I think the pressure of being successful and getting a degree can be so stressful that people can forget the main purpose of learning. When the pressure is no longer there, and your focus isn’t to reach a specific end goal, and rather to learn because you have a drive to know more about the world around you, it no longer feels like a such a burden. You begin learning because you want to, and not because it’s what others told you have to do. ( idk if any of that made sense lol)

It does make a lot of sense, even a famous book "Man's search for meaning " also mentions this, that success comes as a byproduct of one's dedicated working for passion/interest . We realised this when the event is completed( like in my case when i was more enjoying the learning part my dy/dx was +ive but as the D-day came closer my focus shifted more on performance and eventually dy/dx[improvement] became 0 , i realise this mistake after the Dday) .

Well the main point of a degree, at least historically, is to get a skilled job which you otherwise wouldn’t be able to without a degree and would only be able to work at non skilled labor. You can learn without college too! College isn’t only about academic learning

I just started college a month ago... scary for sure. I ended up choosing a more affordable option for college and have been telling myself the purpose is just to get the degree and become something or someone else to make a greater impact when I'm "more of an adult." And while the degree and becoming someone new is important, I have found that there is learning to be done and enrichment to gain if I'm seeking it out outside of just getting my degree. I thought I had burned out after doing well in high school. I thought I no longer wanted to learn. But I'm growing again. I'm healing again. I'm adjusting to freedom and responsibility. I've fallen in love again with art and painting. I've been able to make more time outside. I've been able to try new things and things I've dreamed of trying since i was young. I've gained bruises and scrapes along the way, but I smile at them all. They are the signs of learning and trying something new. I'm happy I get to do this journey alongside you, Max.

Kyla may your academic journey brings you lots of self confidence, exploring new ideas and test your own mantle. When there are good, the not so good experiences follow too. Regardless we bounce between the extremes of the spectrum hence every experience will give us more impetus to forge ahead...college is also a time to let your hair down a little and look at perspectives from others' points of view...be patient, be a good listener, be compassionate, lead from your heart, volunteer and help the younger ones reach their potential. Try to meditate and visualize because by doing that you will be more in sync with your spiritual self... Body Mind and Soul has to work as ONE to achieve the tranquility, strength and tapping your core mission in this life cycle...always learn from experiences but dont dwell on the negatives because those will suppress our ability to soar above the fray. Your inner strength has yet to be tapped and you are an old soul...may you have fun and joy in exploring young adulthood. be IN the light, be OF the light and BE THE LIGHT

i was supposed to finish college in two years but i ended up transferring to a different major due to personal reasons. can’t help but feel like i’m gonna miss out on everyone and waste four more years with most of my friends already looking for jobs. the anxiety of having to socialize with people much younger than you, but i guess it’s just the way it is and it only matters as long as you do what’s right by you. sending hugs to everyone with a similar experience!

Take it slowly at first: do not take too many classes, do not join any groups, do not party too much, do not make any fast friendships. Just be an observer the first semester. My college experience (more than 40 years ago) was the most important phase of my life. You'll love it and hate it and it will change and prepare you. Good luck!
@ameliesarah9662
@ameliesarah9662 2 жыл бұрын
@@badwater I very much disagree with this. It’s important to make friends in first semester (some of these ppl you will be friends with throughout college and possibly the rest of your life) and join clubs ( im in choir), as thats another great way to get involved and meet ppl. I do agree with the “don’t party too much” though, just not the rest. If you are an observer, you will feel like an outsider and that is no fun. On the other hand, if you have friends and go to club meetings and various events, you will acclimate better and feel connected.

First of all, Max, welcome back :) Honestly, feels like meeting an old friend after a long break. Listening to your thoughts and perspectives makes my own brain think about my own points of view. It's such an interesting thing to discuss: university, new life, new people. I didn't get into university this year and up until the very end of summer I was making myself think that I was ok. All my friends went to uni/college and I was so so so happy for them. But it was just insanely hard to keep up a smile when inside I had nothing, but dissappointment in myself. I want to be a theatre director and trying to become one at 18 y.o. especially being a girl in this patriarchal industry made me doubt that I want to study at all. A little later thinking about it, I understood that yes, I do want to go to the university, but maybe, just maybe this unexpected break that I got to have is something that I actually needed. Second of all, thank you, thank you, thank you for making the little intermissions where you were driving. Felt like going on a roadtrip and discussing all of it at the same time. I don't know how to drive(idk just felt like sharing it) and simply watching these little shots made me feel like there was something more, than me just watching a video. Max, I have and I will keep writing comments under your videos just because you inspire me every time and I will forever be thankful for that. Wishing you all the luck and the best. Talk to us and tell us what you think, what you've learned and all the stuff you're comfortable sharing with. Thank you.

