We went off carnivore for 6 month while I was going through surgery. Today is my first day of a 60 hour fast and Monday will be carnivore day 1. I’ve been doing this for three years now. My best advice for anyone is to stay away from all seed oils for the rest of your life.

Everyone should do what works best for them. Animal Based is a great way to maintain, you just have to figure out which fruits work for you and which ones don’t. No one way of eating is perfect for everyone and anyone that thinks so, is just ignorant.

I appreciate the more balanced approach. I was carnivore for a few months last year, but then i had a major health crisis with my kidneys and i had to cut back on protein, so i haven't been carnivore since. I truly believe in the benefits of carnivore since i lost 40 pounds in 3 months. I want to start again, but it's so hard to jump back in, especially when i do need to limit my protein. Anyway, it's nice to hear a balanced, non-dogmatic approach!

They tell you to limit protein but do you believe them,? My husband did follow their advice and got sicker and sicker. Just lately they wanted him to do that contrast dye test for his heart. Everytime it tanks his kidneys. And he would have been on dialysis. He has been avoiding protein but just lately he has been mostly meat and eggs and surprisingly his urine is not hardly foamy. Protein doesn't damage your kidneys. Your kidneys are damaged and can no longer recycle proteins efficiently and so you get protein in the urine. They liken it to having little holes in your bucket. Reducing protein doesn't change the holes. It doesn't make you healthier to reduce your protein. Protein is not causing the problem. But limiting your protein will weaken your body more. You actually need more protein because your body isn't as good at recycling protein so you need more to compensate. Kind of like they tell you that you need to reduce your stomach acid for heartburn when heartburn is caused by low stomach acid. I don't trust anything they say anymore. If you do the opposite there is a strong chance you will heal.

No, you can’t. Despite what post-modernism wants you to believe, WORDS HAVE MEANING. If you don’t use words as they’re intended, communication becomes impossible. Carnivores, by definition, eat only meat. Period. You would never make the silly claim that carnivorous animals, such as sharks, would ever eat mushrooms, onions, or fruit. It’s ok not to call yourself a carnivore if you’re not actually a carnivore.

I’m 4-5 months ahead of you in the process. Lost 190 lbs to get past my “goal weight”. My advice would be to careful in adding. I would add 1 thing at a time and see how it affects you. I went from OMAD Lion to just adding eggs and bacon (didn’t even “cheat”) and still gained 10ish lbs just from that. It can creep on fast. I’ve gone back to Lion and adding in 10k steps for now. I know it’s really hard to maintain the peak but I haven’t liked the backslide.

I have lost 133 lbs on carnivore and it has looked different at different parts of my journey. I started March 16th 2023 and reached my goal weight in January 2024 and then lost more. In January I did Lion Diet but did add coffee and flavored LMNT back in later in the month. Now I am probably 88%-95% carnivore. I have dabbled in flavored Liquid Death Sparkling Water and Olipop Sparkling Soda some lately and occasionally had some fruit. I try to keep it ketogenic or at least low carb if I include those things that day. I try to keep any “real” cheating for specific occasions like birthdays of family, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I may make occasional exceptions and get back on plan the next day. That is my commitment to myself is to get back up. Animal based is appealing to me at this point in my journey but I still feel like being in ketosis has so many health benefits that it’s hard to think about risking it with adding carbs. I am tempted to. Give it a try.

I think I am exactly where you are in my carnivore journey: Maintenance Mode. I was over 315 lbs and starting to get terribly sick. It's been 14 months and I've lost over 100 lbs and I feel 100% better. I keep on plan about 90% of the time now, although I treat myself on occasion. I had pizza recently for the first time in over a year. It was satisfying and delicious and then I fasted 16 hours afterward. I didn't have the urge to eat the entire pie. I had a double Whopper with bacon and the heel of the bun today. I ate three french fries and didn't like them, so I gave them away. Went to the Chinese buffet a couple weeks ago and ate mostly meats and about a cup and a half of mein fun noodles. I'll have a small Dunkin' Mocha Cold brew once a week and I stick to that religiously. I had popcorn recently and baby sized ice cream a few times since the weather got extremely hot. For the most part I'm still eating the steak, bacon and eggs. I suppose If anything I'm more of a Ketovore, for now. Maybe in a couple months I'll dive back in the carnivore pool and lose another 20 lbs...

I've been where you are, where I hit my goal weight, went into maintenance, and then started slowly trying add stuff back in and have the occasional "cheat" meal. Months go by and the weight creeps back on. Regaining the weight plus extra is psychologically/emotionally horrible after climbing that mountain once already. The reason I got to be overweight in the first place is because I cannot moderate carbs / sugar. If you are able to moderate long-term, that's great. But I have to say watching this video filled me with second-hand anxiety lol because it was like listening to my past self justifying why I would start cheat meals and I had it all under control... It is incredibly easy to think you can moderate, and talk yourself into the fact you have changed, when really you are always going to be someone who needs to abstain from the highly addictive substance called carbs and sugar. No point trying to warn people of this though, everyone has to learn for themselves.

