If people get problems or die from too much meat and dairy no one talks about their diet or questions it. The worst you will get is that they needed to stop eating in this way (as an individual) when the doctor told them to do so. If people get problems with a particularly extreme version of veganism, veganism as a whole is perceived as unhealthy. That's called a double standard.

This is so absolutely true! When I went vegan I subconciously did this too. I would get a flu and immediately blamed the veggies but when I was a meat eater, never once did I blame the meat or dairy. Anything is bad for you if you don't eat it in moderation!, yes of course eating red meat in vast quantities is bad for you, not even meat eaters would deny that, but a diet that includes a regulated amount of both meat and veg is superior to one without meat.saying nobody talks about diet when someone dies because of their diet is absolute nonsense.

I can't speak for everyone, but many people, including myself, try a variety of strict, or perhaps perceived by some as "extreme" diets in an effort to combat digestive issues or other pre-existing conditions. It's easy to say not to worry about this or that when you haven't experienced the issues yourself, and trust me I certainly wish I didnt have to be so diligent about what I eat, but unless I want to put myself on the fast track to a hospital stay, I have to do so, and its deeper than just what some might consider a "healthy well balanced diet." I do agree it can cause mental stress or even mental illness for some, dealing with physical/health conditions for years will certainly do things to many peoples psyches.

I remember after the first fortnight of getting the 6 injections my face was COVERED with the most acne I've ever had in my entire life. It's like I went from mild acne (which I'd only developed as an adult) to really severe acne overnight! It seemed to be less common knowledge that B12 could cause this "acne-like rash" back in 2014. The severe acne thankfully cleared up after a few weeks, but I noticed that I would get some more minor breakouts after the first couple of maintenance injections every 12 weeks. However, now I never notice any acne after those maintenance injections or when I eat B12-fortified foods.

I do well with cooked broccoli and cooked cauliflower, although they do cause lots of gas. I can still digest them OK though. I also do really well with fruit, especially bananas and mango. Sometimes I do better with fats than others. I think it’s really important to play around with different types of nuts or nut butters. Just celebrated my first veganversary and my tummy feels so much better. I decided to stop eating meat last year because I thought the antibiotics in meat might be causing my gut imbalances. I had been vegetarian back in the 80s when it was believed you had to eat all the 8 essential amino acids in one meal. UGH! My friends and family weren't supportive and when I cheated I got really sick. So I stopped. Anyways, thanks to you and the other vegan vloggers I follow I feel supported and informed to continue being vegan and getting healthier everyday. I'm embarrassed by how long it took me think eating dead animals is bad for me, the animals and the planet. But I'm here now and thankful for all your info.

I had been vegetarian for 16 years, and vegan for 8 with no problems when I got a massive massive gut issue after getting my 3rd gardasil vaccine. I was in constant pain from the food I was eating, and was intolerant to almost everything. I think if I hadn't so noticeably gotten it right after the vaccine, and had I not been healthy for years on a vegan diet I might have been one of these people blaming veganism. My health deteriorated a lot for a couple of years, but gradually it improved and improved and now my gut is pretty much back to normal. I ended up doing a lot of things that seem to be good for sibo just naturally like raw garlic and tons of ginger and cilantro with everything, and increasing my omega 3 intake, so I think I just got extremely lucky and solved the problem while staying vegan! 17 years vegan now with no gut issues anymore :). I feel badly for these people who suffer and don't know how to get better, but there definitely is a way to recover while staying vegan, and it's not the vegan diet to blame, which we know because so many non-vegans suffer from the same issues.

Andrew Wakefield was never discredited in his call for more research between vaccines and damaged gut biome. The propagandist who attacked Wakefield was Brain Deer, employed by the Murdoch propaganda empire who was also a GlaxoKlyneSmith board member, and hired as a mercenary by the British Medical Association(Doctor's Union) because their BMJ(Journal) openly advertises for pharmaceutical ad-revenue as do most journals. Its speculated vaccines offer no resistance, do not contribute to human Immunol baselines and are functionally useless. Historically what reduced disease was better population management in social economy, development of sanitation systems and a proper system to dispose of hazardous waste, the culling of infectious vectors such as wild animal populations, etc etc. Its also striking no one is calling out the explosion in "booster's" in childhood schedules. You'd almost think they didn't even have longevity given how many vaccines are being added to those schedules.

