@@cenanmehmetwell honestly from a business perspective, rooting and cr is bad for the revenue of every phone maker. Some just encourage it because it’s their niche. This. I used to customize everything with my computer or phone when I was younger. Now I just leave it all at default. Change stuff a bit from time to time but nothing major. It becomes to much of hassle to customize your device especially when it’s time to replace it. That’s what i appreciate about iphones, it’s decent looking, no need for major customization. And more importantly continuity and familiarity.

@@neilfordan the good thing is that modern devices are generally better about keeping and exporting your settings and preferences. Outside of banking and encrypted chat backups, didn't even need to re-login for most stuff when I switched from A14 to A55. On the other side, Linux's xdg folders make it so easy to backup and restore most of your stuff, be it manually, with an app, or with chezmoi or nix home-manager. I recently sat down for 8 hours learning how to install custom ROMs and setting up Magisk Hide on my phone. The learning curve is indeed steep, but it's imo well worth the result. My OP7P was stuck on a broken version of Android 12. And ROMs has basically resurrected my phone. It's now faster and smoother than ever with the latest security patches being delivered OTA. And having learned how to install ROMs it only took me 45 minutes to switch from LineageOS to crDroid, which is awesome. Having options of what features you want on your system is awesome. There are indeed the occasional bugs, but the official OxygenOS updates from OP had even more bugs. Other than the steep learning curve in the beginning, I honestly see no problems with custom ROMs. I get more security updates than ever and my phone is much faster

Didn't you know that you can simply uninstall the pre-installed apps that you can't seem to uninstall with ADB? The device doesn't need to be rooted, you just need to connect it to the computer, have USB debugging enabled, go into the adb shell and run e.g. "pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.chrome" (this would uninstall Chrome but it works for all apps).

As a person who prefers a ROM that has 0 bloatware. Well custom roms is always my bet especially on older phones. The best skins in my opinion out there is Samsung One UI and LG UX. I dont like the skins that looked like iOS because i am not a iOS fanboy lol. Maybe if those skins didnt came with bloatware or advertisments then i dont need the custom ROM. Heck yeah bloatware actually ruined the performance but the wort thing is ads everywhere. Thats why custom roms in my opinion runs smoother as always. Typing this using my LG V20 with a Custom ROM (Lighthouse OS) while the LightHouseOS stopped getting updates from its devs but many apps still support android 11 i just disliked Android 12 and newer due to its UI for most reasons. I actually compared it with the Stock OS and surprises the Custom OS runs smoother and faster on this device. It feels like its new again lol.

Stock is fiiiine but having software updates several years after the manufacturer stops supporting it is very nice. Honestly updating is not a problem, if you're running an officially supported rom and some people do have OTAs in their roms even if they are not official. On my Oneplus 7 pro, I press update in settings, and then go into Magisk and press "flash to second slot" to not lose root, restart and its updated. One more step than stock but I won't need to buy a new phone to get Android 15 when it comes out. Also with root, I can automatically backup my entire app data to google drive with Swift backup, so now I dont have to worry if I lose my phone or it breaks, which isnt going to happen every day but it did happen once when my essential ph1 got shattered to bits and it was so nice to just restore my backup when i got my oneplus 7. I didnt have to login to all my apps again and I had all my data right there.

That's the rom source. However, building for a specific device needs device trees which is just a set of different configuration files. THESE are usually maintained by one person, however, they still usually pass around changes and fixes between each other. They're the maintainers. And the issues you described in your video are actually issues with the device trees.

I feel like part of the appeal for custom ROMs still is getting rid of unremovable system bloat (LG's phones came to mind) or that have questionable software update support. If you bought a non-Google branded phone, you could put a custom ROM on it and get close to stock Android (Setting aside LineageOS's customizations). My problem with most Android phones until Google announced they'd do their own in-house SOCs and support them for 6-8 years (So about on-par with Apple), is that you had to sign a legal waiver forfeiting a warranty to even flash a custom ROM to get security updates (Cough cough, Motorola) and to use a recent version of Android, either because the phone manufacturer was too lazy to support a device (A motorola phone I bought instead of using a recent version of Android, used an older version with a hacky gesture navigation implementation) or because Qualcomm wouldn't let them. Part of that is the reason why I refuse to buy a flagship phone with a Qualcomm SOC. Switched from an iPhone 13 to a Pixel Fold after a few years of using Apple and being annoyed by a lot of restrictions and design choices, and outside of gaming performance, I'm already happier with the Pixel than any of the Androids ($150-300) I've had.

