A lot of people underestimate how much power customers have in these kinds of situations. If I see an employee being treated badly by their supervisor, I'm going to report the supervisor to _their_ supervisor (and likely rant and rave about how wonderful the employee in question was, because I know the supervisor is going to try to pull some shit).
@mikoto7693

To be honest I’m glad to hear that. If I saw bullying while I’m aboard the aircraft cleaning I would very likely go to the flight attendant being bullied and discreetly ask if they want me as a neutral witness. Having experienced that kind of bullying in another job I know how mentally destructive it can be and how much a witness could help.

Extremely tiring. Apart from the rules, pressure, stress, duty & responsibility to be done. Already hard, you have another thing to face for example like this bossy manager or cuckoo supervisor or could probably checker. It is really challenging you to the limit, sometimes around 5 hours flight felt way much harder than doing 13-14 hours flight with nice set of crew.

I still remember my first year, crying on the bus on the way to work because I was so scared of being bullied by managers or fellow crew, even now I still get it from time to time, but I've learned to fight back. These people are so toxic and predatory, the minute they feel that you're weak they'll keep picking on you. Going to work shouldn't be this anxiety inducing, I hope they do some sort of psychological test for all crew, because the amount of narcissists and sociopaths I've encountered in the airline industry is way too high. Stay strong my people.

People like this exists everywhere..there was this supervisor in our airline who was a nightmare. Everyone literally used report sick on her flight. She even got 7-8 people terminated. Finally one crew gathered some evidence of her being rude and mean threatening other crew members and send it over to the base manager and she got terminated😂😂 she used to make crew practice emergency commands in the hotel during layover..what a psycho😂😂

Let me guess, business class? Sometimes crew don't click, also the layover is not 24h which used to be 52 to 76h so you're very tired on the way back. Its a very difficult flight, one of the most difficult we gave (at least pre covid). Sometimes it could be things not resolved on the way out, like crew drama or difficult and unsupportive senior and it stresses the crew on the way back.

Who the hell would work for any airline. Getting up in the middle of the night to get to work. So much of your time used up to get the airport. Pretending to be another person. Too much alone time in hotel rooms that all look the same wherever in the world you are. Grabbing sleep when you can. No routine. Eating and drinking with people you cant stand down route or if you dont sit alone in your hotel cell sorry room. Wages below minimum wage when you factor in the total amount of your time used up to actually do the job. Would rather be on the dole.

I was an Emirates cabin crew for seven years before I went to private flying. Although reflecting back, I am truly grateful for the experience I gained and the exciting life I lived, not to mention friends and beautiful people I had met along my EK journey. However, I also had countless bad experiences with "supervisors on a power trip" mostly due to their insecurities and ignorance. At one point that backstabbing culture was so bad and escalated almost regularly on each and every flight, I was on, among the crew. It was very sad, but that was the culture the office management was supportive of. Finally, I could not see myself working constantly in that unhealthy environment, so I decided to leave for private. Still, Emirates holds a big piece in my heart. Wish them all the best and to the friends, I still have flying for them. Fly safe and stay safe.

So interesting to know that the issues are the same at ALL airlines. I am what you would call a “supervisor” at my airline and I had to laugh. Remembered that I made a commitment to myself that when if I became a “supervisor” that I would never be that way. We all know the different types you must deal with. My theory is how would l like to be treated in this situation. And seriously, humor helps a great deal and can diffuse many situations. Trust me I am FAR from perfect, but do my best to support my crews. As the saying goes, It’s Not What You Say, It’s What You Do.

I work for LH since 31 years now. I m a Purser since 21 years. What s going on at these mid eastern airlines like Emirates is a nightmare! These very old fashion way to lead employees is so so last century! People will not build up any loyalty if you treat them like that. An atmosphere of fear is a very bad way to ensure safety also. If you always think you might make a mistake and will be punished you might not want to report something "strange" because you might be wrong and then get again punished. Flight attendants must be encouraged to speak free! Mistakes are a chance to learn. To learn and to improve iso punishment and fear. The Crewspirit and the atmosphere is the most important thing for success. A Crew that really cares. An atmosphere were you can also lough and be a professional you. Passengers don't wanna see cold, fake flight attendants. You make a little mistake..? So what .. we are all just humans. But all that gives a flight an atmosphere. An environment were everybody feel good and safe.

