Hey guys, so I've gotten a lot of comments about the audio quality and volume. This video was recorded with a headset mic, and as such the audio sucks. There's not a whole lot I can do about it after the fact unfortunately, all I can say is that my audio is fixed going forward, and sorry y'all have to deal with it in this one. Once again thanks for the support, it means a lot.

Audio quality aside, the delivery of your thoughts and views were pretty awesome. You didn't spoil too much but it's great to see someone recently watch Arcane and have that same feeling of "WOW!" we all felt when it first aired. I dunno if you realized this but it also aired in 3 episode, 3 weekly bursts; similar to a Trilogy.

A note about the music, its not licenced. Its all written for the show, Riot really knows their music XD and as for imagine dragons, the reason they are in the show is because they have supported Riot/LOL for years. They have written worlds anthems before, and actually play the game. A part of the community, so giving them that camio is really cool to me.

One of my favorite things about Viktor is how coded he is as a villain, but then he turns out to be an outstanding guy who just often tends to act before thinking ahead. And not just once, there are multiple parts where you go "oh, so this is where he turns evil", but nope, he still ends up true to his moral compass. It surprised me even as someone who knows his lore (I haven't really played the game proper for years now, but the lore and the worldbuilding is pretty grand) because, while he isn't really evil after the events that take place in Arcane, having multiple writers means that some choose to portray him a bit... less favorably than others.

@ninjatoriumnova2483
@ninjatoriumnova2483 6 ай бұрын
@@lissandrafreljord7913 I don't know if Diana was ever presented as evil. A bit ruthless, sure, and linked with darkness because of the whole moon thing, but it's the Solari who were always shown as genocidal fanatics. Morgana, I absolutely agree, though. Her role is basically that of a whole bunch of mythological figures, like Prometheus, who were punished for helping humanity. Satan, too, not in the "ultimate evil" sense, but as someone who works from the shadows and takes care of those who were hurt by people around them, while teaching them and helping them reach their full potential. Man, I really like Morgana.

With the exception of Legends of Runeterra, Viktor in recent times (even before Arcane) wasn't evil. The old villainous Viktor was replaced with a (humanitarian?) who became so beloved that a cult developed around him. While the cult is somewhat evil (as cults can be, doing evil with good intentions), Viktor himself doesnt like the cult and would prefer if they stop worshipping him and being the way they are. He's more of a "good guy" whose actions have negative consequences, though this all can be retconned... i hope not.

The thing with Heimer is A: He is effectively immortal B: He lived through an event called "the runewars" where mages almost ended the world. Thats why he is incredibly scared of magic. For context, that was effectively a nuclear war using the most powerful known magic. The remnants of the creation of the universe.The mage that saved Jayce was likely Ryze who is now collecting the runes in order to make sure they are never ever used again. As an aspiring writer, I decided to study this show to learn better storytelling and after about a year of learning new things every day from it, I can confidently say Arcane is one of, if not the greatest narrative work ever devised. I've seen it 24 times and I still haven't wrapped my head around every nuance it has to offer. I guarantee that in a few short years, this show is going to reach cultural icon status higher than anything other than Star Wars because a story this good doesn't go unnoticed. Great vid, can't wait for the second half of the story in season 2.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the narrative weight of the fight scene on the bridge during the visual storytelling part. They told an entire shared back story and gave emotional wait to a fight between two characters that hadn't even shared any screentime with each other up until that point, in like 40 seconds, with no dialogue.

Awesome video, I just recently watched Arcane and it was great. One thing I think is done very well, is that everytime Jinx/Powder is on screen, you can see which it is. Jinx has a slim face with hard edges, while Powder has a slightly rounder face and rounder eyes. It is such a small change, that one can miss it but when you realise it, you can see which personality is on screen at any time. For example when Vi hugs Powder after the flare, it is very obviously Powder, but as soon as she sees Caitlyn, you can see her face change and it is Jinx. For me, this is a gamechanger, I have never seen something like that done and they nailed it perfectly. This show is so good and I hope it continues to be.

It is very true that not knowing LoL lore can be good, but knowing LoL to a certain level, adds a lot of additional contexts to the scenes. For example: Jinx vs Echo on the bridge, while it is artistic in it's presentation, there is additional lore context as why it is presented that way, that only people familiar with Echo understands. To most people, it's a really cool fight, for LoL fans, it's both a cool fight and a major fan-service. To give both a great show and one with a lot of fan-service without non-fans even knowing it's fan-service. That is masterful.

So something about heimerdinger (I'm not sure its a spoiler because I dont believe they will really touch on that and its a well known part of Runeterra's lore) : the reason why he's so against hextech is due to the War he mentionned that happened 200 years ago. That war was based off of Runes, which are the most powerful things on Runeterra, and it led do insane destructions and millions dying. Thats why he wants to be so cautious about anything magic related, because he saw how it went when it ended in the wrong hands.

