But the only reason why some appear to be better is because others have recognised and identified them. Also, once recognised, that confidence helps you to build yourself up more easily as well. So in essence the great get greater.

Other validation of your work is not what makes you a pro because if you only rely on other people to tell you that your work is good then you always be at their mercy if they do not. Suppose you create a piece of work that is amazing but you lack the confidence to know that is good and someone who is jealous knows that your work is good but tells you that is not, now you believe that and so you destroy your work, now that jealous person is happy because now you destroyed your work. JK Rowling was turned down by numerous publisher who told her that her book was not good enough, suppose she believed it we never would have had Harry Potter. Do not get me wrong let other people see your work and use that to improve but do not let their validation of your work stop you from pursing what you want because they are lot of jealous people out there that will tell you your work is not good so that you do not proceed because they themselves failed, they do not want you to succeed or they simple want to abandon you work so they can steal your work for themselves own.

She still required the validation of a publisher and subsequently the Harry Potter readers to validate her work. She was great, but never benefitted from her work until she was validated.

@@williamuemura7644 You confusing the issue with someone taking a chance on you with validation. She never needed validation because she already knew her work was great. I saw an interview with her a while back and the interviewer asked her how she felt about being turned down by so many publishers, and she responded that although she was turned down she never needed others to validate her work because she already knew it was good and there was a market for but all she needed was an opportunity to shine. JK Rowling does need an audience to validate her work because relying on an audience for validation is one show way to go bankrupt. You have seen the streaming services like Netflix, and Disney Plus all making a decision based on the validation of Woke brigade and then going broke because they turned off the main audience.

Is this quote even true? Isn't marketing just about telling people about how good a product is which is just another way of saying how good your coding skills are? Seems like we have a circular dependency here. In order for people to know how good you are at programming they have to know about the product you make from programming but they can't know about your product if you don't tell them about it first. Maybe its not a circular dependency but rather and indication that in order to become great at something, you must have validation and you can't be validated unless people know about what you are doing and can judge it for themselves. So everything that is great must have been only good previously till the truth is spread by others and not yourself.

Really agree with this. When I started out as a junior dev I saw everyone else doing leet code exercises to get better and wanted to try the same. My mentor at that time told me that won't make me a better developer, practicing to build good projects to solve a business problem would. Practicing code problems on the internet is like trying to learn the answer to a specific math equation for an exam for which the variables might be totally different. You should be able to utilize what you've learned in any situation consistently if you want to be a good programmer.

Unfortunately for him the Babbage architecture he was programming for turned out to be vaporware but his code was so beautiful he wanted to keep working on it so he wrote an emulator for it to run on the Amiga since that was the best type of computer available but no-one uses Amigas anymore so he repurposed it to run as a Java applet in order to be truly cross-platform. He is working on the finishing touches, it should be ready for alpha soon.

You're absolutely right, I know some really smart guys that are software engineers but they're way too focused on solving puzzles and not solving problems that can actually generate revenue/profit. Its a common thing you see in the tech field.

I totally agree! Development is now a major part of the puzzle and being a well rounded engineer requires soft skills and more than just good technical knowledge. I use a lot of soft skills at both my daily software engineer job and my side ventures. Glad someone else sees and said it!