Emirates needs some organizational psychologists like me to work there. What you’ve described is a prime example of how I work with managers and supervisors to create a positive team environment that is encouraging and supportive thereby providing a better image to the traveling public. What you’ve described is clearly a systemic culture problem within Emirates as a Company. It’s never ok for a supervisor or manager to treat employees like you’ve described.

Beautiful people with fake smiles really makes me sad in a weird way, I might not be rich but common sense tells me simple things in life what to be careful of. This sounds like a very factual video from a young man with experience with this company. Without these beautiful crew members from around the world I often wonder what these airlines would be like. Imagine living a life pretending to smile and being happy yet so unhappy from the heart. What a horrible life to live.

I used to work for a company and I had a terrible experience with one supervisor that reported me because I was standing at the hotel front desk during the layover check-in. It was my first flight as a trainee and nobody told me where to wait or what to do during hotel check-in. It was really like in the army. I resigned after my first fixed term contract. By the way, the company went bankrupt few years later.

Well, your story sounds like mine except that I worked in a different sector. I was freshly hired for an American fast food restaurant in the capacity of a pre-managerial role. The restaurant had been newly inaugurated . I worked my arse off standing all day long but the working environment was so toxic that it was draining my soul out of my body. Even then, I continued working on until one day, that one infamous supervisor summoned me and told me right on the spot that I'd been fired. The universe around me collapsed, I was stunned and speechless. "You're too slow" was the "feedback". So, I laboured all day long without even taking a break and they didn't even have the grace of giving me a proper feedback on how to work faster (if they thought I was too slow), this didn't make any sense. I didn't even know whether to fight back or just cry. I didn't do anything. Packed my stuff and left feeling so embarrassed that I thought I'd not live another day. But I lived 😂😂 I lived to see the fecking restaurant being shut down because it went out of business. I lived to hear that the bish who had dismissed me unfairly had also been dismissed a few weeks later because of her not-so-ethical working ethics. Toxic people not only kill the morale of others, but bring them down as well, and along with it, they too fall.

I have worked for another major Middle East Airline for almost 8 years. We didn’t have such crew diversity as Emirates, but one big, dominant nationality was known as the most mean and crazy. I can’t tell you how many times people were reported for the smallest and the silliest mistakes (e.g for rolling eyes at your colleague when you’re not even doing that lol). Probably the reason behind that behaviour is just a very big cultural difference, when people think that being in charge is equal to be abusive and rude. For those who grew up in liberal, open minded and progressive societies, that kind of “leadership” is complete Stone Age.

Do supervisors get any financial incentives or even "points" for each crew member they report negatively on? On an unrelated note, some companies (in western countries) actually give supervisors a "points budget" to report on positive things that their employees have done (eg. going above and beyond in providing customer service). Each time a supervisor reports on positive things, points from the "budget" the supervisor is allocated is transferred to the employee. Once the employee accumulates enough points, they can redeem them for things like merchandise on an internal online shopping site. The supervisor is given a goal where he/she must use up all the points in their "budget" by the end of the year. What I described is totally opposite to what is happening at Emirates!

You should be in Hollywood 😅 your acting skills are at pro level. Now to the serious part. Most of the supervisors have pass through the phase of being cabin crew and experiencing all the things in their journey. Then why are they behaving in such a way.. this is like satisfying their ego. Moreover we have to listen to the things which we have never done. I mean why to listen all this, can't we complaint or raise our voice against it ? Don't they have guilty feelings..?

Before becoming an Emirates cabin crew I used to watch your videos and could NOT believe that these stories were true. Little did I know that this is all SO true that it hurts. Unfortunately the hierarchy of this company is based on the very common psychology of Power Abuse. And even if not all of the supervisors exploit it at their advantage with the aim of diminishing his/her crew and look bigger and mightier in front of their supervisors and management, there are still quite many who prefer to do so. Not to mention that cabin supervisors mainly get to that position not because of some meritocratic deeds or exceptional leading skill, but only thanks to their seniority in the company (which varies based on the corporate requirements for a specific number of cabin crew employed in a specific time frame), and they're more often than so do not attend an adequate training on how to be a good Team Leader and which techniques to use in order to rocket their teams' synchrony and cooperation.

