Dude I'm totally in the same boat. I've also played 1.8 since it came out, I'm only a couple months younger than you. I really don't mind one or two fights on 1.8 every now and then, but I struggle to spend any more than 10-15 minutes on 1.8 1.20+ has endless possibilities, the unique game modes are so fun. Even the difference between Beast kit and Speed are literally so different. 1.8 and 1.20+ feel like almost different games to be honest.

I absolutely agree that 1.8 has gotten stale, hell I feel the same way with you. The only thing it not being stale is the friends I play with or whenever I stream it on twitch, interacting with chat and all. Whatever the changes we must treasure the memories it gave us (pandemic era for me gave me so many good and bad memories for 1.8 its surreal)

I remember those days logging on to play hcf latenights with a couple of my friends or hop on practice when leaderboards actually mattered for pot pvp. I will forever miss those times and I will miss the friends I made then even more, but playing with the modern smp community feels like those times I use to play hcf and had fun sweating the game and i've managed to meet some of the coolest people and start content on my own. Nothing it forever and I respect you for leaving it behind o7.

R.I.P I myself will probably stick to the 1.8 until something changes or I will just quit Minecraft overall. I am not a good 1.9 player but the problem I have with 1.9 version is that it's very limited and slow. Compared to 1.8 that has countless gamemodes regardless of it not being updated for 10 years. 1.20 pvp just has duels and hoplite and that's it. 1.8 pvp is limited by no game updates but 1.20 pvp is limited by the pvp mechanics which make it hard to make fun gamemodes.

as a 1.8 pvp and 1.20+ survival tryhard, i too find the newer combat style more strategy-oriented (tho bedwars has strategy) and look forward to your 1.20 combat content! 1v1 duels in regular survival worlds are also a lot of fun and endurance-based so im really excited

4:52 Good point but if the server Makes more updates soon(which is the plan) and u simply change Ur texture pack sometimes (ngl it really helps) then the game still feels new and the updates that 1.20 gets arent changing tht much for pvp (after all its still a cave game).

the second 1.9 pvp existed, i was ecstatic. it really went from spamming to a strategy based, fun, and much more stressful system. i can understand the enjoyment from 1.8, but honestly, i always stick with newest updates for pvp.

One thing I really hate about 1.20 pvp is that axes are more commonly used than swords because of shields in vanilla survival pvp. Plus the totem of undying which I think is really unnecessary for a survival game. And netherite armour looks bad

I think this is the best option as I think all servers will start moving to 1.20 as 1.8 doesnt have the pull it used to. For 4 years 1.8 was for pvp and 1.9+ was for survival but it seems 1.9+ is for everything and 1.8 is for the small chunk of people who still prefer older versions.

Lowkey, I just feel like is such a shame how the 1.8 PvP has it's flaws, because it was SO unique! However, it is just inhumane to think that clicking faster can get so many advantages (such as getting less knockback...? I don't know man, it is janky), and how there is so many inconsistencies overall. I do understand why to quit 1.8 PVP - I did so 3 years ago, and it helped me to expand my horizons as a content creator and gamer. I just feel sad that the "good old days" might just never come back

If anything, I'm SHOCKED you didn't make this video SOONER. For me personally, 1.8 just hasn't felt the same since at least 2 and a half years ago. Wow time flies. I've been playing PVP since 2014 and I got burnt out of 1.7/1.8 two years ago. I have played it for over a decade, but nowadays its very difficult for me to hop on it anymore or Minecraft in general. It no longer feels the same and that passion I once had for it is gone. I've seen many 1.8 videos for many years now by you and other creators who have long since left the community as well, and its crazy to see so many people come and go. Personally I have many issues with the current 1.20+ combat that I wish would get fixed, but I was able to enjoy it more when I eventually got into it in recent years. It may be the end of an era, but this is only the beginning of a new one 💙
