My 6 year old just got into cubing and started watching KZbin videos. These animated stories are great. You talk about more than just solving cubes. I watched this with my son and it was a great bridge to talk about some of the things that we all go through growing up, making friends, being present, over obsessing. It didn't expect this at all when my son clicked on this. Thanks so much.

Stop acting like just because you can solve a cube you're some kind of superior human being. I have seen videos about how toxic some cubers are but I thought that it was over exaggerated. If we want cubing to keep growing at the rate it has been, it is up to us to act like adults, not 7 year olds who are bragging about how good they are with a cube

Awesome story of a gorgeous individual. Many people can learn from you sharing this, no matter if cubing or not. I am a 49 years old German, having a rubiks since it was released. Never been consequent enough to learn solving more than one side, even it always impressed me, seeing people doing it. As I am working in medical field, I was recently watching things about autism - and a video of Max popped out. Immediately I got my old cube and started to turn. The next day I already came across your videos, highly motivating to solve it. After 2 weeks, I was able to solve it with beginner method in average 2 min 30. Now I struggle and need to "understand" the cube and learn CFOP, OLL, PLL ... as only this can make me faster. You are a great inspiration and motivation, even for an old guy like me. My highest appreciation. Thank you, regards Andreas.

I personally think that cubing also changed my life. I just went into 8th grade and had been cubing for about a year at this point. I was also addicted to computer games and that always made me mad. But cubing just makes me happy, like when i get a pb or learn a new algorithm set. It just always seemed like there was something else to do. Also it wasn't too distracting from my school work.

What you described at the end is exactly where I am right now, except I probably don't expect people to like me as much as you did (I don't really care as much). However, I habitually cube every day in the halls and before and after class, making social interaction hard. I also knew exactly what you meant when you said that cubes were sort of a barrier between you and actual interaction with people because that's exactly how I feel. This video really made me think!

But in these past three years I got so much more confident and better, that I am even a bit surprised. Oh and although it is not my main point of focus right now, there is another girl that I like. But she lives far from where I do so we don't see each other often. But I plan on asking her out the next time we see each other. And strangely I'm not very nervous thinking about it. The reason I learned to solve a cube was because my aunt was twelve at the time and I was six and she had one that was always scrambled because she couldn’t solve it. Then I thought to ask her to borrow it for the week and tried to figure it out. I watched probably every tutorial on KZbin that week, and learned to solve it. That weekend I could solve it in under 45 seconds and went to return it to my aunt that owned it. She in no way thought I actually solved it so she made me solve it in front of her. When i did she was very impressed. I felt so cool because I was a six year old that could do something my older aunt couldn’t. Now six years in I am proud to say I’m sub-20. Yeah. Only sub-20 in six years. Tymon is practically the best cuber with only like 4 years of experience or something like that.

I want to share my story of how i started cubing + the journey so far read if you want :) i've owned a really crappy 3x3 (original rubik's brand) since i was four or five. i never really got around to solving it, but the cube was really hard to turn. i think it's reasonable to compare turning the U face when the R face is at a 5-degree angle to trying to turn the handle on a locked door. enter me in fourth grade. i was in the cafeteria after school. my parents normally worked until four or five, so i stayed at 'aftercare' and hung out with the other kids. that day, i literally found a rubik's cube on the table. it was a D-FantiX Cyclone Boys 3x3. the brand logo was really faded, so i supposed it was one someone owned. i was a finders-keepers sort of person, so i picked it up and started messing around with it. a few weeks later, i picked up a book on cubing. it was titled "Speedsolving the Cube", by Dan Harris. i think it was published in the 2000s or maybe the early 2010s, when cubing was simpler. it took nearly three weeks of intensive learning and practice, but i picked up the beginner method and i could solve a cube without looking at the book. i didn't time myself back then, but judging from a paper where i wrote my PBs down, it took me nearly 6-7 minutes. i started practicing, and i improved to about one-and-a-half minutes for the slightly faster solves. i met a guy named andrew, who also cubed. he was enthusiastic, like me, and we actually held a competition once in the classroom. we had our classmates scramble the cubes for us, then we stood, wild-west showdown-esque, back to back. someone started us, and we solved as fast as we could. the hilarious thing was that we both turned around and said "done" at the same time.. i kind of forgot about cubing in fifth grade, so we'll skip to sixth grade. in sixth grade, i found the rubik's cube again after winter break that year. I became obsessed, and i practiced at school until i was basically banned in every class except lunch and recess. that year, i began cubing with andrew again, as well as a guy named aidan. andrew averaged 37 seconds, and aidan was a bit of a mystery. andrew said aidan was really fast, but i only ever saw him occasionally. over the summer, i lubricated my Cyclone cube with vaseline, and i also got a moyu weilong. i brought it to summer camps with me, and i began to learn plls from the book that i mentioned earlier, as well as olls. my PB, achieved one lazy afternoon, was a 32.68 now, to the present: seventh grade. i really started practicing, and i'll summarize the past five or six months: - I learned full 1-look PLL - I learned 27 of the 57 OLLs - I improved massively; my average decreased from over a minute to, currently (12/19/19), 22.97 - my PB is a 7.28 - I'm waaay better than andrew now; we actually raced at lunch; i gave him a 3x3 with an xcross, and i solved a 2x2 and a 3x3 before he solved his cube - aidan and i are very roughly matched, in terms of averages and the ability to pick up a cube and solve it as quickly as possible; i remembered seeing him sitting at the peanut allergy table (i learned later he didn't actually have an allergy) with a cube in 4th grade - learned a load of f2l stuff - i purchased a qiyi warrior w, and decreased the tension on it, so now i have a faast cube - for christmas, i'm getting a gan 356 xs - i began to explore other cubes: my 2x2 PB is a 2.18, and i average 8 seconds; i sort of glossed over 4x4, but i learned it and my PB is a little over 2 minutes; i really liked the 5x5, and my PB as of 12/12/19 is 5 minutes and 7 seconds (yeah, I'm not good at it); I solved the 6x6 intuitively, but it took me just over an hour because i basically scrambled the cube whenever i got a parity case; i learned how to solve a pryaminx, and i average 15 seconds; i bought a mirror cube, and figured out that it worked sort of like a 3x3;and i bought a square-1, but i haven't learned how to solve it - i started introducing a lot of other people to cubing. unlike j perm, i let them borrow my cubes, and i gave them a couple of tips, but i didn't really act as a ever-present teacher - good stuff remember, if you want to learn how to solve a rubik's cube in 30 seconds or less, it takes maybe seven or eight months, where you can practice only on weekdays, and for a total of maybe one or two hours. (this is for people who don't even know how to solve a cube)

yes haha 2 sides is enough to tell on a 3x3 because there's no parity, but on 4x4 you have to look at 3 sides

Social interactions and making friends because of cubing only happens in cube comps, like if you agree

In one of my courses in school we are only 9 students (I don't know how that is in other countries but here we have in the last 2 years 2 subjects that are more intense because we have more lessons and you can choose them, that 9 people course is one of mine) and I brought a Rubik's cube. Most of them said that it was weird, but one wanted to try a 2x2 (and failed miserably). Almost 2 years later our lessons are like 7 people with different and irregular or just normal cubes + the teacher with a cube. So no, I think you can make cubing interactions without competitions
