I think you are right to be protective of your subscribers and wary of the promotional content you put on your channel as many other car channels are not very subtle about the way they do things and can put people's backs up. That said, I thought this video was very good. The wife was watching the Hankook part of the video as well and said that she finally properly understood what the markings were all about. You do have a talent for explaining things and every right to maximise your revenue from this channel. This video shows you're thinking along the right lines and I wish you all the very best for future collaborations.

Interesting video Peter. I dont see any problem with it, and the end of the day its your channel and you put in the hard work to make it a success. We all think we are experts but a little reminder now and then doesnt hurt, who knows we may even laern something new, I know I have just from this video alone. I also liked the other video regarding slip diffs. Its good that there is variety. All too often when following other You Tube channels is always very much the same thing over and over, buy a car, modify it, wrap it, flip it start again. Dont get me wrong I do like some of these as well, but after a while you wish there was something more. Keep up the fantatstic work mate.

My thoughts are that you are very right to protect us as your subscribers, you’ve worked extremely hard bringing us your excellent content and it’s your channel not a channel that flaunts videos to advertise anything within the motoring world. Your content is always very concise and informative so the video you did for Hankook tyres sits completely well within your channel. Well done and it was a very informative watch, I was only teaching my young boys (your super peddler’s) about their bike tyres, so they enjoyed the watch about car tyres and this also taught them the importance of road safety. One thing I would find good to watch is if you were given the opportunity to perhaps provide us with an insight into engine oils; you look out their and with so many different types and specifications of engine oil it’s perhaps for some a bit of a mind field. Also try and bring footage which I know would interest myself is watching an engine work where you can the oil working. I think this would be something fascinating to watch as you see your engine but never actually what the oil is doing. Just an idea and a thought that’s all. Keep up the excellent content and a channel that’s always a first watch when we log into You Tube. Oh and our second choice is Lego, if you get any car kits, throw these our way please lol .

If you change tyres in pairs, keep the same brand and tier of tyre across all axles. If you're going to change brand or go for a cheaper tyre in a lineup, change all tyres at once. I'd say premium All-season tyres are good enough for the average conditions for most of the UK for those who may not have the resources for 2 sets of tyres (summer and winter) for their car. A lot of people in the UK could probably manage through winter with summer tyres, they just need to take it a lot easier when it's below 7 degrees Celsius and avoid driving when it's 'significantly' (for the UK) below freezing and/or when snow is laying, You might as well be driving on plastic tubes at that point. The channel 'Tyre Reviews' has a video where they use a M2 mixing pairs of premium and budget pairs of tyres across axles. Premium front, budget rear resulted in the car swapping ends in a fraction of a second on damp tarmac, even with all your assists active without trying to accelerate through the corner.

Very informative video, Pete. One question, why is tyre rotation not really a thing in the UK? Whenever my cars in America go in for an oil change/service (every 8000-9000 miles) the delaership rotates the tyres. But tyre rotation has never been offered to me in the UK. Why is that? I recently bought a Mini JCW to use when I'm in the UK (about 4 or 5 months per year) and fully intend to get the tyres rotated annually so they wear evenly and change them all at the same time when they wear out.

@PetrolPed5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this Andrew. Interesting point about the 3mm. In view of your new relationship with them, it may not be possible to do one now, but it would be useful to have a report on the different major tyre brands - their strengths & weaknesses, what market they aim for, why car manufacturers fit which brands as original equipment etc. What do you think? Great video, well presented. There are a lot of car channels out there that talk a lot obout the 'what' - but very very few talk about the how and the why. For example you mentioned 93Y - What: is 93 - load rating How: does Hankook alter the design of the tyre to achieve higher load ratings Why: is this (becomming more) important: growth in (heavy) SUV's, growth in EV's that are inherently heavier due to the batteries etc You could put your racing knowledge to use by moving beyond the 'it's a geat handling car' and get the car up on a ramp, and show how it's a great handling car. Appretiate that attention span is an issue - but I think there is a gap in the market for depth (pun intended)!!

