This was really amazing. You know why? This is EXACTLY what happened to me. In my 6th grade, Rubik’s cubes were very popular, like fidget spinners were in my 7th grade year. I got very interested in it, while everyone else moved on. I didn’t. My friend still did it some. We cubed together, and learned them with me. Once I got to 4x4 and 5x5, he was starting to fade out of it. Then, I was lonely. So, I quit. Here I am a couple of years later, starting to get back into it after finding my cubes collecting dust in my room. Also, I play tennis competitively right now, so that’s something else that we have in common.

Oh, dude you just took me waaaaay back. I used to be the "teacher" at school as well. I averaged sub-25 at the time(sub-15 now). For three whole years I was that guy with the cube, I taught a lot of people how to solve it and two of them were interested enough to learn cfop. They never learned optimal f2l though they kept doing the corners-edges f2l and like your friends slowly drifted away. By the last year of school I was the only weirdo that kept solving that "noisy" thingy every second of school time. Anyway, right now I am the only person I know of that can solve fast, I wish I knew more people but cubing in Greece is quite silent, most people don't even know it's a thing.

j perm is actually exactly like me, but i kind of just get people to start cubing (3x3, 2x2, and pyraminx, mostly) and i give them tips and tricks (which i learned a lot of from j perm, tbh) once they get off the ground *also, read more* I think this might be a thing that's easier for memorizing algorithms, or it might be the fact that i have really good memory, but i have a tip for memorizing algorithms. 1. obviously, muscle memory for shorter algs (e.g. u perms, jb perm, etc.) 2. instead of memorizing moves, watch how the pieces move as you execute the algorithm. this is especially evident in pll algorithms, where you often take out f2l pairs, and put them back later. for example, F perm leads with R' U' F' (memorize), then R U R' U' (instead of just memorizing this as sexy move, i think of it as taking out a block w/ the cross color), then F R2. instead of memorizing F R2, i think of it as fixing the f2l pair and moving it to the back. then, there's a bit of a pattern, when you do U' R' U' R U R' U R. its a little hard to describe how i think of it, but it's basically alternately raising and lowering an f2l slot while moving the pair around. this sort of thing isn't unique to plls; watching how the yellow face moves and changes during oll might help too from what i understand, what i described is basically intuitive f2l, where you watch how all the pieces move around and line up pairs TL/DR: watch how pieces move during algs

You were the first and only one who taught me how to solve a cube
@nepnep30435 жыл бұрын
I reflect in this, a slightly different origin on my behalf. I started "cubing" when I was twelve, getting a rubiks cube from my dad one day. I never could solve it up until I was thirteen. My Rubik cube was clunky, rough, and had that clicking mechanism. Despite this, I managed to consistently solve it under a minute. I showed my dad and he was beyond impressed. He offered to take me to a competition of sorts and I was overly excited, naive and still doing LBL. On my initative to be entered into the competition, I believe I got around a minute and twenty seconds. Which I was pretty proud of, then I looked the guy in the eyes and asked the dreaded question "How fast was that?!" Then he told me that compared to other cubers (Late 2017) That I was incredibly slow, it broke my heart. But I went home with new knowledge, loaded up my family computer, and begged my mom to buy me a speed cube. Because I believed that I couldn't get faster with my clunky cube. I got the GAN 356 Air SM in the mail, not magnetic. Just stock with Gan's lube. I was excited when I found it, a blank cube with the stickers ready to be put on. I eagerly prepared it and my twelve year old child mind got the order wrong. I placed Orange and Blue in the wrong way. But I was still able to solve the cube, getting my time down to 48 seconds. I started learned F2L and beginner OLL. Yet, I just kept putting the cube down. Eventually I was 14 and only got the spark for cubing once I saw my teacher with a speed cube of his own. I asked to see his cube and solved it within a minute. My teacher admired my solving style, him knowing full F2L and OLL solving slightly under thirty seconds. I was discouraged, as I couldn't beat him. I was going through that emo, depressed, loser phase. So I wasn't at all trying to solve faster, one day trying to solve I got so mad that I threw the cube against the wall and. White center cap broke off, along with the GES White nut that was attatched to the center. I was so sad over this, and hid the cube from my dad and silently ordered a new one. The Valk. Like an Idiot, I ordered the Valk Power because I thought that a higher priced cube would make me faster. But it never came, ordered it off Ebay and lost fourty bucks. So I quit cubing all together, only having a Pyraminx and a 2x2 Discouragement, sadness, broken dreams in the forme of a cube, and a scam that took what little hope I had left on my dream. It isn't for me, Thank you. J-Perm. You were always reliable and taught me alot, I empathize, I reflect this story. Only it is my own fault, whilst yours was due to the expanding interest of friends.

Dude! This has been a cool, inspiring story, so far! Thank you! Hmm, I wonder what it is for me? I just learned that your solving times were 30 secs., BEFORE learning OLL/PLL? I get 30-40 seconds, give or take, on average WITH 2-look OLL & some PLL's! LOL Well, this is good! It's starting to motivate me towards figuring out new, different paths towards my learning/solving journey! Thanx!