I’m disgusted by the amount of people who are showing no compassion or sympathy toward Bonny - not to mention how RIDICULOUSLY ableist it is for people to say that since THEY have good health, since THEY haven’t had problems from their diet, no one else would. That’s just completely and utterly untrue, as well as ridiculous - everyone’s body is different, and just because something works for you doesn’t mean that it’ll work the same for everyone else. Shame on you all for thinking that because you’ve been vegan for a few years, you have the same credentials as a medical professional and have the right to insult people who are trying to heal and become healthy again.

Absolutely brilliant! I think you may have just solved the ex-vegan mystery, Mic! For the longest time, I had been browsing through ex-vegan vids (mostly sv3rige's) trying to figure out what could actually be causing the phenomenon. There are 2 major things I noticed in the vast majority of cases: 1) The vast majority of ex-vegans seem to have eaten a raw vegan diet of some sort (very often fruitarian--Douglas Graham's 80/10/10 or Freelee's RawTill4) and 2) The most common symptoms were gut related--diarrhea, bloating, abdominal pain, etc. After reviewing Gojiman's vids, as well, I began to think that the majority of ex-vegans were experiencing some SIBO. I originally though that this must have been related to the simple sugar consumption from the enormous amounts of fruits that these people were eating, but I couldn't find a studies that provided a biologically plausible mechanism. This led me to eventually speculate that it might be caused by decreased intestinal motility from hypothyroidism. Raw diets do sometimes recommend restriction of salt and don't seem to recommend supplementation of iodine. Still, this seems like a tenuous connection. I wasn't satisfied with this at all. But here you come with a vid and study explaining fructose malabsorption! At just the right time, too! I had been watching ex-vegan vids for a few days now. The study you cite shows that humans have a limit to how much fructose we can absorb. And that fructose malabsorption is strongly linked to IBS. It's not much of a stretch to also link it to SIBO, as well. If SIBO is involved, this could definitely explain why they then start having intestinal problems with fiber and other carbs, too. And if this is really the cause, then the treatment naturally follows. They might possibly solve their gut issues by going on a low-fiber, low-carb vegan diet and then periodically challenge test with starchy or fiber-rich foods to see if they still have reactions to them. Theoretically, this might work! This puts it all together for me! (And is much better than wildly speculating about meat and/or fat deficiencies without any grounding in scientific evidence.) I'd be very interested to see some kind of collaboration between you and Gojiman on this. Maybe you could tell him about this? I'd be very interested in seeing him recommend the above diet change as a treatment and seeing what the results will be! Fantastic showing, Mic! Just brilliant!

I think Mic definitely hit the general points as to the sources of their issues with veganism. I just think any form of extremism/one type of food diets, whether meat, fruit, or even potato, causes issues in the long run. Vegans must substantiate their diets with some medical studies if they wish to be healthy and have longevity. That's why I like Mic's channel, because he substantiates his claims about what he says. People get caught up in the "natural fallacy", that is (x is good because it's natural, x is not good because its not natural.