Excellent video. I'm here to gush about my favorite line from the show. In episode 9, in Silco's monologue, he wonders at Jayce's firm directness, "saying "He didn't even haggle." This is a callback to Jayce's first appearance in the show, before we ever see him on screen. In episode 1, Ekko says that he could tell Jayce was a topsider because "He didn't even haggle." Alright, so a cool callback from the first and last episode? Sure that's neat but not the best line in the show, right? Maybe, but I would argue that Jayce's entire character arc can be understood through "haggling." At the start of the story, he is naive is and straightforward. Throughout the second act, he enters the world of Piltover's politics and learns to cut deals, to compromise on his morals to get stuff done. But, in the final act, he realizes that he has lost sight of his dream. He stop haggling, stops compromising and scheming, and simply resolves to do the right thing, no matter what it costs him. At the start of the story, Jayce doesn't know how to haggle. Then he learns, and resolves to never do it again. And all that is encapsulated in one piece of beautiful symmetrical dialogue. (But actually, the best lines in the show are Jinx's last words to her sister. Legitimately perfect. I could gush for days)

It's called an "impact frame", and is often used in anime to exaggerate some kind of impact by reverting the colors for a split second. Arcane is the only time I've seen a 3D animated series use impact frames. Another thing I think people missed was the sequence of Viktor running, in what is a clear tribute to the running scene from "Rocky", where he runs on a harbor with ships in the background, gradually becoming faster, overcoming his weakness. Whoever directed this show KNEW what the fuck they were doing. And holy shit, the art style. Every single frame of this show could be printed out and framed on a wall as an oil painting.

Also, Viktor outrunning the ships is a callback to earlier in the show when he was a kid, he wasn't able to catch up to his toy boat because he couldn't run properly.

Nearly all who play League would echo the same words as your friend. Hell, even I say that I wouldn’t rec it but I both hate and love League (apparently so much that I’m still playing it since season 2). Arcane though? Epic. 10/10. Would slap again.

I got two things to say. First off, I like the lower quality mic because it gives the vibe of "Just a guy wanting to share his opinion. Second, you don't need to play League to understand it's underlying world. The whole premise of the game is that champions throught it's world is being pulled into a arena to fight. And thats how it was originaly intented to be. But those champions also have some damn good lore. Some champions do have shorter lore then some abilities description (I'm not kidding), while others have entire comics and story lines that ties their local world together and the current conflict. If you're not a reading guy, I can highly recommend the lore youtuber Necrit. He has done videos about most of the characters lore and conflicts

Fun Fact: The Snakes song with the Vi and Jayce fight scene is what got me to watch the show. For a while my recommendations were flooded with this show and I didn't want to watch it but that song was so fire I had to.

I remember how a few months ago I was reconnecting with my sister and she was telling me about how she didn’t have anything on her watchlist she wanted to really get hooked on at the time while we were browsing netflix and Arcane, like the true chad that show is, popped up into view. Omfg it was the most perfect moment to introduce Arcane to her and she. Was. Hooked. We got her husband and her eldest son into it to while we were at it. And we watched the HELL out of it. Back to back 3 TIMES. She bought me a lil Jinx figurine for my bday not long after and we all sure asf cannot wait for season 2~ 😎💅 Also, OMG VALID VIKTOR IS MY MOST FAV CHARACTER TOO !!!! Uuuuugh I love him so💕 Arcane is just sO💕 ugh brb imma go rewatch

A note about the animation, Fortiche Studios the one who made the animation, was working for Riot Games since 2013, so they presented this style of animation before the Spiderverse movie in multiple music videos and cinematics for League of Legends

I fear this season has set the bar so incredibly high that what follows it whether it be Arcane or something completely different we will be holding them all to Arcane season 1’s standard. Blue Eye Samurai imho is another most excellent Netflix animation that thankfully meets the bar set (again imo). With that said season 2 is still so far away…I can’t deal.

the concerto scene is fucking INSANE and i wish ppl talked abt it more. jayces placement at the top with all of the politicians while heimerdinger, said to be the only scientist on the board, is down enjoying the art of the people, shows that jayce has made the full 180 and i love it so much

13:00 The scene is so masterfully done. Just as Ambessa says she couldn't endure the look in Mel's eyes as she had to make difficult choices for the family, we as the audience are shown the exact look Ambessa described. You can tell that Mel wanted more than anything for her mother to renounce her warmongering ways, but to hear that the beckoning, pleading look in her eyes didn't just do nothing to stop her mother, but actually spurred Ambessa to exile her own daughter is what drove the final nail in the coffin for Mel. Before this scene, Mel was just another scheming politician chasing status. After this scene, she became a responsible stateswoman who wanted to help the people.

Just sharing, regarding the art style. Before spiderverse was even created, riot/fortiche was already using the style in their cinematics/shorts. Anyhoo, love the review, and yes, 100% agree to never play league if you value your sanity. -just an ex player/lore enjoyer

Just want so say you picked some really, really good shots and scenes for this video. The cinematography and shot composition of the show should definitely be talked about more, it's arguably as if not more impressive than the animation itself.

The animation is actually constantly blending 2D and 3D techniques, it's just not as noticable as the first spider verse movie. All of the smoke, explosion, and particle effects are drawn by hand 2D style on top of the 3D. It's a ton of work for something a lot of people don't even notice, but it has a huge effect on the feel and the style of the show. Also the coloring is done 2D style by the animators painting over the 3D motion. Most of the lighting is done by hand, colored onto the models like a painting instead of modeled in 3d
