After a career teaching chemistry, Aleen discovered stained glass in her 70's and progressed into fused glass. Nearing 90, she would like to encourage other seniors to try something new in their golden years and give glass art a chance. On this channel, she will make short videos to inspire and educate about methods and techniques with an eye towards affordable ways to get started. Peppered throughout, she will also have short videos remininising about the past.

Repent and trust in Jesus. He's the only way. We deserve Hell because we've sinned. Lied, lusted stolen, etc. But God sent his son to die on the cross and rise out of the grave. We can receive forgiveness from Jesus. Repent and put your trust in him. John 3:16 Romans 3:23❤😊❤❤

Hey Aleen…I started playing the harp at 50, became a therapeutic musician playing in hospital and hospice, and at age 68, this November I start taking Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) units to become an interfaith chaplain who plays the harp. I was a librarian for 30 years, and loved it, but knew there was more to life. To all of you young folks out there, life is exploring, reinventing yourself, trying new things, and being of service…life is amazing…live it!❤

Thank you. I needed this. Been struggling alot in life esp careerwise (im an african architect) moved to engineering and I'm seeing that it's the same challenges. Now I'm opening myself to other opportunities at 37. I feel like I've wasted my mom's money and my own struggling to prove myself with a stellar portfolio with no money or stability to show for it. I'm moving again but I know I can take any job and still do my best. Maybe it's time to go back to guitar piano and drawing for the sake of it. 😊

I took a workshop in mixed media collage when I was 50. The class description said you didn’t need to have any prior experience with it, so I decided to take the plunge. I’ve been doing it for twenty years now and my love and passion for it grows ever stronger. Am spending this entire weekend (I still work part-time) with paints and papers and brushes and all the fun art materials-just playing and making pretty things. It’s my joy, my relaxation, my therapy. It simply satisfies my soul. Before I started this journey, I had no real hobbies (except reading, I suppose), and I couldn’t, for the life of me, figure out what I was supposed to be doing with my life. Now I know! So I encourage you to explore doing more of the things you love or things you are attracted to learning more about. The first step is the hardest, so just do it!❤

While I'm only 57, I felt like society tends to write you off after your 40's. I have seen many people my age fall prey to that mentality and say they are too old for this or that. That is why I started my channel as well. It's a simple channel such as yours is but I want to encourage not quite seniors and older to be passionate about life by finding what interests you. It is so important for your brain and body to be passionate about life. I recently bought a house with acreage when most people my age think about downsizing. I have to do so much physical work on this property to reclaim it's overgrown, neglected land. But it's something I am passionate about. Regenerative gardening. Spiritual growth. Old fashioned homekeeping etc. Find your passion regardless of your age!

I'm 71 and work 17 hours a day as a private duty rn for one patient. I work 17 hours a day 365 days a week and have been doing this since 2006 after I took an early retirement from a university as a history professor. I think if you're physically able to working it keeps you young in your thinking acumen, your mind stays in tip top shape and it helps to motive you to live longer because, you have a meaningful purpose. I know it's not for every elderly person however it works for me. My mother work a retail job until she was 85. She retired and died at 92. My father played 18 holes of golf every Sunday until he was 89. He died at 90. So I just think staying active as long as you can doing what you love if able is beneficial. However, there are people who are in mental decline that do need to step aside because they become impediments. So I am very happy and supportive of your KZbin channel.🙌🏼💕👏🏼

I have been this way since getting my 1st of many (6) autoimmune diseases at 30. It wasn't too bad when I was raising my kids. As I got sicker and sicker it became much worse. It is called agoraphobia. It can go along with anxiety, depression, illness etc. My mom is 77 and has been widowed for 5 years from my dad. She has been this way ever since. Covid made it 10 x worse. She will leave for medical appointments & a few holidays. That's it. She does go outside & visits with neighbors but going anywhere puts her in a fit of nerves. She does see a counselor. I talked to her about getting out more. She said she is scared of getting sick. She has also turned into a germaphobic. It's hard to watch someone who was so independent become so scared.