Realistically a low carb. low fibre diet includes processed mock meats and cheeses with the occasional veggie. The nutritional value of that diet is non-comparable to the nutrients provided by eggs and fish. I just can't see how someone could follow a diet like that when veganism is already limiting your options you're now cutting out staples like grains, nuts, seeds and a lot of vegetables. What are you expecting these people to eat!?
@justcallmebookworm75436 жыл бұрын
@@oliviadavidson9235 Well, the only reason for this would be if they were having horrible gut issues (diarrhea, bloating, abdominal pain, etc.) that was potentially caused by fructose malabsorption induced SIBO. To reduce the overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine, they would likely have to temporarily limit their carbs/fiber. I've heard low-carb, vegan diets are doable. Probably would consist mainly of avocados, nuts, seeds, nut butters, mock meats and cheeses, like you said. Doesn't sound appetizing to me. I like my starches. But sounds reasonably doable temporarily. And, of course, only if they want to treat their SIBO with a vegan diet. If they don't mind becoming ex-vegans, then w/e I guess.
@oliviadavidson92356 жыл бұрын
Just Call Me Bookworm you could survive but gut issues take a long time to heal so temporary may mean a year and the low carb, low fibre vegan diet just isn’t sustainable for that long and the deficiencies they would get from this diet would just lead to more health problems and a shit tonne of supplements. I think the practitioner had to make the call to tell them to eat animal products because they sought his advice and if he put them on said low carb/fibre vegan diet the risk of them getting worse would be liable to him and Tim was already close to be hospitalised so the practitioner had to make sure he was giving the best nutritional advice he could even though it went against their moral values.

After about 2 years into being vegan, it got worse again and I've started developing intolerances to almost every food out there. The doctor diagnosed me with SIBO and gave me a course of antibiotics, and at the same time I did the low FODMAP protocol with my vegan dietician, and after the antibiotics, I've started a course of probiotics. Fast forward to today, after 2 months of low FODMAP, then gradually reintroducing the eliminated foods, 3 months of probiotics and taking care of my mental health, my gut is functioning better than it ever was in my life and I can eat everything I want again. Still vegan of course. I might have a casual response if I ate a huge amount of a very high FODMAP food, but SO DOES NEARLY EVERYONE vegan or not. I am lucky enough to have access to a vegan dietician who actually knows her stuff, but clearly, not everyone is, otherwise people wouldn't be quitting veganism and making youtube videos about it... And yes, there's definitely a trend with all those who are quitting veganism, that they've had a raw vegan 801010 or some other extremely high in fiber and fructose diet, so yes, you can do vegan wrong...

But I’ve been humbled by the fact that no veganism cannot cure everything. Animal products are necessary in order for some people to heal and have a better quality of life. One example is epileptic children, they can control their seizures by eating a ketogenic diet (vegan keto can be done but it’s incredibly restrictive, not sustainable for a child). In this case as someone training to be a nutritional therapist how could I tell a parent that their child should be living off of avocados and nuts just to control their seizures. That’s unethical in my eyes.

I think what is more important than focussing on a plant based diet is to support sustainable farming. Buy local organic and seasonal vegetables, seeds, nuts and fruits when possible. If you are a meat eater chose pastured grass feed meats, free range poultry and wild fish. Avoid factory farmed foods. Being vegetarian but purchasing your vegetables, fruits, grain and soy from huge mono crop industries that grow the same crops year after year, using enormous amounts of chemical pesticides and fertilizers will continue the damage of our soils, water, air, and climate.

