I never comment on other people's videos but I had to now. THANK YOU for sharing! I feel you, girl. I resigned from Etihad last year and even though it was the best experience of my life and a dream come true, I had my darkest moments in Abu Dhabi. The pre-flight anxiety (especially before night flights) which started even a day before the actual flight, the lack of depth and real connections (except for a couple of good friends I made in my batch) and the surreal bubble that sucks you in and it's so damn hard to get out of. People get stuck in that lifestyle because of good money and endless content for Instagram and barely realize how fast time is actually passing by. I also left for love (who funnily enough happens to be my batchmate - broke the "never date crew" rule and it paid off, hahaha). It's hard for people to understand the reasons behind leaving such a fantastic job so thank you very much for speaking so openly about this! Best of luck in your new life! :)

Thanks for your comment Petra. You've absolutely hit the nail on the head with everything you said. A lot of people may see us as ungrateful etc but only crew know what we go through and what makes us sad. It's easy to get sucked in and it's an addictive job. I'm glad you found love and followed your heart! :) Besrt of luck with everything and thank you again for writing that! :) xxxx

So interesting to hear your experiences!!! I am still considering Emirates or Etihad. And I really get the „being stuck in a luxurious but kinda negative life in a bubble“ aspect. I am afraid of that and how hard it is to find a real job after!! What do you think about making a career in Emirates? Like becoming a manager, recruiter, HR, ground staff or college teacher etc. I thought that might be an idea. But I have absolutely no idea if thats even possible and if you would have the same lifestyle and advantages with these other jobs in the airline. Do you get what I mean?🙈 Would love to hear your opinion

As a former Cabin Crew for Emirates, I can relate to every single reason you give in this video. It's a lovely experience for a while, but when fatigue, loneliness and the sense of emptiness become overwhelming, you know it is time to go. I sometimes miss the lifestyle, because, as you say, even though it's tough experience it's also fun, but my emotional and mental balance are thanking me every day for quitting. Thanks for sharing.

Life in middle east especially Dubai. It's all plastic life there's no true happiness nor freedom. I've been worked for Hamad International Airport, and other Middle Eastern countries but haven't satisfied with plastic and mechanical life. I feel good working and living in my country with full freedom, mental happiness and peace of mind. I don't recommend anyone working in these countries. Do your research before going to these countries. Thank you Sarah for sharing your story. Appreciate you for you're good conscience and morality. Bless you. (Ps. 134:3)

I am now 51 years old, but what you are referring to about seeing others start their families, etc., before YOU are really ready to do that, is a normal thing for someone your age. You are caught between feeling like you are missing out or are falling behind but you don't really want it yourself--YET. That is a normal way for everyone to think at your age. We all compare ourselves to others and what is expected of us. It's really stupid. Give yourself another few years and you'll realize that those who went "out of order" in life are actually much more interesting and better people in the long run. You have led such an interesting life, including what you learned from your upbringing and then from your travels. You are way ahead of most people in the world. Just live your life. You are an amazing person. Trust me. (I know this is an older video and you probably already know this, but I still felt the need to comment. I would be so proud of you if you were my daughter.)

However, I used to live in Australia :p and really miss the people there, the nature etc... and completely got you on the fact that Dubai is superficial and good for short term. I am happy that you find happiness and hope that you will continue sharing about your life in Aus :)

Found your channel in my KZbin recommendations; thank you so much for sharing your experiences and journey and opinions. Although I know close to nothing about being a flight attendant, as a consultant who occasionally travels (fly) to new cities for client sites, I could really relate to your experiences of loneliness and how traveling losing some of it's "shine". I would clarify to my friends outside of consulting how work travel and leisurely travel can be completely different experiences and everyone has a different tolerance living the "glamorous lifestyle" until burnout. At times it was hard to connect with people who don't do the same work or have the same work lifestyle, but other times the work is so fast paced and intense that it leaves little room for more deep, intimate, and genuine connections. Thanks again for this video!

You are definitely right. I was born in emirates (AbuDhabi) lived there for 15 years until I moved to the UK. I would definitely say it’s a stop-off place coz my dad lived there for 40 years and when he retired he felt like he wasted his life there, but it was too late. First off love all of your honesty & rawness while speaking about your personal experiences. Many people would share their personal experiences here on KZbin but in a detached point of view from their raw and real self & you HAVENT done that at all super appreciate that! Second thing is, I also applied to emirates and am going through the interviewing process and before I apply I watched many videos of different cabin crew and wondered that exact same thing you were speaking about in this video, how do they feel experiencing the world with a bunch of strangers (crew) everyday? Do they have enriching conversations right off the bat? Is it in any way fulfilling? How do people make friendships.. And so on, anyway great advice. I loved your video and story about meeting your boyfriend, wish you all the happiness and love together 🤗 can’t wait to see your new content 💗 Thank you!

