As I'm uploading this video, I'm busy setting up my new 3D printer which will be my creative outlet for gold related inventions for the next year. I have too many ideas I want to try out right now, so I'll be focusing on the basics and learning how things work. Let me know any ideas you have, especially ideas for how I could make a better sluice study that actually answers everyone's questions on sluice mats once and for all.
Thanks for watching!

Grats to Carol and yourself for the move to Oz. Rumor has it that Oz has bunnies whose tracks dwarf the bunny tracks that you and Chris saw next to the NSR in November 2023. Sounds like you will have a blast with your 3d printer. My son made a small lightweight, 6 inch wide by 36 inches long highbanker for me last summer. Will be testing it again this summer after he makes some adjustments to the legs of it.Thank you for posting

Glad to see you have arrived and getting settled in !! I look forward to whatever comes for utmost outdoors. A thought for possible uses for the printer (and potential tests), is there a better riffle design for gold pans instead of the standard, 3 or 4 step riffles common in most every pan ? Maybe a slanted V design, etc ?

as a purest I use an old steel pan with no riffles and use combinations of techniques .One that I have seen no one use. But it is very difficult to put into words, but works well for flour gold

you can create vacuum in two ways with water and if that can recycle with stacking suction holes 1/3 from diameter off the throat all around the pipe,cause a venturi is 3D and put a bigger pipe over it for the inlet suction and do with pvc.with that you vacuum dry ground in an inline bucket. It's also an airco, cause the water is getting colder and colder by the rotation.

I dont think there is a best mat, they all work if you get them dialed in. slope, water flow, and clean out intervals. I think that for Alberta gold you need a mat that holds on to as much black sand as possible when your at the river and separate it at home. Your choice of expanded and miners moss is tried tested and true for holding a lot of black sand so if your not lazy it is the best choice for NS river gold in my opinion.

Hey Kyle, I think you should make an Elutriation Tower. The only one on the market is the Golddrop and it is over $2000. I can make one that works out of PVC and Clear Acrylic tubing for about $50 that works really well. With your tinkering skills you could make a great one for $150 and have a market.
@UtmostOutdoors
@UtmostOutdoors 5 ай бұрын
I think an elutriation tower would make for a cool experiment, but I don't personally see a practical purpose for one. When you classify very precisely they work based on particle size, but in the case of Alberta gold case the black sand and gold at the same size are shaped very differently. so a 50 mesh piece of black sand is round and actually may fall just as easily as the same size flake of gold that is flat. Might work well on local Australia fine gold, but then a cleanup sluice seems to do the trick just fine.
@randydixon9512
@randydixon9512 5 ай бұрын
Maybe that is why there is only one on the market and you are right on the weakness it has. You already have a good system but classifying is easy though and if you look at settling rates and flatness (Corey Shape Factor in studies) 2X classification will separate even round hematite from very flat gold (20, 40, 80, 160 mesh). Elutriation is quicker and more efficient but you wouldn't run each mesh size every cleanup. I think it pairs well with a Miller table since the gold that rolls off the Miller table is ideal for elutriation and vice versa. Also, like a shaker table you have a separate middlings cons which will hold sulfides (not something I worry about but some do). It would be interesting to see your Miller table tailings run through and E-tower. I think sluicing is probably still easiest but an E-tower will beat a blue bowl or spiral.
@UtmostOutdoors
@UtmostOutdoors 5 ай бұрын
@@randydixon9512 That's a good analysis. I like the idea you could run both a Miller table and elutriation column to hit both shape profiles. Smart.

Welcome to the land of Oz, I'd imagine this will take a bit of getting use to, especially landing in the midle of summer. Unfortunately your in one of the most restricted states for prospecting, down here in Central Victoria the laws a lot better, allowing trommels, highbanking and panning, with hand tools only, so that means no dreadging, and you can metal detect just about anywhere. I'm sure you'll get plenty of invites out, so just reach out to other youtubers and they'll put you on the gold. Cheers Pete

Are you familiar with Dimagnetism and gold? A magnetic field will slow or repel a moving piece of gold, but it has to be moving. There have been a couple attempts to use this to process gold but none seem to work. My idea for an experiment is to remove the magnetics from cons, run the rest in an elutriation tube with either a strong magnet or electromagnet and the gold should be slowed or completely stopped while the rest of the material flows past. I don't know if it makes a practical difference but it is an original method? technique? that I have never seen done before.
@UtmostOutdoors
@UtmostOutdoors 5 ай бұрын
I have seen some people try using magnets like that in their river sluices. I guess they have one magnet at the head of the sluice on top to remove black sands from the flow, and then a separate magnet further down the sluice to try and slow the passing gold to force it to drop into the matting. I guess I just decided to go the route of wider mats with lower flow rates and found the recovery was good enough using just water. I imagine that the effect would be present in anything conductive, so even if you magnetically separated your concentrates, depending on what minerals you found in your area, the diamagnetism might effect both gold and the other heavies. If you are having a lot of trouble with final gravity separation using just water, perhaps the concentrates could be run through a ball mill (cement mixer) and crushed a bit, then re classified for a re-run? I just never saw enough losses with the setup I was using back in Alberta. We will see what situations I run into here. :)
@randydixon9512
@randydixon9512 5 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's just a cool thing to me, I don't think it is practical or at least it isn't necessary. I think clean up recovery for free gold is in the 98-99% range already, no improvement is really necessary, though processing time needs improving. I've also designed an "improved gold pan" although that too isn't necessary, its just fun to think about these things.

Welcome to Australia! Just go with if its a spider or a snake it can kill you and you will be fine. Out of all the states NSW has the worst gold prospecting laws. Basically nothing mechanical no electric or petrol water pumps. The better setups are gravity feed water highbankers/ sluices and rocker boxes.

@@UtmostOutdoors i honestly thought these trips to Australia were for your highbanker. I suspected you were consulting with gold rat (they have a hq in QLD) were going to produce it to sell 😅. Panning and detecting is good in NSW also snipping. I forsee a gravity fed highbanker in your future a 4-6" inlet sized down to a 1.5" hopper. Not sure on the boat prospecting here. I live in vic and prospect the middle eastern golden triangle. If you ever come down i am happy to take you out and camera man for you and use my equipment 👍.

It might be a little over your head. Because it also has to do with the gold shape size weight. All that will vary your test you can use the same gold over and over but can you use the same gravel's clay dirt over and over. You are going to have some variance I'm afraid variance I'm afraid no matter what. But it will be interesting to see your results and your machine

@UtmostOutdoors yeah because gold isn't the same and no two areas also you know what I mean different soil types different Rock size classifications different gold size classifications even weights different if it has more silver or copper in it. But it should work. That's why these guys keep fighting and arguing over different matting. Different matting works good in some areas and better in other areas. I've already found that out
