@@booth2710 Candles looks like a good way for lighting the house, buy them now because when everyone starts using them even candles will go up in price. I've got a deep cycle leisure battery used in camper vans, caravans and motor homes, I connect it up to my alternator using a split charging circuit so the battery is charged up as I drive, I take the battery into the house and I use that with 12v LED lights instead of using the mains lights. ....every little helps. I am also considering getting four 250w solar panels to attach to my shed roof ( solar panels don't need to go on the house roof ) and a couple of extra batteries. I can use an inverter to convert the 12v to 230v and although the initial outlay is about £800 - £1000 I can build it up as I can afford it ..........adding extra batteries as I can afford them will enable me to also run the fridge, boiler and and other low powered appliances. I'm gradually going semi off grid. Screw the electric companies !!! 🤬

Now that is the real reason for this shift. The companies that supply have on costs "overheads" and if we , the consumer, reduce our payable consumption then in order for them to maintain (or increase thier margins wholesale prices etc) then it is the consumer that has to pay. Lots, Lots and lots of excuses but the bottom line in profit.

Of course they do, but this is unfortunately true of so many occupations. The only reason jobs will be secure is whether they can be carried out more efficiently, better and cheaper by hand. There are very few of these nowadays and people don't want to pay for a service that shows them no advantage. Driver-less lorries and trains aren't very far away.

@ferkemall Yes, you are of, course, correct. However. This is what happens when new technology is introduced. There is nothing wrong with change, only very rapid change that causes economic and social disruption. Steam powered locomotives disappeared from mainline railway services because they were expensive to run, inefficient and associated with unhealthy dangerous jobs underground that also disappeared. New, more technical jobs emerge to replace them. Regrettably, few jobs are safe from change but our pension funds, insurance policies and savings, if we are lucky enough to have any, survive on the ability of others to see and invest in emerging trends in industry. The average, low-paid, hard working man and woman is nearly always the most adversely affected by such changes.

@@lost4468yt Hi Levi. AHA - that’s where you are wrong, Grasshopper! I guess you suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect regarding your statement that “kVA and kW are literally the same thing"! NO - they are NOT the same thing! The primary difference between kW (kilowatt) and kVA (kilovolt-ampere) is the power factor. kW is a unit of real power, whilst kVA is a unit of real power PLUS re-active power (collectively known as apparent power). This is mainly due to an effect known as Power Factor. As a consequence, in most circumstances, the kVA value will always be HIGHER than the value for kW. If you are not sure what all this means (i.e. the Dunning-Kruger effect), just carry out some internerd searches and you will find out.

I'm saying no because I think they will eventually be used as a way to cap usage. Say you use 10mw a day. These meters will allow company's to set usage rates which means they can set your meter to 7mw a day and once you have used that 7mw, you then run into premium charging for the rest of the day. It's a scam. I think this is how it will be used.
@lost4468yt
@lost4468yt 2 жыл бұрын
But how on earth do you think an old meter will stop them doing that? All they will do is divide your monthly reading by the days in that month, then calculate it that way... E.g. you can only use 10kWh per day, you give them your meter readings at the end of the month, and it turns out to be 400kWh. Well 400 - (10*30) = 100kWh. Then they would just charge you the premium fee for the 100kWh, and the normal for the 300kWh. Smart metres have nothing to do with this type of pricing... If they want to do it, they can do it regardless of the meter type.