I had continentals switched to hankook when I got stuck in a parking lot on a snowy night, with the continentals had to push the car down the road while it was plowing the snow and no traction had a baby in the car as well. Got hankooks next day and then a blizzard hit a month later I drove 40 miles through the blizzard never once losing traction or getting stuck with people relying on me to get them home safely. I am now going to buy another set but the PT I have the ST. So you cannot go wrong with the kinergy st. Personally I think it is fine so long as it is always clear if something is an objective (as possible...I want another car!) review or an advert/promotion. Just in the same way print mags have to say "Advertisement" at the top even though the advertisers style their ad to look very close to the style of the rest of the mag !

Good for you to be able to increase your income from your channel. Totally applaud you. Before you get in any deeper consider how you would react to a sponsors scandal. Go back in time to year 2000 and swap Hankook for Bridgestone. How would you react, what does your sponsorship / promotional contract let you say on your channel to a scandal not of your making? Hopefully you can still be honest and open with us peddlers.

would be great to see if Hankook could improve the miserable Tyre problems the F1 is suffering at the moment, nothing against Pirelli but they don't seem to be getting it down onto the tarmac the same way that the Asien race serise do.

Allow me to also mention tire date codes, partly for people buying second-hand vehicles. The tire date code is in a little lozenge shaped stamp on the sidewall. It currently (post Y2K) shows 4 digits, the first two are the week up to 52 and the second are the year. So 0118 means the tire was made in the first week of 2018 . I would hope that on-one is running tires older than Y2K! I had an eight year old tire on my latest motor and changed it right away. The other on that axle was nearly new. And yes, I got the same brand and tread pattern as the other one. For more info on this subject, www.atseuromaster.co.uk/consumer/category-header/tyre-advice/tyre-safety

No mention of manufacturer specific tyres (eg the star on BMW & MINI tyres) - or whether it is advisable to change front wheels to rear half way through tyre life to even out the wear. otherwise entertaining as always!

I only had 5 mins and agreed the areas to cover. Clearly we had to leave some stuff out 😥

@@PetrolPed - As Hankook are the only 'Budget' MINI approved tyres, I was waiting for a comment about a star on the sidewall - really like your MINI stuff esp LOHEN!

Good video and no probs with you advertising when youre up front about it, so long as youre not bangin on about how great something is cos youre gettin paid for it. Gotta argue about the wheel tracking tho. I used to work at ATS and we were ordered to tell every single customet their tracking was out (which of course it is on every car slightly) and needed doing. I'd estimate that 1in500 was actually out bad enough that it would make any difference. Its a scam.

Ouch...why I never go to ATS or Kwikfit 😜😂

I guess it makes content, but when you receive a press car you are not going to criticise it, so it not really an impartial review.
@PetrolPed5 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Look back on my reviews of press cars and I am more than happy to talk about the negative stuff. I recently criticised the Porsche 992 C2S for being too expensive. That was my first car from Porsche UK but that didn’t stop me. Press teams want your honest opinion and never tell you what you can or can’t say. I always try to be impartial 👍

Sorry Pete,I've watched so many of your video's and they have all been great, but when you say you protect your channel and then sound like a salesman which you have done well to always avoid even when using a 'certain' mini preparation company you done it very well. In this video you really do sound like a salesman, whilst credit given have made some very good and valid points, but please don't pretend, yet why you have done what you've done but this last video is so scripted it's painful, shame loved watching previously.

The difference between this and my Mini modification videos is that Hankook paid me so I am duty and legally bound to tell you. The video was aimed at being an information film or a sales pitch.

I fail to see the need to deliver information about tyres while driving on a public road. You are constantly looking away from the road to the camera.

Check out VINwiki for a good idea of how to ensure you have relatable sponsors although possibly ignore the Vincero Watches akin to to Carguy UK's sentiments and adapt as appropriate for yourself, your audience and (y)our location.