I feel you! That is exactly how I feel at the moment. I don't work for Emirates or Etihad, but I live in Abu Dhabi for almost 2 years now. And I find myself feeling empty and alone. And I've been feeling this way for a while now. And honestly I would say it's not the job, it's the country. Depends on who you surround yourself with, but I have found so many people living here say the same thing. This country is just so new and that means that it doesn't have much personality or culture. And because there are so many different nationalities, that makes you feel even more out of place. Thanks for making this video. And best of luck to you.💕

Love this video! So honest. I was a domestic flight attendant who was always at home base at the end of the day. I loved it! I wanted a change and to see the world, so i transferred to INT flying, and I hated it!! I lasted 2 months before having a mental breakdown. The lack of sleep, longer hours and jetlag affected me so bad. I hated missing out on what was happening at home, and when i was home, i was so exhausted I slept for days and couldn't get out of bed. Luckily I was able to transfer back to domestic flying and stayed there for a few more years before resigning 10 years ago. Being a flight attendant was my dream since I was 10 years old, but nowadays it is not a long term career option, due to all the things you mentioned in this video. Thank you for sharing and being so real!!

Hi Sara. You look such a beautiful person outside and inside. Best of luck with your new chapter. I have worked for another major Middle East airline for 7 years and can relate with everything what you said. Actually my (and most of my colleagues’) experience was even more radical (sorry, not sure if it’s a right word, not a native speaker haha), because we had countless, the most crazy rules which don’t make any sense and mostly I felt like I lived in a boarding school or golden cage. It’s a definitely a big shock to come back to “normal” life, but it’s absolutely worth it. I cannot imagine being a crew for decades. It drains you too much. Again, best of luck to you xx

I feel like this is where the major US Carriers and some Middle Eastern Carriers differ so much. I can't imagine working 16 hr flights as a "usual" international flights. I throughly enjoy my job as an FA for a major US Airline and feel like there is no other job here that offers this much flexibility in terms of schedule, hours, preferencing, coworkers, and meeting amazing people who might become true life long friends. Some days are harder and longer than others but I don't think one of my hardest days is as hard as of one of your easiest days. I'm so happy that you're so much happier now. And to those who want to be FAs please do your research and make sure you are looking at companies that would be best for you and not what companies seem the most glamorous. much love and live and let's fly

I have always thought Dubai to be a glamorous place with bad choices lurking and that's why I will choose to stay away from all these and do the things I want to do and really enjoy.... I have been watching your videos a long time now and it's great you moved on with your life and took this decision! Wishing you a happy and peaceful life!

This scared me, but made me more aware of things.. The worst nightmare that could ever happen to me, is to be surrounded by people lacking depth and who aren't looking for their purpose in life. I don't want to lose what I have now.. I don't want to miss it. But I also want to go out there for a while.. Finding balance is really challenging. I'm so happy that you could finally find peace, and reconnect with your inner self.. That's what life is all about.. and I wish people could be more aware of that.

Thanks for Sara sharing your feelings so openly to us, it's easy to understand that empty feeling you felt (that feeling in Niagara falls....), which made you leave that job. I wish you well and true happiness in beautiful Australia! The 6 years with Emitates would not be a waste, i am sure you'd have learned something that will make you smart in life.

OH GOODNESS!...almost cracked a rib from laughter @ "getting dressed, face full of makeup, putting on red lipstick...". Sara you are super honest. No sugar coating the cons of the job You might be right about getting in, enjoy what you can and get out of the bubble fast. Could this be why they make it a 3yr contract to begin with? The Emirates probably conducted a survey and know cabin crew employees will burn out soon, within a certain timeframe. Wishing you all the best Sara.

I think I get what you are saying. many "why I quit emirates " videos talk about this... emptiness and I think it is because of the fast changing situation cabin crew are disposed to, and the fact that you have to be nice to people that is actually just passers-bys.. passengers, fellow cabin crews, etc. You are kind to them, but at the end of the day they were not your people. I can feel that, and thank you for keeping strong and resilient. I think you are actually a wonderful person.

