Found your video Steven and it is very informative. As an Australian, I would like to add two points that many people who visit/move to Australia struggle to understand early and can be important to people having a good experience here. Australians can seem rude/racist at times but mostly that is just our sense of humor and us seeing if you are a fun person to be around. If you can take a joke and even better come back with your own joke then you will quickly find you are surrounded by Aussies who will be fantastic mates and when you get to know them then no joke is off limits. Just have fun. The second is the tall poppy. In Australia, while we love to see people achieve success in anything they strive for, there is a cultural thing that if you get too arrogant with your success Aussies will quickly and often viciously cut you back down to size. It does not matter if you have 1 million dollars or just 1 dollar everyone is equal at the barbeque.

You are part of the reason this country is a great place live. After only a year, you love it here, you appreciate what we have and you want to be a positive contributor to this social experiment in multiculturalism. I have mates from at least thirty countries, my ancestors were from 4 different nations, in my neighborhood there are about 18 nationalities represented. I live in a little cul-de-sac, in suburbia, if I go to the local shopping center I see every shade of the brown scale living in peace. This is how the world can be. I regularly ask people of other than European descent of they have experienced racism. To date, none have even thought for a minute that this is a racist nation. What they are is impressed with the future their children now have, living here, the quality of their lives and the depth of opportunity they have. I live in the Gold Coast area, kids here have surfing as a sport option at school. That just blows parents away when they see that anyone, from anywhere, of any shade or religion, can go to school and do surfing as a sport, not to mention pretty well anything else as a sport as well. Australia is about lifestyle, we aren't competitive with the rest of the world, we aren't really even competing with each other. We just want to live without problems, comfortably. Our family safe, our kids well educated, healthy and fit, medical support as needed and also of a world standard, and the ability to jump in our car and go for a drive on decent roads. When we get to our destination we need a great place for a Barby, clean water to cool off in and facilities close by in metro or hinterland areas. Australia is not a nation, it's a way of life, made up of people from everywhere and the people who have always been here. I was raised in an area that was predominantly Aboriginal and Islander, I learned so much from them, old wisdom, local legends and stories of a time elsewhere forgotten. There has been racism, there are racists, however these drongos and bevans don't represent Australia. They represent fear and ignorance exhibited by racists everywhere. Enjoy life here mate, Do a road trip with some mates, it is a quintessential right of passage, learn an instrument, the didge is an excellent option, learn to surf, it does impress chicks, because it keeps you fit as hell, in short, join in the fun. Do whatever you like, that's the idea, welcome to Oz. PS, Sydney sux, Queensland mate, you should explore it all. Melbourne, best lifestyle in the world, Sydney the great metropolitan water feature, yet they all come to Queensland to enjoy themselves, think about that.

Welcome Steve. The reason Australia has quality foods etc is because of regulations, enforcement and the rule of law. Even many Australians miss this point whinging about nanny state at any regulatory imposition, but it pays dividends in quality of food and quality of life. Ditto our OH&S. I'm surprise you didn't mention our health care. I'm very proud of the fact that if anyone, be they from the top or bottom of society, be they Australian or a foreign visitor, if they are hurt or fall ill the Australian health care will pick them up, give them world leading health care and only when the dust has settled will they work out who and how the bill will be paid.

Can anyone name some countries with decent tap water and clean air. Maybe it is just me but Australia has much nicer tap water and lower pollution than other countries I have visited. It is sad to say but the earth is becoming more and more polluted. Clean air and water should be a human right. Sadly it is becoming less of a norm in many countries.

aus is great for a people who come from developing county other than it is not a great country.compared to all other developed countries..australia is 50 yrs behind.still fibre cable has not reached many parts including cities..multi culturalism killed the identity of this country and it caused the selling of the substandard items here .Even produce directly from market are expensive but they keep selling them even after their expiry date which you can never see anywhere in the developed world. UK, america and other great EU are the best ..australia is not that's much good. ..think before you move from any other developed country.

I agree that multiculturalism has destroyed the distinctiveness of Australian cities, just as it has spoiled all western cities. Western cities all now look the same: full of Asians and Africans.. I am old enough to remember how lovely Perth was in the 1970s.

We don't need any more people in Australia. We should preserve our space. The more people, the more air pollution and noise pollution. The more people, the greater the threat to our environment and to our precious wildlife treasures.

Chris Watson Australia is over diversified. Too many people from overseas. I want my country back.
@chriswatson16984 жыл бұрын
@Rick Farrugia Australia is my country and it is also the country of all the other descendants of the migrants that came before Australia got rich. The British started from scratch, establishing a colony and building infrastructure and institutions. Nature built the land, but nature didn't build the power stations or the dams or the water and power distribution networks. We have a higher proportion of foreign born people living in Australia now, than there has been since the goldrushes of the 19th century. Nobody suggests that India or Pakistan or Eritrea need more diversity.

@@anywaytechreview I do not respect humans that mutilate little girls, feet or genitals. I do not respect humans who follow the teachings of a man who advocated wife-beating and fighting the unbeliever. I don't respect the caste system. Why don't you just stay in your own country? And NO we don't have a labour shortage. Australia is a good place because it was built by humans from western civilization, and humans from disgusting cultures were excluded.