This woman inspires me! I’m 72 and have been crafting all my life. I was blessed with having a mother who was interested in many things, often dragging me around to second hand shops ( she refinished furniture) and flea markets to find old, interesting things. I thank her for that. I cannot imagine my life without working with my hands to create. I live alone, far from my family yet wake up each day to happily create. I feel that one of the things wrong with young ppl today is they have so little creativity. Perhaps because schools have dropped their art classes? Who knows. I also see that young ppl seem to have much less curiosity, again, something my dear mother had and passed down to me. This woman is an inspiration to all of us. 👏👏👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🥰🥰🥰🥰

It’s more than sad I would say it’s criminal, but the first classes is to hit the chopping block, when money is short is the arts, theater 🎭 and music. And they are also important for one’s mind. But they must teach the basics and if the people don’t want their taxes risen and there’s not enough money that they have no choice. I was in high school I graduated in 1977. And 77 was our year of no sports! Because the tax referendum failed. All of us kids were so angry. You know you never forget something like that. I’ve never forgotten.😢 But you keep on keeping on. ❤❤❤

I took an Intro to German class in community college & my seatmate was a lady in her 70s. She was getting ready for a big trip to Switzerland (chocolate tour) with her husband. By the end of the semester there were only about 10 of us left, so we all got to know each other pretty well. A few months after the semester ended she sent me a long email telling me all about her trip. Loved her so much!!! She really made me believe in lifelong learning. I really can't praise/recommend community colleges enough, both for adult learners (and that can just mean "I feel like learning something new," all the way up to starting a degree) & broadening your horizons as a young person.

@@wind_scratch8387 I feel that way myself, all too often. These are nasty times. But life is always worth living. There's much more to it than enjoyment. For one thing, there's satisfaction. That's something, if you don't have it now, you can make for yourself. At first, it may seem to be drudgery. But just ignore that. Feelings can mislead. Focus on the *doing* , not the feeling. Pick something, engage in doing it, do not stop until it is done, no matter how long it takes. The more obstacles, the more you learn. Start by taking satisfaction in that. As you continue, take satisfaction in the journey itself, and your progress to date. At the end, you have the satisfaction of knowing you did something of value to you. (So don't pick anything that you don't value. Find something you like, something you care about, someone else you care about - there are many ways to approach it.) I wish you all the best! In the end, if you're satisfied, you'll also find that you enjoy feeling that way. And then you'll always have a way to dig yourself out.

Thank you! When my patents retired they didn’t just sit down to do nothing. They both enrolled in classes. My father rekindled his interest in photography (analogue), and over four years took the full set of courses to reach the level of professional photography. My mother, who always liked to draw, started drawing and painting classes (oil paint). She’d previously taken Chinese watercolour classes and wanted to expand her skills. They’re not interested in earning money from their art but did several exhibitions and Dad was asked to make a series of photographs of the inhabitants of a local nursing home, to decorate the common areas and hallways. The compassion and humanity just dripping off those photographs is breathtaking. They travel. A LOT. They photograph and paint during those travels and gift their work, as they believe they gained joy from their art and why not share it? Dad self-published several books and if he were promoting them (he doesn’t feel the need to) they’d be going like hotcakes. I’m 53 and after a spinal injury kept me from my beloved lace knitting, I recently taught myself to spin. It gave me something to do that was still related to yarn as I couldn’t sit still for more than 15-30 minutes in the same position. A spindle allows me to sit or stand as needed for my body not to seize up and keeps the pain bearable. I’ve given away a lot of my yarn, as I can’t use it yet and the knitters I gave it to couldn’t believe I started spinning only a few short months ago. I hope to be able to knit lace again soon. It’s not necessarily about age. It’s not about skill. It’s about being curious and giving a mild interest a chance to grow. The rewards can be immense. It doesn’t need to cost a lot of money. It doesn’t even need to be about having a lot of free time. Thank you for sharing. You are an inspiration! I see so many people hesitant to try something, afraid of failure, afraid of ‘not being good at something’. Give it a go. Enjoy the ride. See where it brings you. As an adult, you’re rarely ‘too young’ to try something. You won’t often be ‘too old’ either (barring health and safety concerns). If you think you don’t have the time, see if there is something you can ditch that will free up a few minutes a day to investigate your interest. And, as you said: “depend on the young ones to help you.” It doesn’t mean you need to demand their time and knowledge. It just means you may ask and they may just take you up on it and help you get started.

Some other inspiring seniors: there were 257 seniors in the age 70 to 74 age group who completed running last year's New York City Marathon; there were 79 runners in the 75 to 79 age group; and 21 runners in the 80-years- plus age group. That is runners completing the 26.2-mile NYC Marathon!

Wow, taught chemistry at college level for thirty years-one smart lady! I barely got thru one course! Good message! My Grandma lived until she was 95 and was so talented-she braided rugs, made quilts, sewed beautifully, canned fruit, gardened, etc. There were never enough hours in the day for all she wanted to do. May you have many more happy years doing your lovely stained glass pieces!

My great aunt went to Beauty School (that’s what they called it then in the 70’s) at age 54. She graduated and opened her own shop, The Pink Puff Stylon… a word she combined with salon and style. She was ahead of her time with combining words! She worked in her shop until she was 90 years old, then she retired. She also played golf until she was 90. I think she died at age 94. What a legacy!