Even though most phones have everything you need on the oem rom, I still find it enjoyable to install an os that wasn't made by the company that manufactured the phone. I just wish Samsung just didn't remove oem unlocking from their u.s. models.

I'm currently on a quest to de-google my life and installing a custom ROM is a big part of it as you can't get rid of Google Play Services, which you haven't mentioned. It's not only a huge privacy issue (do not confuse this term with security) as it pings your location every couple of seconds (yes, even if GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are all off) and sends that data to Google BUT it also drains your battery like crazy.

Before i do custom rom, i used the original one that's Realme Ui 2 and have many issues for daily usage and gaming. Such as lack for multitasking, nothing smooth for move apps to another apps, and smoetimes stuttering for gaming. Nowadyas, i decided to to some custom rom, now i use Arrow OS android 12 is just way smoother than the original one. Have a better performance, smoother for multitasking, and many customisation.

leme breakdown this video in my pov 1)the customisation u showed are just tip of the iceberg, there are endless customisation option there that OEM's will never provide 2) 3:10 it actually does use vanilla roms with core gapps 3)4:36 me when i dont want performance jus battery only 2 cores enabled 4)5:56 it depends the phone if development is good it will be fixed asap 5)7:14 most custom rom tends to update monthly regularly (ofc phone should be supported, u saying for a decade old phone -__-) for example rn most cust rom started pushing april security update no wonder oems will take 10-15 days some jus give after 1-2 months 6)7:34 also most custom rom updates are easy af, some provide ota jus like oems or zip file u jus had to flash it over your existing rom in recovery thats it(if u think its tough stay away from custom roms) 7)8:03 yeah its true, im 6 year old xiaomi budget phone (redmi note 5 pro) which xiaomi stopped updates after android 9 in 2020 and thanks to osm devs for maintaining it, rn it has recived android 14 and its running pretty smooth(100 times better than that stock rom) 8)donno whats wrong with some companies who dont share source code of that device and some dont even allow unlocking bootloader 9)8:56 thats true actually modern smartphones are very capable for using 5-6 years even more, i dont understand why not all smartphones companies are giving 4-5 years updates 10)imo using custom gives u full authority of ur phone u can tinker any aspect of it. so custom roms arent dead, nowadays whenever someone whom i recommend any phone icheck fro whether it has cusrom support or not

The reason why phone companies don't update the old phone to newer feature updates that is supposed to be intended only for newer phones is because when an old phone whose capabilities only reached maximum at android 10 only and you introduce it to android 15 or 14 the phone will be unstable in cases of battery / performance etc. It won't be able to synch in with the new features because it's not designed to be. I myself have been using CR DROID a not very popular custom rom the phone I'm using can go on beyond android 14 but I chose a type of cr droid rom wherein android 10 will be its maxed-out update. It's true that I don't have / receive latest security patch but who needs those security patch if you know yourself where to find the right security apps and patches your mainframe board if you know what I'm talking about if not then it's fine because many android users nowadays think they already know deep if they successfully rooted a phone. No, you just scratch the tip of the iceberg. Anyway, the point is you don't need to be dependent on patches PROVIDED by the AUTHOR OF THOSE CUSTOM ROMS because all custom roms have the same security patches mostly google play store or google patches etc. I'm using this custom rom now for almost 2 decades now with no bugs and whatsoever PLUS it is very secured thanks to self-maintenance. You'll be shocked what my phone is lmao. By the way not being rude but your title is misleading, you say its done now in the end or middle of your video you love them lmao.

Sadly custom roms are not stable enough nowadays... My phone (oneplus 9) has a terrible stock rom. 3 to 4 hours battery life, getting hot even just watching youtube on LTE. The worst thing about it Oneplus doesn't care at all. But I used to fix all of these using a rom called Nameless, but they stopped the development. Some other roms exist but full of bugs. Like camera is not working properly, mute switch no longer works etc.

Listen my story: I bought a new phone in 2020 called redmi note 11 pro, i researched a lot, one of my friends had note 10 pro and it was fine and also it was really good deal in my location. It was fine, it had miui13 it was beautiful, setting app was great , etc... Some annoying bugs was exists, first the volte didn't work i guss its my model that dont support it, The 3rd party services that i enable for apps stops randomly and i need to re enable them. Also that f*cking 10 sec slow down when you do something sensetive to phone is wild. Im programmer i know what im doing!!!! I said ok. Around 6 month later miui14 released it was also nice i upgraded to it, but all of the sudden there was a f*cking bug that if i reset my phone i stucks in boot, i needed to hard reset it multiple times to get it up and running. I looked at every article in web and i couldn't find a valid solution. I also said ok fine trust the process. Thay fixed it 5 month ago in new miui 14 update. I said ok im done i never update this phone it's in stable version and everything is fine, so i disabled updates and it was fine since last week. It randomly decided to update to hyperOS, Whyyyyyyy Bro whyyyy Its literally apple Its disgusting I hate using its top panel My old top panel layout is gone i was so used to it in last 2 years. Now also network issues come in. It don't go over 30Mb/s in WiFi. Like i get adsl speed on fiber optic 1Gb/s network :////// Why you idiots (Xiaomi) release such a shitty os and Force update it to anyone. Im just backing up my stuffs asap To choose what to do: 1. Reset factory to MIUI 13 2. Custom rom

