What do you miss most about Germany? How does Germany compare to Canada for living and culture?
@thomasnittel4561 Жыл бұрын
In case you are sick the employer must pay your salary only for six weeks (Lohnfortzahlung im Krankheitsfall). Afterwards the mandatory health insurance pays. If you are permanently unable to work (erwerbsunfähig) you will become early retired (Frühverrentung) and get a reduced earning capacity pension (Erwerbsminderungsrente).

@@DianaVerry The money for these social benefits must come from somewhere. Therefore the taxes and social-security contributions are higher here than in North America.

You'll get this 6 weeks fully payed sick leave multiple times a year, though, for each new sickness/injury anew.

This is probably the reason why Canada lacks workers right now, mainly in the healthcare industry. How does Germany compare? Does the healthcare sector have enough workers (nurses, orderlies, etc.) or does it rely a lot on immigration?

Do you think it's necessary to have a degree to be able to get a job in Germany? I know this depends on jobs that you apply to but im just curious as I took some classes but don't have a certificate or degree in anything
@Hundert1 Жыл бұрын
Good question. As with anything, the more educated the better. I certainly would imagine you could still get some kind of work over there. Try calling the German embassy in your country and ask them. Maybe they can help. In the meantime try learning some basic German. Almost everyone knows Gesundheit for the sneezing, Kindergarten for the kids school and kaputt for whenever something is broken. All the best👍😊

If you don't care what job you will be doing, good German language skills are more important to find a job than a degree, with some few exceptions (like IT, for instance). The biggest obstacle for getting a job in Germany, besides acknowledgement of education and certifications, is the level of German language skills. If you're a certified nurse for instance with really good German language skills, you'll find a job immediately. Without German language skills, you'll have a very hard time to find a job, and even more so outside of the of the few cities with more than 500,000 citizens.