@no name fool Healthy vegans have better B12 levels than average meat eaters - because meat isn't a great source of B12. B12 comes from soil bacteria and animals (especially non-ruminant) are fed with B12-supplements for this reason. Many elderly meat-eaters suffer from B12-deficiency. Iron deficiency could be an issue if you don't eat a varied diet - the main sources are from legumes, leafy greens, seeds and spices - and the advantage is that you can't get too much non-heme iron (from plants) where as it's easy to get too much heme iron (from animals). Calcium deficiency is a real risk for vegans and requires eating greens, beans, vegetables and/or seeds daily to get the 525mg we need.
@Muskar25 жыл бұрын
@no name fool Post-writing: This comment got rather long. I got triggered by "please stop making stuff up" and many of the other common claims you made - but now I feel like I should just have asked you to provide sources for your claims, and ask you to be more respectful in not assuming I'm making stuff up and actually ask me for sources too. Anyway, I'll also include my original reply, so it doesn't go to waste: I'm aware of some of these "very known [deficiency]" claims and all I've seen have linked to malnutritioned vegans - not to vegans who actually eat a healthy varied diet. Please direct me toward a study that shows otherwise, if you can. Here's a brief scientific article (with lots of studies referenced) that says otherwise (with a comment that highlights why it isn't common advice from health organizations): DOI: 10.7812/TPP/13-111 The reality is that an optimal diet is varied vegan (i.e. WFPB) but an unvaried/junk one can be quite bad - that's probably the part you've heard about. And as you know, it is relatively easy to not have deficiencies on an animal-based diets, mainly because there's so many products available and that they usually contain a variety of minerals that the animal has eaten, plus the stuff that has been supplemented into their feed, to make it even easier for humans to not get deficiency. On an animal-based dieted it is instead extremely easy to an excess of minerals and vitamins to unhealthy degrees. The main problem is that it's a lazy solution that is unhealthy in the long-term and is one of the main factors in the pandemic of the many lifestyle diseases in the Western world. If it was easier and more culturally common to get products that ensured a diet was varied, then there would be virtually no risk of deficiency (as the article above suggests). But even if you have a lazy/careless mindset to health you will benefit greatly from eating as many plants as possible - as long as it's varied. There's no controversy about that - just look at WHO's recommendations, along with American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association and American Cancer Society. Plants are harder to digest, yes - but in most cases that's actually a good thing. There's a lot of controversy about protein quality, to say the least, so I won't get too much into it. Mostly the controversy is around how to gain as much muscle as possible. But look at human breast milk, which is obviously tailored to optimal human growth - it has the lowest content of protein of any mammal - about 0.8g per 100g - it's not evidence in itself but I would certainly say it suggests something about what we need to grow. Once we're adults we need far less protein, because protein becomes for maintenance, not growth . Around 0.8g/kg body weight, daily, is sufficient according to a broad spectrum of studies. Body builders and athlete weight lifters should get 1.4g/kg to 2.2g/kg, depending on the study. And if you're building muscle, it's very important that you're getting sufficient calories. This is also possible on a plant-based diet because because more calories means more food. I'm not aware of many plant-based muscle athletes but I can mention Kendrick Farris, Alexander Dargatz and Joel Kirkilis.
@Muskar25 жыл бұрын
@no name fool I can see why you think it's a no true scotsman fallacy, but I'm clearing up a common misunderstanding that veganism is not the same as a WFPB diet. Veganism is an ethical movement that is strictly focused on exclusion of animal products (also outside diet). WFPB is a diet focused on maximizing intake of whole plants (where nothing bad has been added and nothing good has been removed) - it doesn't exclude animal products by definition but discourages them for health reasons - and also discourages a lots of vegan products. The reason they're fundamentally different is that you don't see as much of a health benefit before excluding as many processed foods as possible - and here unhealthy vegans are seemingly worse off than those who eat animal products. Or that's the claim anyway. Health is complicated and has lots of factors involved, where diet is just one of them. But I still strongly disagree that it's a no true scotsman fallacy case, rather than a clarification of labels. Speaking of "sick of". I don't get why you're being so worked up. Are you okay? You indirectly claim all studies in favor of a WFPB diet are biased and have no merit. That's a pretty bold claim given there's hundreds, probably thousands, of studies. What's your merit for stating that? I just read the en24 article about a child hospitalized (in Italy) and there's not much info to go on. It's clearly an emotional article tailored to parents and not a scientific one at any rate. It's especially worrisome that the parent allegedly doesn't believe in vaccines, which makes me think that they have very little respect for science, and thus probably haven't found the adequate knowledge on the special needs of children versus adults. There's definitely cause for concern with children on a vegan diet, unless you know what you're doing. I don't have children myself, so I'm not that much into this material but I know a few clinical dietitians who are specialized in a proper plant-based diet for children, and one of the things I remember is that children need food that has less fiber, and more calories, in it especially in the first few years where the kid is rapidly growing. "yes in a world of abundance eating in a deficient diet is a good thing" - I'm not sure what you're saying, but I would half agree. It's much easier to be healthy on a plant-based diet when there's an abundance. Animal products are more suitable as emergency foods. If you're going for long-term health anyway. I largely agree with Richard Feynman about physics being a science that is much more clear and social sciences approaching pseudoscience, but I also think he's being overly cautious and impractical. Sure it would be lovely if every scientific subject was as logical as physics, with a p-value of 0.003 or less, but when that's not possible, we have to make due with the best we can, and use other methods to check fallacies, biases and corruption. There's lots of issues in academia related to this, but that doesn't make these sciences useless. It just means that we have to be more skeptical of studies in more complex fields. Either way, there's studies that show significant health benefits with p-values of at least 0.01, that I recall. For example this one I read recently: DOI: 10.1001/jama.291.24.2978 And there's lots to be said about the issue with being overly cautious, because doubt is one of the most powerful tools of lobbyists, to maintain the status quo. I certainly won't deny that there's a lot of nutritional scientists who criticize lots of the studies that WFPB-proponents provide, and without having read a study on this specifically, I would guess that the vast majority of nutritional scientists disagree with (or are carefully skeptical of) WFPB. Fortunately, though, the consensus of scientists is not evidence in itself. You're not giving me much by just flat out denying that there's benefits with digesting more slowly but I guess I can make a few more claims so I can encourage you to elaborate on your rebuttal: * Assuming you don't eat any concentrated sugar products (or sweeteners), your blood sugar peaks will be much lower, benefiting insulin sensitivity. * Non-heme iron is harder to absorb than heme iron but the absorption rate is self-regulated by the body. Meaning it's virtually impossible to have excess iron from non-heme, while it's quite easy to have an excess of heme-iron. * It's very hard to overeat with such low calorie density foods, thus it's very easy to become or stay normal weight, which is one of the most important health factors influenced by diet.
@Muskar25 жыл бұрын
@no name fool *sigh* Before I leave this, I hope you at least get what WFPB means. Here's my last attempt: It means maximizing minimally processed foods where nothing good is removed and nothing bad is added. It's a separate thing from veganism. Junk vegans (i.e. biscuits, jam, fries, soft drinks etc.) are not likely on a WFPB diet. And WFPB eaters who consume meat or other animals products are not vegans.

