I've been using Polar Verity Sense for a month already. What I have found is that a biceps is not a good place for it when I, for example, do boxing or weightlifting sessions, because of a muscular traction. I use it on the forearm of my second hand (a Polar recommendation) and place it away from brachioradialis. I have nothing to compare, unfortunately, but I experience less weird jumps of an HR curve in this case.

Thank you this was helpful. Because i ordered the Verity earlier today. My need is to check my heart rate when I'm with my trainer doing weights, Tabata or other exercises. Plus my non-training days where i do cardio yoga etc. I debated on getting the chest strap but thought the strap mat irritate under my sports bra. Do you know. Is it possible to use the Verity against my chest where my sports bra acts as the strap? Thanks again for the tip...

I was going to suggest exactly the same. Forearm seems to be a better place to put the sensor in when you do weightlifting exercises. It will be great to have this analysis, to see if data now is more accurate. Btw this is a great video. Thx for your work.

i think using the term "ecg" while only comparing heartbeat average readings' accuracy and hysterisis zones between optical sensors is quite misleading. if we can not derive quantized wave pattern graphs from these sensors we should always emphasize heart beat rate monitoring is different than sinusoidal rhytm pattern analysis, just my 2 cents. please keep up the effort bringing latest model devices to the portfolio, your ongoing standardized comparison is much appreciated and one of a kind!

I've been watching your videos for a long time and this is the best wearable I've saw in tracking weight lifting because most of the wearables fail here. I mean yes, it struggled, but it caught the overall trend better than anything outside of the Apple Watch. It detects cardio sessions extremely well.

The graph @2:46 is genius 😍 As the accuracy is very différent between cycling and weight training, maybe you could have included separated graphs for those 2 activities? We could have a confirmation of the good results on the bike/bad ones with the weights 😉 I have a Polar OH1 and happy with that, but the battery life gets poorer and poorer so I consider buying a H9 strap. Thanks again for this great review 👌

Great to see your informative, thorough and reliable reviews. For swimming the Verity Sense is used against the temple for greater accuracy. For weight lifting, perhaps you could consider wearing it with a headband and remeasure for a comparison.

Agree, would also be nice to see accuracy during leg only weightlifting exercises when you use the verity on the arm. That would clarify whether the inaccuracy is due to placement on active muscles or weightlifting itself. On his apple watch 7 review, the watch is on his wrist. would be nice to see weightlifting comparison between apple watch 7 and verity placed at wrist.

It would be very interesting if you were to rerun the test for weight lifting doing dumbbell squats, bicep curls and chin ups. Use the H10 as a reference line but this time hook the two optical sensors to a head band at the temple to avoid arm movement interfering and/or to your waist band to pick up femoral artery activity. I have an OH1 arriving in a few days and am eager to compare it to my Garmin Fenix watch attaching the OH1 to a headband while doing a sprint routine on a treadmill.

Do you have any thoughts on why the 'wrist worn' Apple watch, which is subject to all the problems of all other wrist worn sensors, is yet able to achieve the accurate results of the H10? Is it superior sensors which cost a lot that makes the difference, or is it the algorithm that processes the signals from the sensors or is it the circuitry that it all runs on that makes lag time a non issue? What are they doing that other watch manufacturers are not doing? Does Apple say?

I have both, and in my experience, comparing it to the Polar H10 chest strap, the Coros armband is more reliable in its measurements and significantly more responsive in most situations. I'm saying this after only two workouts, but this is what I've observed between yesterday and today. Honestly, the Coros surprised me; it responds almost instantly to changes picked up by the Polar H10, with perhaps a 1 or 2-second delay, which is excellent. I have a Garmin Fenix 8, and it takes a bit longer to react-around 3 seconds-though it’s also very reliable. The Polar Verity Sense takes between 2 and 3 seconds to react, similar to the Fenix 8, but it’s not as reliable. At lower heart rates before starting an activity, it tends to stay 2 or 3 beats per minute higher. So, the Coros is extremely reliable and also reacts very quickly. As for comfort, the Coros is much more comfortable due to its curved shape. The Polar is a bit uncomfortable because of the rounded edges mentioned in the video. Also, the Polar needs to be turned on manually, which is slightly more tedious than the Coros, which activates automatically when you put it on. However, there’s one significant advantage of the Polar: its ability to transmit PPI data to connect with HRV measurement apps like Kubios or Elite HRV. The Coros cannot be used with these apps. For people who want to monitor their recovery, this is a crucial feature. I use a Polar chest strap for these types of measurements since they are more accurate, but if you don’t have one, it might be more interesting to opt for the Verity Sense. Even though it doesn’t respond as well to sudden HR changes and may not be as effective overall, it’s more versatile and can be used with apps like these to track training recovery and also monitor sleep quality during the night with professional apps like Sleep2. In conclusion, I prefer the Coros because it’s super reliable and reacts quickly, but for others, the Polar might be more appealing due to its ability to record workouts on the device itself and its PPI data transmission capability

Hi Rob I recently discover your channel and thanks for all the data and analysis you made, they are top hi level analysis and as engineers I LOVE it! Can I ask one think, GTR 4 ou TRex 2 are capable to sync with VeritySense? Because I just want good tuning readings, cycling readings and swimming readings, and VerySense I almost good as H10, but for me maybe more comfortable in the arm than in my chest. So I’ve decide to change my GTR 47 because GPS aren’t good for new one GTR 4 or maybe T-Rex 2, but I am just to make sure, if you have it to test, sync VerySense with one of those good and no so expensive smart watch’s.