The problem is, A Smart Meter is NOT going to save you money! If you look at the readings of your meters Electricity or Gas. and Look at your bills and say Oh a smart meter, that help me save money by letting me see what I using? You won't be saving with it. Because say you need to heat your home in the cold winter or need to cook your dinner or need to keep your fridge or freezer going. Saying Oh no I've seen my meter readings, I don't like them! I cut back by not heating my home or cooking my dinner or keeping my fridge or freezer working. But you need to do those things! HOW the heck will seeing the amount of power or gas your using ( and have to do to keep the home running ) on a smart meter save you any money? Sure you can use LED lamps or "A" rated home or kitchen appliances to save on your electric bills, But you can't say I oh I turn off the fridge or freezer to save the power they using because they will defrost and all your food be lost and like wise you can't say I save my gas by not heating the home in a cold winter because your be damn cold. So there be zero money saved Because you have to, have your home running and have your heat and kitchen stuff running. So in the end unless you wish to move to a Wooden house out the middle of nowhere with no electricity and gas installed in it, your not going to save on the bills you have now.

I think there are very much more pressing reasons to resist smart meters on grounds of health, safety, privacy and security. Even a short spell of research on these issues would convince most people that these concerns are legitimate and that the sources they come from are not all alarmist crackpots. For instance,the American Medical Association pointed out severe potential health hazards (including cancer risk). There are court cases pending in the USA over this issue. Some of these meters have also been implicated in starting fires and recalled. As for the privacy and security concerns, there are several tech savvy videos here on KZbin. explaining how these devices work and what they do and precisely why they pose a real threat to both personal privacy and security, including vulnerability to hacking. As far as I'm concerned, the hope to save a couple of quid (which I think is unfounded anyway) and know exactly how much power I'm using at any given time pales into insignificance when set against the above reasons for refusing ANY model of smart meter ever being installed.

A lot of the myths about smart meters are just that myths. Makes me laugh that people who say about the health issues of smart meters and yet go around with a mobile phone glued to their ears or have Wi-fi in the house. I myself have no interest in a smart meter and while the in the UK they are being pushed onto people, I do not see the use in them. they will not save money unless you act on the info that is given and since I still have to boil my kettle, or use my cooker or have my heating on, a meter telling me how much it cost is not going to stop me using energy. At the moment, the energy company I am with seems to have no plan to install smart meters at the moment, I presume they will have to start by next year, but I am not taking days of work or staying in so they can fit a meter that will be of no benifit to me.

So much bullshit in the comments here! 1) If you want to monitor your usuage, get a clip-on monitor. They've been around for years and they're cheap on eBay etc. 2) Take meter readings every month and record in a XL sheet or paper if you're old school. 3) No real benefit from smart meter other than if you are able to move onto an "agile tarrif", where the rate changes every 1/2hr and can even go below zero, ie they pay you! Seriously - google it! 4) They mainly benefit the suppliers and the companies managing the electricity grid, as it's really difficult nowadays to predict energy demand through the day and adjust the power stations to meet it without causing supply drops or grid overloads. 5) If you're really worried about RF emmisions from your meter, then you should also throw away any mobile phones, wifi devices, microwave ovens, anything with a microprocessor, etc etc. And move into the middle of Norfolk where there's no mobile coverage and at least 100m from any neighbour that might have any tech devices. Then build a Faraday cage around your house from chicken wire to stop TV, Radio, telemetry, satalite transmissions etc, and just to be sure, wear a tin foil hat. - A late friend of mine followed all these precautions and never had any problems with cancers, covid etc. He was, however, unfortunately struck by lightning.

Andy, Top up meter display has gone blank, but the electricity still works. I called British gas to change my top up meter 2 weeks ago. They still have not contacted me. I emailed the person that was dealing with this issue. No one from British gas has contacted me. What should I do?

I’ve got a broken gas meter with no heating and can’t cook. I’ve been told they won’t replace the old one with another and will only come out to fit a smart meter. They have left the gas off also so I’m using electric currently 😢I’m here for six months and I don’t want a meter with debt of £150+ that makes it impossible to top up afterwards from it swallowing every top up (happened to a friend) I’ve been told that’s my only choice

@@acelestialwitch8512 British Gas are annoying. And they charge when you try to phone them, and they make you wait for more than 40 minutes.