Milk is produced for babies. Do adult humans still breastfeed from their mothers? no, so ovb breastfeeding for an animal makes no sense... And chickens do not have periods for us to consume their eggs.. thats why its filled with cholesterol.. Also humans would never be able to hunt a wild pig or a wild cow with their bare hands like a natural animal nor eat raw meat like a natural animal because its not healthy... It should be blatantly obvious that humans are not designed to eat animal products but rather humans are here to help guide, protect, nurture the environment and the animals. I would definitely agree that regular exercise helps IBS symptoms dramatically! I used to only workout 2-3 times a week in the afternoons, but since switching to fasted morning workouts 5-6 times a week, my digestion has improved so much. I also find that doing a short, 10-15 minute walk after eating meals helps with digestion quite a bit.

Yeah there are vegan body builders. When people say they did everything right and their hair was falling out, I'm pretty damn sure they weren't eating enough, or they went too low fat, or they were totally raw, or something along those lines. It's ironic to me that junk food vegans so called tend to do better. I don't think it's because of junk food but I do think it's because of an openness of eating a variety of foods as long as they are vegan. People who think drinking green smoothies and adding another handful of spinach is doing everything right aren't doing their research. There should be openly listings for vegan doctors in order to avoid this.

A big problem with the vegan community is that people try to act as doctors and give medical advice. This is so out of line and inappropriate. Don’t make assumptions about other people’s health. Do what you want with your own health, but you do not get to control or even influence other people if you’re not their own personal doctor.

