The oil on the old 7.3 F-350 is way past due, so it's time I change it. It seems like everytime I do even the simpliest tasks, it ends in a mess. Huge shocker, this "simple" oil change was not so simple. I didn't have a oil drain pan, the filter got stuck on the truck, and I spilled all the used oil next to the recycling container. I feel like I learned my lesson, but lets be honest, in 10,000 miles I'll do it all over again.

Two things that will help you in future oil changes. Your filters do not need to be more than snug, there is no reason to use a filter wrench to tighten a spin on. Also wipe a thin film of oil onto your gaskets, it will keep them from seizing on. Bonus tip make sure the gasket comes off with the old filter. Iv seen a few oil showers heads that were caused by double gasketing.

Hey bud, please please read this. You will continue to go through transmissions until you upgrade your transmission cooler. Get the Mishimoto trans cooler it’s made just for your truck and motor. You have the E40d transmission and despite what ppl say they are a great trans the just had crap cooling from factory. Ignore everybody freaking out about tightening the filter with a wrench it will come off just fine as long as it had a little oil on it. If the truck suddenly won’t start out of the blue check for the tachometer for movement while cranking the motor, if it doesn’t move it’s the crank position sensor, very common issue and with a 10mm wrench can be changed in a parking space in 10 minutes but a lot of ppl end up towing and waistline money diagnosing. Any other issues you have start with icp sensor or ipr valve followed by under valve cover gaskets. Other than that she will run to 500k without a hickup and 750 to 1M if you keep feeding her maintenance. If you haven’t busted a knuckle working on a truck…. Ya ain’t no crabber!!!!

Tips: Used cardboard box; square pad exercise; cheap tarp on the ground to catch any oil spill. Use brake cleaner spray to clean any oil on the oil filter can and oil drain bolt. Always have paper towel or old t-shirt you don't want. Save oil container and put the old oil engine back inside; cut on the bottom empty used oil container to create an oil filter.

as a guy who sells industrial oil filters to machine builders (I've literally sat through oil filter training) i wanted to point out that if you fill the oil filter through the center on a spin on filter before putting it on like at 10:10 that new oil will go straight into the engine without going through the filter first, you better hope that oil has no contaminants in it like the foil seal or grit (probably not but maybe)

Diesels always hold alot of oil. Usually anywhere between 3 to 5 gallons. Because it helps to dissapate heat which makes the engine last longer. Keep in mind your water jackets are up around the cylinders not down around the crankcase. So aside from the oil there's no cooling effect at the bottom of the engine. Alot of people forget that oil also helps cool an engine down.

Luke you have so many motorized units can I make suggestion……write down with a sharpie or marker the wrench size for the drain plugs either on air filter, filler cap or on the oil filter. Most Fords are 7/8” for bigger motors. A quick look will keep you from needing to climb under the truck boat engine or whatever your working on multiple times.…😂 Also suggest getting a magnetic oil pan bolt. That gives you a heads up on any issues with the engine and will catch any micro metal parts floating around the engine. Those Ford diesels will go 300,000 plus IF YOU DON’T SCREW WITH THE TUNING. Get a really good pair of shocks for the front end (maybe spring over adjustable) it will help with tire wear. Ford messed up with that part of truck….heavy heavy front end ( from engine) and did not use good parts up front. Shocks, bushings, tie rods control arms and even steering parts from Ford are inferior to many aftermarket parts. Have had several straight axles Fords and never could get decent miles on tires unless rotate as you said in the video. “You aint a crabber unless you had a few oil baths changing motor filters and oil”…..😂😂😜

I'm currently 3 days into fixing the turbo pedestal on my '00 7.3, and let me tell you it's the hardest thing I've ever done on a vehicle lol.

Twin i beam suspension is good. You just have something off with the alignment. Thats why its eating tires.

2:21 I daily a 1994 f-150 4x4 with the twin traction beam front end and I have a set of tires that haven't been rotated ever since I put them on 2 year ago with 18k miles and they are wearing evenly. Even with open front and rear diffs all 4 of the tires are wearing even never been rotated. You might need an alignment and or have worn bushings or ball joints.

When you fail at crabbing, you can certainly excel in comedy. I love every tool being called a hammer and straighter than Elton John was perfect. You're a funny cat.

7.3's have a tendency to leak at the filter for some reason but just pay someone to change your oil less headache and obviously mess

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve change the oil on my 7.3 I’ve only ever tightened the filter hand tight and it’s still hard to get off. Never had a problem yet.

Does that truck have the "Wait to Start" light on the dash? So the Glow Plugs have time to warm up prior to starting it?
