Watching after the election... I understand where a lot of commenters saying, "you should be worried" and "this aged like milk" are coming from. However, the results of this election DO NOT negate his overarching point surrounding grassroots organizations and direct action. Yes, it is easier to say all this coming from a place of privilege, but it doesn't mean these things shouldn't be said. Things will get worse. But people should be inspired now more than ever to take direct action to positively affect local community. Make the change you can, if you can, privileged or not, worried or not.

The trick is not to beat yourself up about worrying, and then beat yourself up for beating yourself up about worrying, and so on in spiraling layers ad infinitum. _Worry is a signal that something you care about might be threatened_, so notice it, welcome it, thank it for bringing the thing to your attention - maybe write the issue down so the worried part of you knows you won't forget - and then (and only then) move onto what, if anything, might be appropriate to do about it. If you're a chronically intellectuallizing kind of person, you might also benefit from some kind of practice that improves your ability to notice how worry feels in your body. But on the other hand, if I included more people into it, I will simply not have enough time(or mental fortitude) to maintain the relationships. Typically when I hear/talk about direct action community networks, it's the sort with some form of agreed organization(or intentional lack of it) with resource allocation plans, timetables and roles. Inner tight knit circle and outer, on & off volunteer, circle. Planned activities, training, rehearsals etc etc. All of that depending on the main function of the network of course. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjugated races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or native police." In an eight-paragraph order, Hitler's secretary Martin Bormann said: "When girls and women in the Occupied Territories of the East have abortions, we can only be in favor of it; in any case we should not oppose it. The Fuhrer believes that we should authorize the development of a thriving trade in contraceptives. We are not interested in seeing the non-German population multiply." All I can think when I'm told to do something about it is "do what?" Helping the homeless is a little different from trying to help people whose very existence in this country is at stake. How do I help women with their reproductive rights when abortions are illegal everywhere? How do I help immigrant friends retain their rights when their presence in the country is illegal? How do I help my trans friends exist and thrive and have the ability to be themselves when medically and therapeutically supporting them is criminalized? You can say the magic words all you want about "doing something" and "making a change in your community" but when the federal fucking government is opposed to you and is too rich and privileged and detached to care if you're under their steamroller--and when half the country is bigoted enough to LET THEM--tell me what exactly I'm supposed to do and I'll do it!
@oliearts807415 күн бұрын
look into mutual aid and grassroots organizations in your community (punk shows are my go-to place to ask around, but thats... probably not most people's scene. Libraries might have a bulletin board with relevant fliers, or you can look online for facebook groups and whatnot) and volunteer with them. Yeah, your control is limited, but you CAN still help---maybe you can't change the abortion laws, but you can help raise money so a woman can travel to a state where abortion is still legal. Maybe you can't help your immigrant friends retain rights, but you can help ensure they still have food and shelter regardless and someone on their side standing up for them. Maybe you can't give trans friends their medical care, but you can organize wardrobe swaps and raise money for binders so they aren't completely left out to dry. I know its scary and frustrating and you want to be able to fix it all, but harm reduction is still important, even if you cant get rid of the harm entirely. You can still make a difference for the people around you.

watched this only up to 4 minutes, and as a non-american observer, all i can say is that these ppl have lost their dmn minds. this is why i stay out of politics as much as possible and have never even voted in my 32 years of life. politics/politicians are so corrupt, i refuse to take part of that. i've no idea why this even came up in my recommended videos. i think ppl living in this division, it's hard for them to see how far off from reality they've gone. i just wish that the radicals on both sides would leave alone ppl like me, you know your normal, average person who just want to go on with their peaceful lives without as much disruptions as possible!