Okay, I keep seeing people fall off the vegan path because: acne-->antibiotics-->dysbiosis-->IBS. It's really frustrating because it isn't because of the vegan lifestyle. THIS HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE I WAS VEGAN. 7 years ago I had been suffering from painful, ugly, cystic acne for years, so my dermatologist prescribed me the antibiotic, minocycline. The side effects included dizzyness (which I did experience) but I figured it was worth it to have nice skin for the first time since I was 11 years old. Then the dizzyness became more intense, and I found myself not being able to eat my normal amount of food because it made me nauseous. I still kept up the antibiotics because acne destroyed my self esteem and I wasnt about to return. I lost weight. Weeks later, after eating food I could stomach (cereal, apples, and tunafish) , my intestines starting burning in pain. By then, I had dropped about 20 pounds and my parents were getting worried and took me to the doc. My resting heart rate was in the 30s (bradycardia) and I was 5'7" and only 97 pounds. Doc sent me immediately to the hospital and for three weeks I struggled with doctors telling me I had anorexia. THEY DID NOT BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAID THE ANTIBIOTICS HAD DONE THIS TO ME! My parents even started to believe the doctors. It was a nightmare and I still have the diagnosis "anorexia" on my record. Three weeks later, I was sent home and I just put up with the acne and IBS struggle for a couple more years. I hated doctors and the way they were swift to misdiagnose me. I became determined to heal myself naturally. Then I found the Whole Food Vegan Lifestyle 2 years ago and IT WORKED! I cleared my face and healed my gut within a year! And it opened my eyes to all the benefits of the lifestyle (Animals, environment, health). My boyfriend of 4 years(who supported me through part of the acne horrors) and I are now happy healthy confident vegans. People need to stop blaming every ailment on veganism. Check your blood-work first! There's usually always a vegan solution. I am heartbroken that many of the youtubers that exposed me to the plant based diet (and changed my life!) are now ex-vegans. (Rob Stuart, Bonny Rebecca, Vegetable Police). Thanks Mic for being one that is still holding strong.

Yeah, it’s scary when doctors give bad advice and we have to try and figure out our health problems by ourselves. I had ruined my health with stress and overwork and was in a downward spiral. I went to a TCM practitioner and she told me that I had to at least eat an egg a day (and my cholesterol was already too high!) I dug myself out of poor health and I’m on a vegan diet. My partner caught the flu at the end of December and I didn’t catch it, so I’m feeling like I’m finally gaining. But, I can understand that they felt that they had to follow that health professional’s advice when their health situation got really bad.

It was a zinc deficiency and it's relatively common in vegans.. up to 47%. I had an issue with acne years ago, it was persisted and nothing worked to stop it... Until I supplemented zinc picolinate. I put it all together when I was also getting ill with colds a lot and had other weird skin issues. Acne totally went away within 3 weeks but started to heal within days. I've recommended this to others and they've also seen a massive benefit to being cured of their acne.