I fully agree with your determination to keep active in mind and body, and to venture into new, and enjoyable territory, even at an advanced age. I am in my mid-eighties, officially retired at 72, but continue to serve as historian and consultant at my last place of regular employment, the American School for the Deaf, building its historical collections and carrying out special projects. I garden (flowers), and am building collections of rare books and manuscripts for donation to my college Alma mater and local research libraries. And I have posted interviews on local TV and UTUBE, and I hope to remain active as long as my strength permits. Life is so full of interest -- and always something new to learn or explore! I wish you all the best for success and fulfillment in your new venture. You are an inspiration to all us seniors.

There's also new ways to do your favorite old things even when you become disabled! You can replace your nature walks with spinning an off road wheelchair, or do wheeled golf or whatever sport you miss, or do puffy paintings or pottery if your eyesight has made regular painting too hard, lay a speaker on your chest or collarbone so you can feel music if your hearing is gone now, so many new ways of doing your favorite things even once you've become disabled!

What gorgeous glasswork! When I retired my "jobs" became our huge vegetable garden and volunteering at the local animal shelter. The garden keeps me moving (and the harvest gets canned/frozen to feed us in the winter). The animal shelter gets me out of the house to play crazy cat lady with 190 cats. I watched my mother fade from vibrant, inquisitive, brilliant, and fiercely independent woman when she retired: she quit doing anything. I've long believed learning keeps us young - and you're proof of that! Thank you so much for sharing!

I find myself getting more scared every year that passes that I'm not fulfilled in my life ... Just seeing you doing what you love and what you're passionate about at 90 years old, gives me so much hope. I always feel like I'm too old to start doing anything new when I know that sounds crazy to a lot of you that are older than me doing all kinds of new stuff. I'm sure I'm looked at as a baby still to some of you... So the younger ones have a lot to learn from our seniors as well. I am 100% behind Aleen's taking up stained glass. I did the same and luckily found a stained glass studio in the town where I lived at the time that not only gave classes, but they let you come in and work on your projects there. I made a large panel for my parents one year that took a bit over 2 months to make working on it when I had spare time. They were awed by it and my dad had it hung and backlit in a central living room window. Almost 40 years and 2 houses later, it is now hanging in a large kitchen wall window not 5 feet from where I am typing this.

Wow Aleen, you are true inspiration to your and other generations behind you. My Mother, who passed away just after her 90th Birthday was also not going to allow age to define her. She would be using her computer, shopping on line and her carers would arrive and couldn't believe how tech savvy she was (with my and my husband's help). She loved art and became an artist in her 70s. It was sad for her that macular degeneration robbed her of much of her sight and osteoarthritis was so bad she was in constant pain every day. Mum, like you, had many interests in her golden years, as do I now at 76. It is so important to keep ourselves interested and interesting, even if we are housebound. I have subscribed, from Gold Coast Australia.

I’m 64 with osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia that encompasses a host of symptoms, including pain. So I totally understand your mothers pain, too. Just a month ago I finally was able to get my pain management doctor on a decent pain medication management. They had me on other not so good pain meds for a few years. They changed everybody’s medication up around six or seven years ago due to the opioid crisis in the US. They, the CDC, thought for some crazy reason that people using their OWN prescribed pain meds were the reason other people were dying from street drugs. That made no sense then, and it makes even less sense now. When all of us in Chronic pain wrote to the CDC define wane understood we weren’t causing overdose epidemic, and what our doctors prescribe us almost like they used to. And oddly enough, I have macular degeneration as well. So far so good, but is there. Take care! ❤

@@triarb5790. I’m so sorry. Dementia it’s just the worst. At my last doctors appointment I told her that I’m just so afraid of getting dementia/Alzheimer’s. She said don’t be afraid of it. It’ll either happen or it won’t. Which I guess is very true. It’s just that it’s in the family and I get Fibro fog from fibromyalgia and sometimes that just leaves me to think about dementia. It’s not at all the same thing but still, that’s where my brain goes. Take care!❤❤

Drumming (he made his own drumkit), photography, watercolour, woodwork, playing the recorder, birdwatching, gardening, you name it. Above all he was a great inventor and made many amazing toys for me and my brother when we were little, as well as clever tools for the kitchen and garden.

Your education and years of teaching speak for themselves, and your years of artwork with stained glass and fused glass speak for themselves in a different spectacularly beautiful way. Thank you so much for showing us your journey because I know it's inspired myself and others. We each have a path we travel throughout life, and that path diverges many times. That divergent path doesn't have to mean travesty, but can mean a new lease on life with new opportunities. Your fused glass is the most beautiful artwork I've seen in a long time!
