Thank you so much for that honest account of your experiences Lee. This is top quality content that everyone needs to hear. I come from a background on Team Canada as both a Weightlifter and afterwards a Powerlifter, having good success in both. After some injuries in Powerlifting, and not wanting to only do strength work for the rest of my life, I decided to branch out and expand into various forms of training, including Running, Calisthenics, Muay Thai, etc. I joined the military in 2020 after coaching for over 15 years, and continued to pursue a somewhat "hybrid" style of training. As time went on, I got weaker and weaker while my running and Calisthenics improved, but only to a certain point. You hit the nail on the head regarding genetics for cardio and how our confidence really takes a hit when the thing we're good at goes down but we still "suck" at the thing we are working on (I went from a 305kg squat and 230kg for 10 reps to not even hitting 230kg for a single, for example). I've been chronically overtrained now for years and destroyed my hormones, incurred more injuries that are more severe than when I lifted my heaviest, and generally have struggled hard for motivation to train other than fear of becoming unfit and weak. I would love to chat more about how you're training nowadays to get insight as to how you came out the other end of this Crossfit journey.

Thank you for sharing Lee. You highlighted problems that are prevalent in nearly all competitive sports. IMO, efforts to make competitive sports like crossfit "clean" would do better to accept that it's impossible to enforce 100% natural and instead invest in research and standards for "safe use" of PEDs that aid with improved health (mental and physical) and recovery outside of competition and "clean" competitions. I suspect you'll receive many more kudos for your openness and honesty versus criticism for your opinions and admitted PED use.

@@billraymond9475 thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment. And I completely agree. I think the moment you take that step to be to level competitive you walk into the chances over over training and struggle to recover. And ped usage is so prevalent in top level competitive sports. And it's sad that people don't believe this is the case

Thanks for your story, Lee, so interesting to hear 👍 Olympic weightlifting has always scared me - too much technique required and I'm not flexible enough for overhead squats. Powerlifting is so much simpler. I prefer to keep my strength training and cardio separate. Hiking and biking for cardio, powerlifting for strength. Plus the hiking and biking get me out of the gym to see some countryside.

@@smet145 Olympic lifting is definitely the hardest thing I've ever encountered. So much technique required and the more you do it. The more involved you realise it actually is. I totally agree about powerlifting and cycling outdoors. I really love cycling now.. As long as its outdoors 😅😂

@@petermason4764 absolutely true. Crossfit in the terms of just moving and fitness is great. On a competitive level I feel like there are a lot of issues they still need to work out. And I realise it's still a relatively new sports so it's still finding its feet. But that shouldn't be at the expense of the athletes

Says who
@LeeKeyrouz
@LeeKeyrouz Ай бұрын
@@brooklynwillis1604 this is my personal opinion. I can't speak for the original commenter. High rep Olympic lifts and heavy Olympic lifts are 2 completely different movements. Just like kipping pull ups and a strict pull up are different. The high volume Olympic lift performed in Crossfit is designed for speed and reps. You often see athletes pull the bar, hip it, cut the extension or not even make hip contact, like a non contact snatch, in order to perform the reps quicker. They may perform no foot or have a wider hand position or bouncing it off their thighs, etc. All of these cheat elements to create faster reps are counter intuitive to that of doing a heavy clean or snatch. You almost never see an Olympic lifter perform touch and go reps because the most technical part of the lift is from the floor to the knee and where most errors happen. When you take the initial set up out of the equation because you're bouncing the bar off the floor the set up and line of the bar completely changes. Olympic lifts might do complexes like multiple hangs etc but don't do touch and go for a reason. Just my thought. And if you disagree I would love to hear what your input is ♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏
@brooklynwillis1604
@brooklynwillis1604 Ай бұрын
You say you completely agree with the above poster. That “Olympic weightlifting done for time and reps is dangerous” . It’s not dangerous, what is dangerous is using your ego to lift heavier than you’re able. The snake method of snatch’s you speak of is rarely used and elite crossFitters use it with 95/75 lbs which isn’t even 50% of their max lifts. Great example is grettle, 10 rds 3 clean and jerk and 3 burpee on mens weight is 135 stimulus of the workout is to go fast as possible, I scale to 115 or 95 depending on the day to go sub 330.

There’s one instance of a CrossFit getting hurt lifting that wasn’t ego and it was a bad setup, he had a rack behind him barbel bounced off the rack and paralyzed him. So since the 90s ego excluded 1 person has been injured that wasn’t ego with a barbel

Its painfully obvious you dont understand what the word "natural" means. If you take PED's, you are forever from that day forward never considered "natural". The mental gymnastics to convince yourself you're "natural" is mind-blowing.

I think it is very wrong to do strength exercises as endurance exercises, especially if the form is not good, and most of the time it is not good because the competitors try to do as many repetitions as possible in as little time as possible. I certainly respect their abilities, but in the end it very often turns out to be very dangerous for health.
@LeeKeyrouz
@LeeKeyrouz Ай бұрын
@@bojanrokvic2742 this is very true. I've seen injuries from heavy deadlifts been done for reps under time combined with things like burpees and numbers extremely high that can often end in injury. And even if you're strong enough, if you're doing 150 reps like when they do 10 to 1 and back to 10 this can often end up in incorrect form and so many risk factors