Here was my comment to her: "You both should be able to switch back to fully vegan after a while. Exploring diet and disease is extremely difficult. The mistakes we make can cause regrettable temporary solutions. People can't always figure out how to thrive on a vegan diet and that's okay. I hope you'll try again soon. I'm extremely well researched in regards to diet and disease. I've been through Hell too. I was not fully vegan for a while, but I am now. After hearing your story, here's a little info that may help: - Allergy tests aren't what they seem. Poking the skin with food particles isn't effective. The foods that cause a reaction in those tests don't cause leaky gut, but in a leaky gut these foods may get into the blood stream, which can then cause an immune response. Those test basically just shows what foods you commonly eat and if they're leaking into your blood through your gut. The more frequently leaked/eaten foods have built a stronger immune response. Avoiding those foods helps avoid immune reactions but doesn't necessarily heal the gut. - Plant foods didn't cause his, or your, leaky gut or skin problem. His leaky gut probably existed before going vegan and was made worse long term by all the antibiotics, and maybe pesticides. When you try to switch back to plant proteins always buy organic. - Also, fiber can't cause leaky gut or make it worse, too little fiber and too much amino acid (protein) does. Resistant starch helps bring good bacteria in the stomach down into the intestines and colon. Which can be a problem if these good bacteria leak into your blood. I understand right know those same starch based foods, not the fiber itself, are causing immune reactions but after abstaining for a while they won't. Immune systems adapt. When the gut is healed you can add them back and they won't cause leaky gut or immune responses. - Dense nutrients will help heal the gut. Oil helps greatly with nutrient absortion, which is why animal products are helping you both right now. Canola has a good omega-3 to omega-6 ratio. Buy organic. Hemp oil is even better. Beware that bone broths are loaded with heavy metals. - Mock meats paired with canola oil would achieve the same results as animal protein in regard to nutrients. Make veggie soups with plenty of oil too. After your immune systems stop seeing gluten and soy as an enemy, in a few months or a year, try switching to mock meats. - Research has shown that cacao causes acne and skin problems. Many health food vegans add cacao nibs and very dark chocolate to their diet, upping their intake 95% from before going plant based. - Kombucha isn't a probiotic. It turns glucose into acid. It makes us acidic, causes leaky gut, and damages skin. A few frequent users have died or suffered coma. Many vegan think it's a health food. - Avoid active yeast in breads and such. It can contribute to gluten intolerances in a leaky gut. - Oh, and if it hurt when a doctor pokes around your stomach it only means your intestines are full, which is a good thing unless it's full of putrified meat. It's a test associated with constipation from excessive meat and low fiber consumption. It means nothing bad in regard to whole food plant based diets. Now that you're eating less volume of food you're going to have less of this mild discomfort. I don't think that alone is worth breaking from a vegan diet. Especially when there's high-caloric dense-nutrient low-volume plant-based options. - I hope you'll consider all this when his gut is healed... and remember you can return vegan while still supporting his temporary needs. Take care."

Honestly, I can totally understand why she did what she did and why she decided it would be best (for now!) to add some animal based food back into her (and his) diet. I suffer from real, real bad gut issues due to my celiac and genetics histamine 'intolerance' (which doesn't only affect me in giving me a 9 month pregnant belly nearly every night but also insomnia, weather sensitivity, mood swings, depressive phases, rashes, skin issues, constipation, ... everything you can possibly imagine going wrong) and I have tried eeeeeverything! from medication, different diets, elimination, probiotics, a lot of sport, no sport, different combinations of things, stress management, sleep therapy, no-trying-at-all-to-reduce-stress-that-is-caused-by-me-stressing-about-everything,.... name a thing, I've most likely tried it) ..... & then I went vegan. First, everything went SO GOOD. My digestion got better, with that my bloating went down, I've excluded so many histamine rich foods by default and everything went soooo well, but slowly it went downhill again. I can't digest legumes well, they just don't agree with my intolerance, I have to limit nuts, can't really have processed food due to preservatives and being pre-cooked and stuff, I can't have a lot of different fruit and veg (like avocado, some berries, citrus, banana, .. basically the riper the thing the more reaction. fermented is worst - like anaphylactic shock incoming) ... I've tried to ignore the problems (again) but it just doesn't work anymore. I'm lost. Doctors can't find anything. Blood, stool, microbiome, organs seem perfect (or as perfect as would be 'normal' for other people I guess).... I know how hard it can be do decide if a diet works and I know how easy it can be do 'fall' down a hole and grab every glance of hope - in whatever it may be. I don't know if that even makes sense and I don't know if there is a solution for MY problem --- but if she found a solution for HER problem and he found a solution for HIS problem, please let them try it. Let them get the one thing back that is needed to function as a human: health. Well being. If quitting veganism FOR NOW is helpful, let them live. Let them do what they believe is the right thing to do. I mean, she may be influencing some people (who suffer from health issues as well) to do more research about how to fix their own problems, and even if some people will go back to eating animal products again, remember: She inspired so many people to actually go vegan. And if you're on there for the right reasons, feel good and happy, then you won't change it anyways, would you? And even if, wouldn't you want other people to accept your choice? To make you feel better, not even more miserable? Man, some people are just .... aaagh sorry xD edit: I'm 22, vegan since a little over 2 years (before that mostly vegan by default without even noticing it until someone told me) - both celiac and histamine genetic wise, coming from my dads side of the family. my grandpa died from colon cancer and my uncle has super bad ulcer type issues and pre-colon-cancer-symptoms. My dad has the same issues as I do, but doesn't notice them that strongly. Just to give you more background info in case you're even reading this until here - if yes, thanks for listening to my monologue :D