@Asthbendriel
@Asthbendriel 2 жыл бұрын
No, they perform worse, but it's not a problem of the sensor itself, but the position of the sensor in the body. The wrist is further away, introduces more noise to the signal, is a smaller area to collect data, and other factors makes it far more complicated to read data from the wrist rather than the arm or the forearm. In exercises like running, walking, biking and similar where there is little movement in the upper body and the wrist they perform quite well (despite the obvious delay in heart rate changes due to the further away position), however in exercises that involve tension on the wrist like weight lifting, they perform very poorly, measuring half of the HR quite often.

Great Video !! But I don't see a problem with weight lifting, because you can put the verity sense even in your face (thats what was told in another video I've seen, because there is a clip for diving goggles to put it on your eyes temple) or on your legs or other party you don't use at the moment of weight lifting 😄

How about testing in cool weather? This spring when temperatures were about 40F I learned that my watch gave crazy numbers as I'd start a bicycle ride, and then after a while gave plausible numbers. That sent me to the internet to learn about the problems in cool weather. I'll probably get an arm band device, but it would be good to know if any of them are better than others in cold temperatures.

I'm looking for a HR sensor with memory to record surfing without a receiver nearby. I've tried the whoop 4.0 but for the price, the accuracy and limitations of the app, not to mention the cost, i'm returning it within the first 30 days. Ideally i'd like a chest strap because surfing can be a very peaky activity with long rest periods and then a frenzy of activity. The garmin chest straps would be great if they weren't slaved to a garmin watch and the bulk on the sternon is a big nono when leaning on a surfboard for paddling. anything you can recommend that's better than this polar arm strap? Polar lately made a firmware update to increase the battery life from around 20 hours to 30 hours without a change on the hardware. Is the Verity Sense a new hard ware developement at all? Or is it only a Polar OH1 with a modified firmware, which lowers the sampling rate to increase the battery life? This would decrease the accuracy. If so, it seems not affect the accuracy measurement which is presented in this video.

Is it just leds that they use that make the difference? Their configuration? Algorithm? Garmin Fenix is also in completely different price category, but it doesn't help :) Maybe Venu 2 will change something, but still... Apple is so accurate for many years and I don't think they produce leds used themselves.

I have a 5 seconds lag between my thoracic belt and my Verity sense. It's very disappointing for me.

I've got Polar Pacer Pro and H10. With H10 my gym training or running is showing a lot more effort like 10-20 more average heart rate which is huge in term of how was my workouts and recovery during the week by week. I need to know if the verity sensor is better than watch? If so by how much?

Hello. Both H10 and Verity Sense is much better than the Polar watch (I have Vantage 3 for reference). I am not a scientist but mad some comparison and had obvious signs just looking the data. If you really care about your HR (and use the data for effort comparison, etc) use H10 but if Verity Sense gives more comfort for a trade off during resistance training (see it also in the video) it is even better than the watch alone.

Hi Rob, and everyone. Have you been thinking about testing the effect on your sleep of a grounding bed sheet? I watched The Grounded (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYO6YYuFZ92KpJY) and decided to give it a try. I feel I sleep better, but I have no way to measure my sleep (hence my presence here) yet.

Have you tried Verity Sense and OH+ on the forearm?

Hi RRR, no I haven't. This was for me the easiest place to test it, but it would be interesting indeed. Why do you prefer the forearm?💪🏼

@@TheQuantifiedScientist I would think that the foream muscles are less sollicited, at least for weight lifting... Congratulations and thanks for your time and efforts doing these tests in a proper scientific way. Still searching for a reliable but less expensive watch for sleep tracking than the Apple Watch or the very smalll Fit 2.

I have H10 my problem with this device is when I go to swimming and once I finish and sync with polar flow application my data is not complete, it show only summary of the training but don’t show heart rate over time data. I wonder is this same for OH1 and Verity Sense?

@@manojlogulic4234 Yes, you don't need to have the app on ,just turn on record on the polar Verity Sense strap ,then when you want to see the data turn on app and sync . It will show your heart rate on their chart in the app .I do it all the time. Remember ,the polar Verity Sense strap records your data even if the app is off or on and you don't even need to have your phone with you on a run or biking etc ,only when you want to sync data to polar flow app on phone. As soon as you hit record it monitors your heart overtime continuously until you stop it. I even wear it to sleep sometimes . Chart shows heart rate overtime. I do it all the time.
Your smartwatch is lying to you