No custom OSes are not just stock Android with extra customization. Or at least that's not what it's about for a lot of people. For those who just want extra customization they can just root a stock Android device and do the modifications that way (and if you can't root the device chances are you can't get a custom OS on it either). The main draw of custom OSes in the past 5+ years has been privacy and/or security. GrapheneOS and DivestOS in particular are privacy-focused devices with all sorts of Google communication stripped from it, along with added security features in GrapheneOS in particular. And even other custom OSes like LineageOS has all manufacturer spyware and bloat stripped from it, along with most Google junk and spying stuff as well. No longer using a 3rd party AOSP-based OS is for people who don't care about privacy or bloat. And yes bloat does impact the performance of the device, because the bloat is about services running in the background, not app icons. You can hide app icons if you don't want them there. You can literally have a device with zero app icons showing on the home screen on a stock Android OS if you wanted to (which the video even indirectly pointed out with Nova Launcher hiding icons) With regards to bugs, it's probably more related to not using Google services (even if it was using microG) and/or a device-related issue and/or root level modifications performed rather than specifically using a custom OS. And even if it was related to using a custom OS, that would only apply to that specific OS, not necessarily all the custom OSes. With regards to updates/security, that is only an issue for specific OSes. Some custom OSes such as GrapheneOS are even more secure than stock Android because they implement additional security features. And while they do update regularly, even if you didn't update it would still likely be more secure than a more-updated stock Android merely due to the added hardening put in place (something being old/unupdated doesn't _inherently_ make it insecure). Not only that, but you can get device/OS combinations that have support for longer lifespans; in particular DivestOS is good at keeping older devices up to date as long as the device supports it. But again with regards to updates, you talking about using a OnePlus One. I'm assuming that wasn't your previous device, but even if it was not used since quite a while ago the *device stopped updating 2 years after launch (so up to 2016);* but for those who installed a custom OS on it it would last until Android 11 (LineageOS 18.1), and with security updates up to 2024. Granted this is maybe a somewhat misleading example due to OnePlus One generally coming with CyanogenMod by default and CyanogenMod dissolving, but this same sort of thing can and does happen with stock Android devices as well. Oftentimes switching the device to a custom OS gives it years and years more updates. For instance the Razer phone was released in 2017, using Android 7, upgrade-able to Android 9, but with DivestOS it will still update to the latest version of Android equivalent, Android 13. It's just entirely misrepresenting the fact in this case. For that matter information seemed to be hidden as well (presumably unintentionally) such as what your last phone was, which is important to know regarding updates (since device support lasts for a limited time regardless of the device, and you never mentioned what the support would have been for the device had you not used a custom OS). You even specifically point out for a brief period near the end that custom ROMs can extend updates, so why was _lack of updates_ mentioned as a downside? It's self-contradicting.

Hyper OS still has some bugs, which are not really a problem, just that Xiaomi is painfully slow to update the damn device, the UI doesn't support Material You completely, leaving it awkwardly in the middle of nowhere. And most importantly, Xiaomi blocks the ability to use third party icon packs. As soon as a custom ROM is available, I'm switching. Xiaomi just doesn't seem to understand that people want all features of Android in an Android phone, not a cut down version of Android with just as little features as iOS has. Though I'd give them credit that HyperOS is crazy stable, and ultra smooth. The OS is very energy and resource efficient too.

Here's a lesson from this video: For thoese of you that like custom ROMS, look for any that follows your expectations & make sure atleast it's stil supported by the Custom ROM's developer & add extra features that come from 3rd-party Apps & APKs (that require root, no root or either one option if possible) or if any of you don't like any custom ROM, you just (probably) enjoy using your Android device's stock ROM & if you want to make your device's stock ROM better by adding extra features that you will use, consider downloading any 3rd-party app & APK (that requires root, no root or either 1 option if possible). So in short, choose wisley :)