My wife and I went on a WFPB diet just over a year ago. Following Dr. Gregors' recommendations to a tea. My wife has suffered from IBS and acid reflux. At first, the vegan diet seemed to really benefit both of us, but then after about six months our skin started to break out and my wife's digestive issues came back. We started taking algae pills and had our blood checked. Found out that some how she was very low on potassium (even though we were eating a ton of potassium rich foods like dark leafy greens, sweet potatoes, pinto beans, and bananas). She also discovered that her B12 exceeded the upper limit by over 100. She stopped taking her B12 for several months and magically her potassium levels increased. We have both seen a significant decrease in our teeth and skin health (gums receding, enamel wearing down and looking more translucent, and our skin seems to have aged years). Not really sure what to say, or do. Trying to follow all of the experts, research on my own (one of my passions and something I have pursued both academically and professionally). As you have mentioned in the video, there are those who do not react to a vegan diet the same way as the majority, and it is those individuals who really need to have help available to them so that they are not slowly destroying their bodies. You had also mentioned that it is nearly impossible to be obese on a vegan diet that is whole food plant based. I have to contradict this statement, because I am indeed still obese (despite my close adherence to Dr. Gregors' advice found in his book). My weight has also increased, which I'm not sure how that is possible. Anyways, just a few thoughts and stories to put out there. We really appreciate your efforts and investment into creating videos that are formulated on sound research.

What's your daily caloric intake? Are you taking any medications that could affect your hormones or metabolism? Also many people underestimate the amount of calories they actually eat. It doesn't matter what type of diet you're on, the laws of thermodynamics still apply and if the body is consuming too many calories and not burning them off, weight gain will occur.

I have had pretty much the same experience with the skin and weight issues though my IBS is pretty much gone so that's nice. I found that I was eating more calories than I realised,I came from eating a lot of fast food but because I was aware it was bad I had small portions, going vegan I was thinking everything is so healthy I can eat heaps but my daily calorie intake went up by about 200-300 per day, not because I was hungry and felt I needed that much but more based on an assumption that I needed to eat drastically more. I tracked my food with chronometer for a week and then the occasional day if I'm curious and have started to lose weight with no exercise change and not going hungry. I took four months of first going vegan to gain 7kg eating lots of potatoes and pasta and in a month of actually thinking about my food I've lost 2kg so pretty similar pace. I have found the B12 acne causation as well and have reduced my B12 supplementation

I cleared up my IBS on a vegan diet. It was absolutely terrible. All of my life decisions had to be made around it. I hated road trips because I had to stop constantly to go to the bathroom and I was scared of eating something that would set it off, and I was scared of doing things like sports because I didn't know if there would be a bathroom close by. I would have the worst abdominal pain. And also the celery juice guy obviously isn't science based and I usually avoid that at all costs, but I did celery juice everyday for 30 days just to see what would happen and it was a game changer. Even after going vegan I would have the occasional (sorry this is TMI) diarrhea episode and bloating and pain, but I haven't had it since the celery juice which I did this summer. IBS has a lot to do with carbs and metabolism. In essence its caused by the intensities biome breaking down sugars in the wrong places. Technically anyone can get those symptoms from eating difficult to metabolize sugars in enough quantity which is also why ISB symptoms are very similar to lactose intolerance. For the most part these carbs are considered sugars or complex sugars. But the distinction from starches is blurry here since thats where they are broken apart. Therefor you're going to want to avoid foods with high proportions of fructose and lactose. For example apples or broccoli. While other foods like celery are mostly galactose. You could also try zucchini squash.

We all are on a spectrum - if eating a few eggs or small portions of meat once a week and it keeps you healthy and able to eat a mostly plant based diet that's an overall win for the planet, the individual and the animals.
