodreads list is interesting, I'll give it a try for sure.

You can import the GR data into Storygraph, definitely no need to do it manually. I like how clean Storygraph is so it's the one I'm using.

Based in the uk we get no adds at all just links to goodreads articles. For me taking a prafeazing a quote from The Eagle ha landed by Jack Higgins "GoodReads is like your mother-in-law : Something you have to put up with" As most review sites say you must review a book on their.

I was hoping for more of an explanation than "it's just ... bad" and "It's not cute enough." :/ Goodreads is, by far, the best when it comes to book databases and recommendations based on your various shelves. It has the most people on it and it's intigrated with the most used ereaders out there. And personally, my favorite color is brown.

@@bookloverlaura fable, storygraph (edited to correct the way I first spelled fable lol - I just find them lacking when they don't even have the books on them and Goodreads has an easy way to add a book if it's not on there to begin with.)

One of the bigger issues I have with goodreads is the rating. I don’t like that I can only rate a book a 3 or 4 or 5. I have read books that I would not rate a 5, but it doesn’t rate a 4 either. I feel like the average rating displayed on goodreads isn’t accurate.
@bookloverlaura4 күн бұрын
I can’t believe I didn’t mention this in the video!! YES totally agree!!! On Fable and I think storygraph as well, you can give quarter star ratings, which is awesome.

Hello! Author here 💜. I prefer Goodreads as an author because verified purchases aren’t needed to leave reviews. Right now Amazon is deleting author’s accounts and reviews, for who knows the reasons; and if the reviews aren’t verified. Although, I don’t like the interface as a reader because it I can’t delete works in progress if I shelve the book or DNF. I don’t like how cluttered it looks. I’ll definitely check out your recommendation. I’d love for my romantasy vampire book to be added to your book club 😊. Thank you so much for your content!

I'm not sure how Fable is, but one thing goodreads is good for and keeps me with them is their international titles or info on non English-written books. I read a fair bit of Danish books and have only ever had to add books to GR twice in the last 8 years or so.
@OnlyIfForAPage7 күн бұрын
I'm still only using GR but I'm considering switching so I enjoyed hearing about the alternatives :- ) From time to time I'm horrified about how something on GR works or looks, recently I changed my profile picture there and that function is very outdated, for instance.

I HATE cancel culture. I consider it snotty and petty. That said, I joined Story Graph this year. I liked the import feature and love the graph features. It's fun to watch my own reading trends. Otherwise, I'm not really impressed with Storygraph On your advice, I just signed up on Fable. At first blush, it looks really interesting. I hope they have an import feature. We'll see how that unfolds. I'm still hanging with Goodreads for the heavy hitting though. I read 150(ish) books a year. I like their volume.