I understand, I was with Emirates for close to 10yrs and what I feel is that Dubai maybe a great place to be in but only for a short while. But it's all artificial, that's what you wanted to say. Yes, it's artificial lifestyle, it's very hard to do soul searching there. You have friends there but they leave you when need them the most. Then, you make new friends, start from scratch and they want to do the same thing you did when we came to Dubai.

The problem is that majority think that dubai its perfect! Now I really want to become a cabin crew for emirates because I want that experience wich will alowed me to get in the airline of my country. Yes I want a career in aviation. Also I need to live by myself, I need to be alone and met new people. I want a life you know. And also delete a few persons in my mind. You should aply for cabin crew if you want to grow up, for real. But some people aply only just because " I want to travel". Sorry my english is not the best but I am actually studying and being able to aply for emirates.

I recognized myself so much in your words. Worked years in fashion and stayed too long in a company which was in an isolated city. You said the word damaging and it was actually damaging to stay there too long for a very good salary. I had fun the first 3 years and then I stayed 5 more years. Imagine… I saved a lot of money yes, which I am about to run of because of Covid now… But anyway, you put words on a confused situation I lived because so many people told that I was crazy to quit this ''perfect'' well paid job''. But I remember when I left I felt SO relieved. I passed the front door of the company and tons just felt of my shoulders. Many thanks

Hello! This is my first time coming across your channel, I guess I just stumbled onto the video by accident and found myself sticking around to watch it Haha. I have to tell you that its quiet an insightful perspective on what life is like being a cabin crew particular one with an airline the likes of Emirates. I'm intrigued because my father has been a flight purser with Emirates for the past 23 years and I have grown up with it in dubai, flying Emirates a countless number of times. Seeing my dad grow up, I always observed his routine and could imagine that a job that involves going to the airport at 3am on a tuesday couldn't be a particularly easy one, and the repetitive nature of it probably didn't help the role seem as endearing as it did to him back in 97'. Its really eye opening and a reminder of what this life is like and gives you a refined appreciation for People working in the sector especially the ones closest to you. Thank you for the lovely video! I wish you the best in your future endeavors! I hope you read this. 👑🤘♥️

Could totally relate to that feeling of emptiness. I also flew for 3 years (a little bit more than a contract haha), but I think that everything was so rushed living in those 24 hours while on a layover and the tiredness on top of it kinda felt like living life while sleepwalking. It’s truly a wonderful job and like you, I recommend it to everyone but it’s not a career in my opinion, and that’s how most people see this job and think we’re just ungrateful millennials. I wish you best of luck in the future, and thanks for sharing your experience with the world. 😊🙏🏼

My life in Qatar airways really can relate to you girl.i went through the same things & I thought I was the only person to feel & experience such things but now I know it's not only me. I resigned from Qatar airways months ago because I had this persistent feeling that I'm missing so much & I'm not like a normal person. It's true everything has it's pros and cons but in my case I think I was sort of depressed & stressed because the hour's we work & wakeup are the times usually a person would go to sleep .I think we all take Decisions blindly at some point in our life maybe that's the human nature . But just one message for any aspirant who wants to join Qatar airways . please please don't Just join just because you see how a glamorous flight stewardess look there are so so many things beyond that you should consider. Have you atleast thought why do Qatar airways hire cabin crew frequently ??????? That's because the cabin crew keeps resigning every month & trust me people the rules are very very strict & you won't even feel happy about being a cabin crew , Cabin crew is just a title is true there are few perks of being a cabin crew but believe me you won't believe how hard it is to work as one of them . waking up at 2am to be in the airport by 4am & the flight is at 6am & then you have a 15 hour flight . Just imagine how much the body is suffering .you just think you only have 15 hrs to work on that day but you have to atleast wake up 3 hours early to put on ur makeup ,get in to the crew transport go to the airport & crew briefing & random crew checkings etc.

I'm crew as well (not Emirates) and I completely understand all your points. My airline rarely does layovers, we usually just do there & back, which I honestly prefer, but it feels so exhausting. Physically, mentally... Dealing with entitled people who act as if they own us. It is lonely, all your friends are working 9 to 5 or just normal shift work and after they're finished they go for a pint but you're so exhausted from being on a plane for 12 hours that you can't bring yourself to do anything. And it gets hard to connect with people who aren't crew because a lot of people seem to think we're just pretty girls serving drinks and don't realise how taxing it is for your body and soul.