Hey, i also love watching the journeys of Max and it just makes me feel like we all people share our stories in different ways and be part of it at some points. So your comment also made me realize how similar but also different our situations are. I also didn't/couldn't go to university this year. I have taken the uni exam and I have gotten into an university and major that i wanted but that uni was in a different city and i couldn't keep up with living in a different city and in a dorm with 5 people so i just came back to my city (istanbul). At first it made me feel like a quitter. But then i started to teach myself that it was okay to change my mind, we don't have to stick on the decisions we made. So now, i have a free year in front of me until i'm going to go to a university in here istanbul in the same major(biology). It wasn't what i expected but here it is and it's better i should decide what to do with this year i have. I don't know exactly how it's going to be, i don't know if i'm going to love this or not, but that's what i have and i realize that life doesn't always go as we expect it to but it's also fine and maybe even better. When these sudden changes happen, we may feel like everything goes wrong and our life is messed up, but we are not alone in this journey, and we don't have to force ourselves to be someone or to do something. Just wanted to share

Max - I really respect what you have to say about figuring out your own trajectory in life, and your optimism towards new adventures. I think that's something key in staying motivated and living presently. For me, fresh perspective and optimism were equally important as physical location, it changed how I made connections and went thru personal growth in my semesters at college. In a time where we have much more agency over our lives, it's refreshing to choose education out of pure intrigue rather than for a degree. Speaking w us, you are so grounded and confident, able to articulate thoughts and perspectives that many of us face. It's beautiful to be reminded there are others out with the same struggles, questionings and dreams. Your videos are thoughtfully made and I love the continuous nature of these recent ones. Keep it going :)

Thinking about my journey I should’ve take a gap year to think clearly what I wanted, but that is life. Your “gap” year you enjoy every bit of life and moments that you now cherish. By gap year, I mean The journey that you did by learning, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. Actually, I think you are clear on what you want or want to experience. Keep going further and enjoying things. Good luck 👍

You continue to be a stand-up guy that everyone would like to meet. When I went to UPENN back in the day I was so excited just flipping through the course book seeing all these classes that just PLAIN INTERESTED me. I wasn't worried about career or job I just wanted to learn about things I liked. Too many kids are majoring in "business" or something just to get a job. Anyway - you seem to love to show us you lounging about half naked and that's fun too. You are keeping us wanting more - to find out where you will be going, and maybe I think it will not be in the United States - because you made a few comments that indicated that possibility. But I, like tens of thousands of others who really like you, will wait to see.

First view of your content but this one is fantastic. You seem to be a well grounded and stable person for your age. You also have an intelligent perspective on your learning path and should do well. I had a personal interview with a college president in my schooling experience and this was back in the day before computers! He said, “You will never learn everything or be able to remember enough, so just realize your school career is to teach you where to find and use the information you need.” I’ve never forgotten that. Also recently saw a saying that is too true: Our will is free; it’s our decisions we have to pay for. Best of luck to you!

I like how Max makes his videos, since I've found one of his videos about being in the event where you talk to others about a specific topic is been interesting to follow him along. I'm still in school, and sometimes I feel like being at at school was enjoyable even though I hate that I got tired, maybe because of weather and season changes. I still keep going, and watching other people on the internet inspires me, but the reality is always important. Online is there for us anytime we need it, but we shouldn't hold into it forever. Thanks, Max for making awesome one video; once again, you'll be into it for many peopl,e including me. I also have a goal: try entrepreneuring, understand finance, and study 'cause I want to expand my knowledge more, not 'cause I want to go high and higher and get degrees later on. For me is essential to see what is different in studying now vs. back then, as well as meet other people with similar interests or mindsets in specific things.

You're a kid with resources at your disposal and you seem to make the world your oyster... it's just so refreshing to watch you doin' your thing. Have fun. Meet challenges head on and with a "what is this teaching me?" outlook.. keep that inquisitive nature about you. Your fearlessness ... Max, you are clearly an intellectually curious person, and satisfying that curiosity is a totally LEGITIMATE reason to go to a good university. I would add that meeting a good professor, who will mentor you and help you to progress, is something you likely could not find anywhere else. (The best professors will likely put you on a good path to learning in ways that you can barely imagine unless you experience it for yourself.) A good university education will open doors for you that you would be unlikely to find in any other way. Obviously I think you have made a correct decision for yourself, and I'm sure your decision will be validated in the years ahead of you. You are WORTH making an investment in yourself!! All good wishes!! :)

College is about opening your mind to new ideas and this should continue for the rest of your life. To learn you have to open your mind to the idea that you don’t know most things. Discipline is hard to find in todays world and getting out of your comfort zone and relying on self rather than material things.

Sounds to me like you're in the perfect head-space for going to college. Take advantage of anything your college offers that interests you and you'll walk away from it feeling that you got a lot out of it. Your point about the cost is a real issue, though. The author Ray Bradbury couldn't afford to go to college (back when it was cheap), but put himself on a library schedule and did his own college at the public library--that takes discipline and it excludes the important social aspect, but I admire him for taking the time to just learn while he was young.

Study is simple, study what you are interested in and most enjoy. Treat study as picking up your favourite book, something that is familiar to you. If it's something you enjoy it will always be pleasure and not a chore, don't focus on an outcome. It will potentially disappoint but if you focus on enjoyment of something you know you will always be ahead. X

REQUIRED LEARNING: ECONOMICS (Eye Opening, Better Consumer & Investor, Know Fiscal & Monetary Policy) One Semester: MICRO-ECONOMICS + One Semester: MACRO-ECONOMICS You will NOT regret it ! You will be glad you studied it formally. I would require anyone going to college to study Economics for one year. From a non-business, science nerd. Then, if you are up for it, some Finance & Accounting. A diverse mix of courses while concentrating in one “major” area of study is a very good way to go. Best wishes on your journey of intellectual growth Max ! Then, with your French from your Mother…
