WHY I NO LONGER RECOMMEND KEEPING MULTIPLE RAINBOW SHARKS OR REDTAIL SHARKS TOGETHER

Watch in “higher picture quality” 720p60 or 1080p60 ! Keeping multiple rainbow sharks or redtail sharks together can be done successfully, and I’ve done it successfully. All of my rainbow sharks/redtail sharks lived together for several years and lived into full adulthood before slowly dying off one by one from old age. I stopped doing it because I wanted space for more diversity in the tank. I have always said “keep them in a group of 5+, have a large tank 100 gallons or bigger (5 feet or longer), and have plenty of hiding places”, but now, I just tell people to ONLY KEEP ONE” no matter the tank size, despite it being possible to keep multiple together successfully. Here is why

I agree totally with ShamuAquatics, I have a 250 gallon tank, 8 foot long, lots of caves and hiding places. 4x Rainbow (1 girl, 3 boys) + 1x Redtail all living well together. Odd 30 second tussle, but never any major issues.

I feel sorry that people only half listened to you :c I am planning to get 1 rainbow once I save up for a 200g! ^^ course I understand its 1 or 6+ and either way I like making hiding spaces for my fish! :3

Good on you buddy. Thanks to your earlier video, I did NOT purchase multiple earlier on, as I could not meet the volume prerequisite. I'm now aproaching it at 320 litres, but like the loner doing his thing. Gives the Saimese Algae Eaters a good work out, so he's not bored! I found it funny that he was quite friendly with our Baler Shark, while he was around.

I used to have 7 rainbow sharks in a 75 gal community tank with plenty of plants, stones, and wood and I had no problems at all. They each had their own hiding place and for the most part left each other alone, besides the occasional chase from territory. But that was all. It worked out really well for me. However, that's just my own personal experience. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. Nowadays; however, I only keep one. And he's in a 90 gal heavily planted community tank with plenty of hiding places. I probably will never keep multiple again, though. Just because it worked out well for me before, doesn't mean it would again. I just don't really want to risk it anymore. My tank is balanced pretty well with just one. He's kind of the boss of the tank and I like it that way.

Welcome to the aquarium world, where a lot of people overstock their aquarium. It's sad honestly.

So two in a 4 ft ain't the best idea ? My LFS said 3 would be fine. Currently 24 juvy tiger barbs + 2 juvy sharks.. 🤔

I have a rainbow shark she just hangs on the bottom and hides. doesn't bother my angels or congos. She chills with my dojo loaches and plecos. She hates neon tetras and gold barbs. She chases them away from her log but she always hides we never see her only at 🌙

Can I have one red tail shark in a 35 40g tank with black Moore goldfish
@ShamuAquatics
@ShamuAquatics 3 ай бұрын
I’d only put a redtail shark in a 40g if it was completely alone. Also, tropical fish should not be mixed with goldfish

@@ShamuAquatics just saying a good temperature with fancy goldfish is pretty much the exact same as red tail sharks between 70 and 80F

@@justinwilson3922 the redtail shark will also likely attack the goldfish. Fancy goldfish are also not very fast swimmers so they’d get nipped up easily

I wish the industry would call them catfish. They are not sharks they are beautiful but not sharks

They aren't catfish either. They are cyprinids, which are minnows. Same basic family as goldfish, koi , and barbs.

It's a shame that people cannot follow the proper advice when it comes to fish. I think it is a problem of people trying to justify the crazy preset idea they already have.