What helped me was to record a short video from day one. It helps you express your challenge with cravings, withdrawal and anxiety. Especially the first 12 days. Just dive in, there is no perfect way to start...just start! Every body is different and we all have our own way and interpretation of the Carnivore diet. That is why this community is so loving and supporting, because we have all gone through the same. Buy a few steaks, some bacon, lots of eggs, lots of butter. Then clean out the kitchen and throw out everything else. Invest in some potassium (because you will lose lots of water and you need electrolytes) Vit. D, Iodine and magnesium This might seem like an expensive investment but long term you will save a lot of money If you want to drink coffee go ahead, this is another journey but you can quit after doing Carnivore for a few months Good luck we are here for you!! ❤

I'm staying carnivore, save for a handful of pumpkin seeds every now and then. But three times per year I will go into a blissful self-destruction mode for two weeks and stuff a year's worth of crap into me. I'll start out at 136 pounds and balloon to 150. Then begins the strict journey back to 136. Not a great habit, but nobody's perfect.

you're in a stage that I went thru and all of us do. Be careful with experimenting with other foods. I fell over on milk and cream. It took about 10 days to get back to that feeling of sharpness meat only delivers to me every morning, after a few times enjoying a full cream glass of milk I seriously dreaded the rollercoaster of headaches, thoughts that led me down the path to alcohol again, the carb content and whey morphine's and the elevated Insulin Growth Factors that milk contains build up and snatch all your progress so quickly its astounding. Its easy to reverse it all though, it just takes an application of will power to detox from it again and get back to living. How many times you punish yourself is up to you!

I’m OG atkins, lost 150 on that in 2005. Kept it off then one day I woke woke age 40 at 343lbs. I’m so inflamed, everything hurts, everything is stiff. I just started carnivore (beef, water, salt). 5 days in I already feel so much better, I also dropped 13 lbs the first two days in water weight. I feel like this is easier to stick to so far because it’s more strict. I fail at keto because I start creeping back up on carbs, have a few beers and binge.

Congratulations on your weight loss and reversing your pre-diabetes and heart issues!! I’m also animal based. I eat 3 meals, 1 snack per day. For me, it was also about learning how to control my food addiction of eating processed, sugary JUNK! But, now I have. It’s been a 3 yr journey for me so far. Like you, I’ve reversed health issues. I actually have t2d and have reversed it. I’ll always have to be purposeful about my A1c because I neglected it and gave myself a life long disease!! 🙄 I use food to benefit my health needs but still enjoy a variety of foods. (Not so redundant or boring). My body rejected a lot of types of veggies when I started to add them back (like lettuces, corn, broccoli, brussel sprouts) - but my body did not reject fruit. I can eat peppers 🌶️. I can eat ALL types of fruit but measure/weigh mine. I’ve enjoy your honesty. Refreshing.

I wish you the best of luck, I think you're in the hardest part of your journey now as you mix things up, you have to make sure you do it consistently and trying let it creep back up with changes you make. I think its best if you try to eat what's in season in the region of where you live. Keep you leptin strong. Eating whole foods is the best thing you can do. Good luck!

Purists of ANY kind drive me crazy. I live in France and like you I lost 90 pounds over the last 2 years on carnivore. I eat 90%-95% carnivore. Eggs, butter, bacon sausage or smoked salmon for breakfast. Steak or burger patties for dinner. Occasionally, I'll eat some cheese or creme fraiche or mustard (Dijon has no sugar in it). I use Tabasco on my eggs once in a while. I also eat an avocado once a week, plus blueberries. When we go out to eat in a restaurant I'll order the plat du jour, which is always meat, lamb or fish. and if there are a few potatoes on the plate I'll eat them too. I stay away from anything green. Lastly, I still have a glass of wine every couple of weeks and I haven't gained any weight or had any adverse side effects. Do what works for you.

Something we've enjoyed from the start is organic plain high fat yogurt with flax, chia seeds, pecans and berries. Wife's pretty much OMAD while I eat 3 meals a day. I'm 64 and started off with Keto, then Ketovore, now mostly Carnivore. Now that I'm on-weight (265 down to 175) and reversed my type II diabetes, I do allow myself the occasional treat one a week or so (one big treat once a month). My drinks are water, carbonated spring water (with lime flavoring), green tea, and "Zevia" soda - plus electrolytes (my own picks added to the drink base). So, I'm not a strict "Carnivore" due to allowing myself "treats" from time to time; I let my body "flex" in and out of healthy "ketosis;" and fast when I went over-board with things (one "OMAD" usually fixes things). My treats do sometimes include some fruit (cantaloupe), home-made protein bars/bark (coconut butter with either banana protein power mix or cocoa powder and some inulin; and allulose sweetener if needed) and a pizza (no more than once a month).
