Best of luck! I was a site engineer and land surveyor in the UK for 16 years. During that time 3 collegues killed themselves, 6 engineers i know had full mental breakdowns, 1 died driving home tired from a 14 hour day, and a friend was killed onsite. Im on my 3rd knee surgery, and awaiting surgery for my shoulder and both hips. I'm only 38! I quit a few years ago and went in to digital marketing, have never looked back. The stress of the construction industry is a secret, no one knows what we do in our service to building the country. Thanks for your service and have fun on your next adventure 💪

Best of luck Michelle in your new venture! I am in my forties now and have worked in construction since the late 90's so can fully understand the way you feel. I got out of the game a couple years ago a bit less money but its less stress now, nicer colleagues & just 40 hours. Leave it to the younger guys! I always enjoyed your videos x

Ah nice! I’m in good company then! I think you are right it’s a young persons game. Such a shame though as it really taught me a lot over the years as I’m sure it did to you!

I'm a bricklayer in London and what you say about what the big contractors say and what they actually do when it comes to combatting toxic cultures and bullying is absolutely spot on. It's just window dressing, hence why I do whatever possible to stay away from large commercial building sites.
@SheWhoDaresWinsАй бұрын
Ah it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who sees through the bullshit. I think you are right the smaller companies actually normally get it right.
@evocartiАй бұрын
@@SheWhoDaresWins It's actually really cringe after you've gone through the online induction where the main contractor showcases their alleged commitment to combatting said cultures and it all goes out the window once your boots are on the ground/scaffold. I only work for big subbies when I'm desperate.

What a shame we still have such unwelcoming cultures for women in so many insdutries. Loved what you shared and I'm happy to know you're moving on to something you´re passionate about. Cheers!
