Really great video! I am currently a flight attendant and I agree with every single thing you are saying. You actually paint a great visual of all the things I have experienced either directly or indirectly. It does depend on the timing, which I think post Covid is better now. I am from Cali and I sold my car, have no place, no debt, finished school already, so no student debt either. Potentials really do need to consider their debt, mortgages, and rents, because I roomed with other FAs in Charleston, SC and they had financial commitments in other states. That is literally double rent. So one would have to consider an airline already based in their state so that they don't have to move. Does not always turn out that way because sometimes the airline need people to fill other bases where there is a need. Having a car could be a plus if it is already paid off. Mine was, but it was 20 years old and having too many problems for me to keep. Another thing I would suggest is people are willing to go this route is to invest in an RV. A Mercedes Sprinter, something nice with all the things you need that is still in compliance with street parking and airport parking. I am based in Provo, UT, but there is an RV living area and park right next to our municipal airport that is way cheaper monthly than an apartment. Or often times there is not cost when you find the proper places to park on the street. OR if you are at a different base where you have family see if you can at least park in their driveway or in front of their house. That way people are not in each other's space. As far as reserve, you do make more money with a line, but I am liked reserved and am now back on reserve. I get more rest and have more time for my creative business. I am a small business owner and design creating products for my commission line at a shop in LA. I loved having all that time to myself while having two streams, one from designing and then my MMG. But yes, my other FAs complained allllll the time about not having anything to do, being bored, and was totally frustrated being on reserve. One thing is this. There are rarely ANY jobs that provide this much flexibility and customization in scheduling. I would really suggest that potential prepare themselves ahead of time, by creating some intellectual property from a expertise you have. I have always been a business woman and have created multiple streams so that you just don't rely on salary from the airline. Create an ebook, videos that you can monetize, travel blogging, merch, or something that you create once that people can download so that you have passive income. Those that have cars on reserved do Doordash, Uber, deliveries, etc, because you can turn those jobs on and off anytime you want just in case you get called in. As far as being away, I LOVE it. I am 44 and have live a few lives already. Was almost married three times, but thus I am single, no pets, no children, and this is my time to see the world after all I have been through. You are correct, that timing is everything. I wished I would have thought of this when I 22. It is a great job for anyone right out of high school and I encourage parents to suggest aviation to their kids. It will open their eyes and grow then. Then there are the older flight attendants who come from aviation families. Their husbands are pilots, they are FAs, and their kids are going to aviation school. They've been in it for 30 or 40 years (met in the industry on Pan Am or something) or are new to the industry and have that support. I was in airbnb's when I first got to Utah. Mind you, it is so much easier to live in the west. I now rent a room at a good price from a professor who works at the university nearby. It is a college town and I have not other large payments. So yes, there is a lot to think about before hand. But really we all go through it to learn it.

I remember allll of this! When i think about going back...the cons..outweighed the pros (training, being on reserve again, crash pads, diff base etc. Lol) I do miss the flexability the most. By the time i left, i was 4yrs and had the best schedule because of my regional seniority in my base.

I left United a few months ago and recently found myself missing flying. I felt like any job after that one would just be extremely dull in comparison and it made me a little upset about leaving. I work for G4 so we never commute and we are home everynight, BUT i'm glad you broke this down. Your right. 75 gaurenteed, but a normal job you can work that in a wk... So it's rough. The thing with G4, is we work with the same people alot, we never commute so no crashpads, we live at home on reserve... We have all the same travel benefits. But it's still rough the first year, alot of extra flying ( mission modes) arw always awarded to the more senior people. But it's alot easier to keep a healthy diet...exercise and all that. I love the job, but I'm 45 and wanted to be a flight attendant since I was about 7 years old...

I second that, people nowadays do not know how to act. Possibly... I have friends who’ve gone to fly mainline & they say it’s much better than regional. For myself personally, maybe if I did it right after college I would’ve lasted longer but the overall career just wasn’t for me.

Oh!!! But the first con. Hahaha. Chile! I am vegan too and when I tell you. I would really suggest people go plant-based as much as they can because dairy causes so much mucous and meat has lots of uric acid and can cause lots of digestive issues. These things will make you prone to more sickness including sugar. I don't have a choice. I can not eat anything on my plane. I do prepare my food and have order vegan food in the past when we would have layover, but Florida is the worse for the delivery people taking your food and eating your food. Being from a place like Los Angeles where I realized we have full access to lots of good healthy food, it is not like that everywhere. You have to rest, which can get thrown off and will throw off your immunity as well. It has taken me months to finally get my stomach regulated. I am from a very sensitive immunity group and am prone to parasites as well and man, I tell you it is the hardest part when you have a restrictive diet.