These meters almost killed me. Forced me into early menopause bc the radiation is sooooooo vicious. These meters are population control. 3 weeks after installation of 9 meters across the hall from my unit, I could no longer walk, speak, lift my head, my skin was burnt, my brain was so fried it was making electronic noises, (didn’t know a brain could do that) my finger nails were separating from my fingers, I was violently vomiting, my body was so hot it was like worse than the worst fever, I was forced to not sleep more than 2 hours every 3-5 days, (and when I did sleep I could only dream of fire related things, faces melting, walking over hot lava, etc. bc my body was communicating to me through the visuals in my dreams), nausea and depression like you’ve never imagined a human could feel, and more. My medical tests showed connective tissue damage, lung damage, kidney damage, liver damage, brain damage, and digestive system damage. The month before, my tests were healthy as could be. Took me about 7 weeks to recover, (which medical tests showed I was healing) after I had been rushed out of my apartment to a safe place to heal for those 7 weeks. I have been in hotels and friends houses and my office for 6 months trying to find a place to live that even if I opt out, that the neighbors meters won’t hurt me, bc once you are that badly blasted you can no longer be around even one. I know this bc I went to look at a home to live in (the sixth one) to see if I could live in it and her one meter on her 1600 sq ft townhouse, along with the neighbors’ meters on each of those townhouses, totaling 3 meters, after standing in her place for 20-30 minutes talking to the owner of the place, I re-injured myself. Medical tests showed that I had done it again. Injury to all my organs. These power companies need to be sued into oblivion and beyond. I am now being forced into menopause from the radiation. After the second bout of exposure, my cycles are not returning. I hope you all realize that these meters are a way of putting Ausch*itz on each and every house to take down population. People are nearly dying in a matter of 4-6 months of exposure.

Most people are oblivious to the fact that smart stuff, foive jee etc are military weapons and have been used as such - and banned in the 1960's. They have no place in public communications. Turned up they kill.

It's the one which should work fine if you switch your supplier. SMETS1 won't do that yet (though a software upgrade is meant to sort that out)

I really like my smart meter and can only see negative remarks. I don’t need to read meters andy more. I have a system that uses gas electric and solid fuel if the solid fuel is not heating to temp the gas takes over so pretty efficiant any way. I can check if things have been left on by mistake what uses the most is it more economical to use the electric kettle or the gas etc. I have found the best is leave the kettle on my rayburn and use from there or if not bioling put into the electric kettle rather then put on the gas stove. I can go round and turn lights off which I have always done but it tells me if a light is on upstairs saves going up if there’s none on in a large house this is useful. I don’t know what there is not to like. It’s the way you use it use it smart and get the best out of it.

I had the version 2 .After complaining about bills they said all was OK would not consider checking .we moved to Liverpool from Plymouth As the rule said meter could only be fitted 6 maths later I kept key meter .After weeks after talking to them as contract was terminated at old address a full audit was done on my complaint and low and behold I got £ 675.89 elec plus £ 370.26 in refunds . Over that period they asked when they could fit smart meter and I declined asking them to check data base as it was the same company EDF I asked for their insurance that they use to cover customers property in case of fire ect they said OK keep your meter job done..British gas and eon do not carry any insurance See videos about this Australia has had to drop mandatory meters because they can go on fire.they can be hacked and your WiFi products ie phones laptops computers ect using meters chip that send signals over 130 times a day also people complaining of health problems headaches ect Also the company sells your data to 3rd parties This includes everything about you how many times you put kettle on tv.radiators .as all product's have a traceable signature and best of all if you have alarm in house hackers know when your not at home. I suggest everyone does research on up to date videos on this subject no disrespect mate but have you made attempts at recent information. Or are you a gullible virgin

I'm shocked smart meters are only now becoming a thing, it feels like something people should have had at least 10 years ago! though with the usual it will kill us as its wireless or they can watch (even though just about everything you own these days is wireless and reports everything you do to the internet already) I can see why there will be a battle to get some normally older people to start using it