I didn’t even last a year. It was psychologically nerve-wracking. From the militarily-like training to the super strict rules once you’re ready to fly, i just didn’t know how to cope. I had a supervisor report my shoes not to be Burgundy bright enough for being my second flight. It was only because i had used a cheaper shoe polish but it was really not that bad. I had a warning for it. Being my first working experience abroad and with low self esteem, Incidents like these make me anxious and paranoid, i wish i had know how to cope with it back then and enjoy the experience instead of retreating into my own bubble.

I’m from Hong Kong, and my dad experienced the thief on Emirates prior. A few years ago, he flew with Emirates to the UK, and he fell asleep. According to him, he would never be able to sleep that well on a flight, but he thinks someone did something so that he slept like a baby. The thief ended up stealing a bunch of rather expensive items, but he didn’t discover it till everyone disembarked so they couldn’t actually find the thief. Nevertheless, we don’t think it’s people from Hong Kong - since most are relatively well educated and crime rates are generally low in the city. We believe it was some Mainland Chinese people who were going to Europe (EK used to have some good deals for HK to EU), and you could normally hear lots of Mandarin onboard. After that incident my dad got a new suitcase with a proper, metal lock and also stopped flying EK (opted for direct with CX more) that often, since it was becoming a pattern after some time.

Was a cabin crew for 20 years and what was shown and discussed in here are poor management of cabin crew by supervisors and poor delegation of workload. Everybody were trained the same way and that’s the reason why during the service, the proper delegation of work as per the book should be followed and changes will only be done when needed. let’s face the fact that all companies or airlines have this kind of issues no matter what. But I can attest to it that the crew makes the flight and the rapport that you build with the crew makes a difference from the briefing and start of the flight considering that we came from different countries with different culture. I know the crew complaints, may it be supervisors or not, but I believe that the positive mindset of crew on the flight will make a difference. Been a supervisor for 15 years and have experienced a lot of situations on board, may it be emergency, conflict with crew or with passengers but I never had a bad flight. It’s the positive attitude that makes a difference.

Retired u.s. Crew member. Last year after 51 years. So , I flew in the days of no unions, where it became illegal to fire us because we married or were overweight. Nothing in my 51 years had we dealt with such stupidity or harassment. Would never have been tolerated , even back in the early 70 s. Obviously this harassment would affect your ability to provide good service . How stupid , in reality. I've flown Emirates and they are no better than any other airline. So all of this doesn't make any difference. Just let there be a snitch onboard, good luck with your career. You'd be known all over the system. Wouldn't last. Quite frankly, who would work for them, crap pay, who wants to live in Dubai , sounds like a sweat shop.

If you report and backstab, you get away with it unfortunately. There has been some name and shame within the company, but when management found out about it, they fired the crew who did! I was once throwing up continuously on a flight about 2hrs before landing into DXB and my SFS sent an email to my manager to say I must not have rested enough for the trip…. How about I just caught yet another sickness bug from working as many hours as I possibly could?! The use of the tray was so funny I was in the era of the silver tarnished tray which was super heavy.

Thanks for that great video😊 For me it seems soo crazy and kinda dangerous for the flight safety! Aren’t supervisors supposed to manage and to keep the crew together in order to secure safe flight operations(?). I work for a European Airline and we have an open feedback/ mistake policy- if a mistake happens they encourage you to tell them by yourself, so that everyone may learn from it and that this mistake doesn’t happen again, it makes flying so much safer in my opinion!! Kinda shocked how emirates deals it!

As a soon to be cabin crew, also for a European airline, I'm very glad to hear that not all airlines have these back stabbing policies and toxic environments!

I heard this a lot from female supervisors. Like once we hear about this line, prepare and brace ourselves til the end of the flight. I'm easy going oh yeah to be bossy around. to be cuckoo, to tell you what to do, to be lazy, to torture whoever more junior than me, to do what I want to do since I have my position and power. That is the meaning of I'm easy going by them in general 😆🤣
