Around your trees, use chipped wood or wood shavings. It will keep your fruit trees happier until they get bigger. We do this in the family orchard.

Your little boy is so sweet and precious. My wife and I have 9 grandchildren 10 years of age down to 3 months. I’m glad you spend the extra time to permit him to “help” you. Believe me, these little angels are gifts from God but they grow up much too fast. Of course then you begin all over again with grandchildren, but you always know that you’ll get to take them home every evening.

When it is hot mix the pig feed with water so it is a slop. Then they digest it better and get a twofer. Oh, also put grass clippings from the lawn in your moats and it will slow evaporation and still hold water. Thanks for the Malathion tip. Deer around here don't like Irish Spring soap. Have you tried that as a repellent?
@scottfortune901611 ай бұрын

I used to have a problem with deer eating the leaves, so I took a jar of ground cayenne pepper and poured it into 2 cups of boiling water, 2 or 3 min should do it. Let it cool, poor into a spritz bottle and lightly spray the leaves. The deer will very quickly realize they don't like the taste of your fruit tree leaves. It won't hurt the tree or affect the taste of the fruit. Ground black pepper on the ground around the trees will help also. If it burns your nose think what a deterrent it is for them!

You can take strips of all material much lighter than blue Jean and spray them just keep a spray bottle full of ammonia just dollar store ammonia and just spray them strips any old spray bottle and spray it on there and that’ll keep the deer off them to it’ll keep them out of your garden to.

I planted some small bradford pear trees in my yard. The deer were eating the tops out of. them so I put a half of a bar of irish spring soap in the leg of an old pair of panty hose and tied it in the tree. Deer left the trees alone and never bothered them again. You have to put in a fresh bar about every two months. Depends if you get a lot of rain or not.

I got home this morning and the deer had eaten most of the leaves on 4 trees. I spray mine with liquid 7 and it keeps the deer away for a week or so. Maybe I'll try your method. We used a guy in Columbus to do our pigs last year, and I wasn't all that happy with how he did it. A friend used Daffins and they were happy with the results. It's a hoot watching pigs play in water.

We have the same problem with the deer. We put large netting over the trees but I don't think it is working as it should. Gonna try to give that a shot. We have plum, apple, peach and persimmon trees. Fig trees as well but the deer do not mess with them.
@gitatit404611 ай бұрын
I have several fig trees which the deer don't normally bother, but I have had a few occasions where they did browse on them. I think they prefer other fruits, but they WILL browse on them at certain times. Maybe depends on what's available at times.

We don’t have any issues with the deer coming in and eating from our gardens or trees, our two English Springer Spaniels keep them away even at night, we keep a few windows open and they will bark at anything that moves outside even the raccoons and skunks. Really like the pig setup they will be putting on the pounds very quickly now.

@falllineridge11 ай бұрын
That would probably help the little ones out, the big pigs have a reasonable amount of shade. Thanks to Scotland for watching!

Have you considered raising the little pigs' shelter just enuf to let air circulate/flow through ..... and try to find a spot that is more shaded during the day. also, how come you didn't dig the wallow in a shaded area? That water is gonna heat up in full sun rather than in a shaded spot?

I've an apple tree I planted about 10 years ago and I'm still shocked it survived all the jackass deer rubbing on it. They love solitary saplings, and yeah, they'll eat the leafs on them too. Strangest thing... this season our tree finally put out a really nice amount of apples, but the day before I was going to go out and pick them, something got to them all and stripped the tree bare. I couldn't believe my eyes. Just gone. All 3 dozen or so. I'm guessing the squirrel got to them. God Mother Nature pisses me off. Same for our mulberry tree as well. All the fruit gone in one day.

Hi Wes. I have never seen you use one, but do you have a tiller? I think that at some point the small pigs will be relocated and the tiller might help to get the waller made before the move. How would the pigs respond to a solar powered fan? I think I am going to try the Malathion trick to see how dogs respond to it. Folks let their dogs urinate where they will, and they have killed plants and young trees. Have good days!
@falllineridge11 ай бұрын
It might help! Tiller isn't a bad idea, I've got one (in pieces). I think before they get moved to a new spot I'll take the tractor and dig a hole first.
