Being an Fa myself AND on reserve I can empathize with you immensely. Reserve takes such a negative toll on a flight attendant. I’m happy that you made the wise decision to be with your family, you can’t get back those years or moments !! Stay strong ❤️❤️

After 2 years with my mainline I’ve come to the realization that I’m not a flight attendant at all. I’ve been terribly lonely, severely depressed, and just angry all the time in the last 14 months. I was on reserve in IAD and then transferred to CLE to line chase. While it’s been a little better, it’s not enough to change my mind. The company I work for is totally apathetic to family emergencies. They punish me for pointing out safety concerns. And I’ve experienced instances of sexual harassment and assault that made me realize I don’t feel safe at all. August 6 will be my last day as a flight attendant and I can’t wait.

It's a tough life as Cabin Crew - far from the 'glamorous' life, it's sold as. I have a friend who has worked as Cabin Crew for a very large UK carrier for years. I never really appreciated just how disruptive the life of Cabin Crew is, nor how poorly paid it is (most Cabin Crew seem to work two jobs just to make ends meet, my friend included). If it's not for you, you made the correct decision. It takes guts to walk out of a job that makes you very unhappy and unfulfilled (I've done it myself - twice). Remember the definition of FEAR = For Everything A Reason.
@CassieSiedlik4 жыл бұрын
So very true!! If I was single and had no kiddos it would still be a challenge with the pay working for regional airline. A mainline carrier would be much different. It’s nice knowing that I’m not the only one who’s made a hard decision regarding resigning from a job for being unhappy. 💜

Sorry to hear you resigned.... Sorry for your loss, thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Being a reserve regional flight attendant is difficult. Being on reserve just plain sucks, no other way to describe it. I know for me, I was NYC based and live in Florida, so crash pad for 6 days while on reserve, hoping to fly home for 2 days, to turn around and do it again the following week was tough.... But after getting off of reserve and finding a base closer to home made a world of difference. The difference is overwhelming and the quality of life is a game changer. Getting off of reserve allowed me to plan my trips, commute same day and never need that crash pad again. Maybe a hotel here or there for an early show the next day. Pay well, people just really don't understand the amount of time you put in without getting paid, it truly is not like any other job. Having young kids at home and doing this work makes it very difficult, they don't understand why your not there, especially on holidays. Glad to see that you were able to make a decision that works for you and your family. I wish you nothing but the best in all of your future endeavors.

Being on RSV does suck!! I've found out recently that only 5 of the 12 graduates from training based in DTW are left. 😯 I couldn't imagine being a commuter on top of that! I bet it was rough! Thank you so much for supporting me. I loved being a flight attendant and know I'll go back to it one day, it just might be 10 or so years from now lol.

I just resigned from being a flight attendant after 2 1/2 years. I was on reserve the whole time with the company so I TOTALLY understand what it felt like to have extra days of flying added. It was horrible. I have a husband and 2 daughter’s at the time (I just had another daughter in September and quit on maternity leave). They frequently added days onto my trips and it made me so upset and made my husband so annoyed. I knew I couldn’t go back with 3 kids. Reserve was so hard. I’m so sorry to hear about your husband’s grandfather ❤️

Cassie Rose yes! The job will always be there when and if you are ready to come back! A majority of the other woman(50+) in my class were returning FA’s actually...the oldest was 62 😳! So..it’s never too late!lol As far as me liking it..it’s yet to be determined!lol my IOE is scheduled for the 24th🙏 I am so excited to get the ball rolling tho! I returned home from training 2/28. I’m going stir crazy...it’s pointless to get a job a this point but the bills wont stop coming it while I sit here and wait either!lol That struggle is real...I saved what I could before training but I didn’t expect to be waiting so long for my IOE🙄 But I’m a firm believer in everything always works out ..one way or another:) Also...I got based in MSP..wasn’t expecting that either! (I’m from Detroit as well) Another reason why I couldn’t have done this job when the kiddo were little! Best wishes to you again! Keep the channel going if you can! Just to add some perspective to regional versus mainline carrier FAs. Is there tougher competition to be a mainline carrier flight attendant or is it part of starting at a regional and then eventually working your way up to a mainline carrier? I would assume that the pay would be somewhat less at a regional starting out. Thanks in advance.
@CassieSiedlik3 жыл бұрын
There is definitely a tougher competition to be a mainline carrier FA. The pay is significantly less as a regional FA. Many people get hired as regional with hopes to get hired mainline in the future. Before I quit I was actually in the process of interviewing for Delta mainline.
@goutvols1033 жыл бұрын
@@CassieSiedlik Thanks for the reply. In regards to tougher competition, will the mainline carriers hire folks without prior experience from a regional? Is the competition from higher test scores, age, etc.?

Well you were right at the Cusp of Completion. While all your issues may be valid perhaps you should have thought of these issues before becoming a flight attendant. How did you think it would be? You were in the military?

Yeah, I actually did think about those issues before becoming a flight attendant. I honestly thought I would be strong enough to spend that much time away from my family.
