I do a similar thing with mine. I have one K&N and a paper filter. I use the paper for a day or two after oiling the K&N to let that oil soak in really well. Works like a charm. Good luck.

Good video bud. Iv been running’s K&N for bout 150k miles now in my Dmax and love it but as often as we gave to service man it’s an ordeal to clean dry oil then dry….. it’s usually a few hours process to do it right. Mr TN is a freaking genius….. hadn’t even thought about buying a 2nd one to have ready on hand. The day after he posted that video I went and got another one. You boys be safe I’m heading back to Indy in the morning

My experience with K&N filters is not near as good as the comments on this video. I ised one on a gas pickup and found it collapsed, not dirty, just flimsey and sucked in to where the filter was not where it was supposed to be so the dirty air had direct access to the engine. A friend of mine that runs a cummins on dusty NE roads completely dusted his engine using a k&n, every cylinder had blowby by the time he knew there was a problem. You said "i can darn near see through this filter so it must flow better"...youre right, it does flow better, because it doesnt filter. YMMV. I think a highway truck would maybe be ok, but i would NEVER use a k&n on a diesel in dusty conditions. I have a 18' dmax and use only hastings or oem paper filters. Best luck, i love your videos.

Thats the right call Dont oil it … we drive a lot difetent environments conditions keep it dry so tou wont get the oiled dirt colected in there So just wash it frequently Cummins has the air box down pipe on the oil filter access for a reazon I guess You have to remove the top of the box lid to get the down pipe out of your way to change the filters .. ( the right way ) So thats your chance to take a look to the air filter right there 💪

Great video! You are spot on with oil getting on the MAF. You can't just clean, re-oil, and throw that thing back in there! Here's my .02 on K&N (not that anyone is asking)....they are great performance filters for airflow, but as John commented, I don't think they are that effective at engine protection. I've always told folks they are good for keeping rocks and small children out of your engine. LOL. Another way to look at having to constantly purchase "throw-away" filters like AC Delco or WIX....that's just another business expense you can write-off come tax time. I wish AMSOIL still made their dry, reusable filters.

Thank you! I've never tried the amsoil. that's a good point. I can see where they wouldn't filter as good as the AC Delco because there's just not as much filter there.

I'm not sure but I don't think the k&n will filter the fine dust out like the factory one does.

Your probably right. Just looking at the 2 filters the factory is definitely going to filter better

@@CFarmer Supposedly they filter better as they become dirtier. Just not sure I trust them. I've used them on quads and have found dirt in the air box beyond the filter. Good luck. I enjoy your videos. Thanks.

@@CFarmer I noticed when you removed the throwaway filter it had what appeared to be household central air filter in front of the paper throwaway. Why couldn’t you do the same with the K&N? I hope this isn’t a stupid question as I’m not familiar with Diesel engines but gunna have to learn

You did the rigth thing to use a k&n filter . I do recomand i have on all my cars and i see the difference and my engine drives smoth and last very long also is good so save the planet

Not a good filter if your in dirt and a lot of dust. If your in Town or just stay on the highway it’s a good filter but not if you go off road or in dusty environments. It’s not good for your turbo.

Really bad idea, K&N is a performance company. Allows too many particulates into the combustion chamber. We drive through construction zones while they saw cut concrete, we drive through dust storms and even the occasional dirt road behind other cars. Want to insure you won't get 500K out of a motor? That's one of the ways.

I tried one on my 2020 and it gave me a check engine air filter message that won’t go away now. Dealership said to go back to a paper filter or the engine will go into derate. Have you heard of this?
