Your negatives are actually a positive to me. The added challenge on climbs and tech make otherwise boring section a bit more fun. In my opinion thats whats scoutin about is all about 🤙

I put 29" wheels and a 29er fork on my scout 275. This raised the super low bottom bracket to a much more manageable height, made the bike a better climber, and much faster overall.

Did you put a 29 in the rear as well? I'm currently doing a scout build and picked up a 275 frame for 300 and a dvo sapphire 29er fork for 250, and have all but decided to just mullet it

It wont climb as well since slacker head tube / more fork travel / shorter stem equals lighter front end popping up. That’s why 90s mtb were great for climbing and harder on your back and riding downhill since they were the opposite of what I mentioned about the Scout.

I'm 186cm and all mountain bikes I owned by now, feel long to me! I even went 1 frame size down,and I still feel... stretched 😅 I don't ride steep angled bikes, just plain old XC geometry bikes! Budget of course, I can't afford anything good... Even with 30mm stem my 625mm top tube bike feels tooo long! I can't even imagine how much I would struggle on the bike with geometry like yours! If I had some money,I would order me a Jeff Jones bike! Short top tube! Yess😁 Greetings from Croatia from Kris 😎

Smaller bikes tend to create a more upright pedaling position which is great for cross country 👍 I personally like more aggressive geometry. It works better for my riding style. I owned the scout 275 and currently own the 290. The 29er has better climbing traction and more stability at speed and in rocky sections. At 6’ the 275 felt too small for me as well.

@njo9966 Жыл бұрын
What size frame did you get on your scout? I’m 6’1” and not sure L or XL
@joebikes Жыл бұрын
@@njo9966 I had the XL 275. At 6' 3", that felt a bit too small for me. You are definitely at an in-between height... but I would recommend sizing up. If a bike feels slightly too big, you can always go with a shorter stem and more sweep to your bars. In my opinion it's more difficult to get a small bike to feel larger, and it's easier to make a large bike feel smaller. This only works for one size up... so Large to XLARGE for example. Generally, you can't make an XL bike feel like a Medium.

wich fork do u got on it im thinking on buying it as a technik training bike but it has a Rockshox sector rl as a fork does sombody know how it is comparing to the recon rl silver?
@joebikes Жыл бұрын
I had a Rockshox Revelation on it. I personally prefer sealed damper cartridges over full bath dampers. The compression response with a cartridge is smoother, quicker, and the rebound is much better also 🤠 cartridge dampers are in higher end forks like the Rockshox Ultimate series.
@kevinburke1325 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for showing that. Yes, hardtails are not good in general for extremely rooty and rocky trails, which is unfortunately all there is in Georgia. You won't get any smoothness here. Hardtails are basically unusable.
@joebikes Жыл бұрын
You bet! I would argue that it depends on the hardtail. 27.5" does not roll over rocks and roots easily, especially a stiff hardtail like the Scout 27.5. The 29" knocks the edge of impacts significantly, especially a steel hardtail (hint to my new hardtail right there). With that said, if you're looking for the smoothest ride possible, hardtails are not the way to go. But if you're looking for the most direct power transfer - and if you ride mainly smooth trails - hardtails are your best bet 🤠 hardtails feel fantastic on jumps too!
@kevinburke1325 Жыл бұрын
@joebikes that's cool! Yeah, I definitely want to get into jumping. It would have to be a 29er for sure then because the stuff in Georgia is rooty and rocky, but I also need power transfer for climbs. I looked at your newer videos and I don't think I caught the name of your bike. Can you link the video of your new bike here?

This type of bike you want an upsize. Im very much between L and XL and i had L with 50mm stem. I cracked the frake within 18 months. Bike was ok on slow trails but dh and becoming unstable. I got frame refunded with chain reaction and got XL. Now i run 35mm stem with saddle 5mm forward. Completely different bike. Its like a tank. It plowes through EVERYTHING. Ir wants to go go go and go faster and faster. I was thinking of selling ir as i also owe banshee paradox v3 and i didn't sell it. Im keeping my scout. Absolute beast. Its a hardcore hardtail and you should get upsize and then havr a blast. I don't know your height but why 27.5 ? This bike is ment to go and 27.5 wheels arent made to go 🤷🏻♂️
@joebikes Жыл бұрын
Agreed, it is always best to upsize. In my case I was already on the largest frame size (XL) so I couldn't upsize. I had a50mm stem, so I didn't want anything longer than that (steering feels slow and sluggish with longer stems). I went with a 27.5 because I found a great deal on a used frame. It was a good experience for sure to know what works for me... I found that 27.5 just isn't the way to go for most trails (for me... a 6ft 3in dude). With that said, 27.5 is better at jumping, but only by a little bit. 29 is so much faster on everything, and still great on jumps. For tall people, 29 is the way to go. I will say, Nukeproof does have an XXL frame option now which is probably what I would go for personally 👍
