This is crazy that you you posted this video today! I’ve been following you for well over a year. I’ve not once been curious about the heart rate monitor until I finally asked a buddy about his last night after rolling. Then I saw this today…

Yes! The BJJ community needs to know about this. I've been tracking for a few years now and having an idea of the work you put in to a session to see how hard you went when it comes to HR zones and calories is super helpful. Garmin has similar options with their fitness trackers. Good way to see recovery needed afterwards as well.

@@joshfontanella I've tried all the coospoo ones on Amazon and they all died on me in 3-6 months. The one I have now works the best but if it's not positioned my chest perfectly it doesn't pick up my HR. I'm honestly looking for a better solution like the whoop armband (except those aren't free and kind of pricey). I have the GARMIN HRM-Dual right now. It works, and is $70 when I've already spent $90 on three cheap ones that broke quickly. Good luck. If anyone has suggestions on more reliable HR data devices I'm all ears. Best thing is I can use my watch I already have to connect to it.

I noticed on your readout you have some drops to zero where it’s losing connection to your phone. Usually happens when someone is on top of you and the signal is smothered. You can set it to store your training on the monitor itself and then download it afterwards. Then you have no gaps. I have recently had some issues with mine dropping pairing mid workout though, which is irritating. I think it is because mine is 4 or 5 years old.

I just used the Polar HR for the first time and the same thing happened to me, it lost connection on several occasions. It is still interesting, as I had never been able to control the amount of calories to burn during the roll, as well as the frequency of my heart. It is a great help. I still recommend it👍🏻

@@Chewjitsu Hi Professor, I believe that is the name of the nerve condition that your physical therapist was referring to when treating you. The lateral femoral cutaneous nerve becomes inflamed. Your physical therapist mentioned that this condition often develops in women that wear tight yoga pants, but many men develop this condition also due to tight pants, or trauma. In your case, you mentioned working mount with your opponents framing on a regular basis, inflaming the nerve. I hope you have fully recovered. I enjoy your videos, and learn a lot. Thank you. You said after several hard training sessions, the next day your HRV is elevated and when you get to the gym your heart rate goes up quicker. I think you meant to say your HRV was lower. Low HRV is a sign of high stress and physical strain and other factors (i.e., alcohol). High HRV represents a good recovery.

That’s awesome 👏 - I hear woop bands work well, but you pay monthly and that adds up - I was in the market for a new watch anyway a few years back and after some research and investigation I bought a Garmin Forerunner 745 with a HRM that work well together - I get lots of useful data and wear it just about every time I train - leave the watch in the bag and the HRM stores the data (but many HRM will not record and save - gotta buy the right one).

@@guitarnoob77 works for me and I love that I don’t pay monthly (save $$), but need to get the right HRM that stores data (yellow band on top) - uncomfortable at first but I got used to it and just had to fiddle with my weight setting to get a calorie count within reason - made for running/swimming so may not be as accurate for calories as whoop. I’m happy with it. Even tells your altitude & speed & HR average/max, etc. How long in each HR zone. Just need to make sure Bluetooth pairs with watch & HRM - keep phone & watch in my JJ bag while wearing HRM under rash guard.

I’ve been wearing the H10 for about a year during class/rolls. I’ve never had it interfere with myself or partners till last night when I was getting body lock passed, heavy head pressure into my chest and the monitor popped half off and poked my partner in the eye. I've a question about the chest strap. When your sparring partner applies strong chest to chest pinning pressure (or the sparring partner is just heavy), does the heart monitor get uncomfortable being pressed into your solar plexus? I'm debating whether to get the Polar chest vs bicep monitor. The chest one is cheaper and has better reviews, but I'm worried about the discomfort.
