as a lot associate i quit, why? because they don’t respect your job position, they make you work inside when they’re short staffed & once you’re done working inside they toss you outside to push more carts. Plus they get mad when you’re taking a 5 min break just sitting down outside because its exhausting walking around all day pushing 10 to 15 stacked carts.

I just put my two weeks (ends on the 27th.) I was lot as well. Everything you mentioned is what I experienced. My manager told me to do something that would take 30 minutes total if I had to get 2 of the three rows I had filled to the brim. He said just take out 1 and see if the painters needed more room. I was less than 10 minutes done with my shift and I was doing the closing shift. And didn’t ask when I was scheduled to be done or anything. I had to hurry just to make sure I was able to finish within my scheduled time. I told my manager after I got one row done and he didn’t acknowledge what I said and ignored me. I didn’t matter to him and he never bother to learn my name even tho he knew the lot attendant who‘s only been there a month or two longer than me. Nobody would help me and often times there wasn’t any lot attendants scheduled with me. So if I don’t matter, then ill just leave

I started in the lot for 8 months, got put into lumber, then promoted to a full time tool tech. I’m a ahy introvert so NONE of the times I was promoted did I ask for it. It all came from my work ethic. With HD your enjoyment/success largely depends on the store, but also your work ethic and enthusiasm. If you do great at those things trust me they’ll notice. I might even go back if this new opportunity doesn’t pan out!

@johannavinzon91023 жыл бұрын
I understand I just quit two weeks ago and only worked there there for one month. Supervisors or managers walked by and don't even greet employees or should I say they don't introduce themselves to you. The employees that's been there for five years just tell you what to do when there's no head cashier's around. One of them was a bully. You call for associate assistance to help customer to lift heavy items to their transportation it takes almost 15-20 minutes for the other associates (men) to come. You need to page them so many times customer were already upset or irritated.
@ericknoblauch91952 жыл бұрын
At The Home Depot where I once worked management promoted an customer service desk associate with less experience to the supervisors position after they fired the former supervisor. After doing so, they did not tell other employees. It was discovered later when having conversation with her. Also, while I was working a ASM walked past me, and as he passed me decides to fart. Management there does not respect their employees. That is why THD is always hiring. If they better treat their employees, there would not be hiring signs seeking employees.
@xrated2k32 жыл бұрын

Sorry about your experience. I've been working at Home Depot since 2017 and I absolutely LOVE it. I guess it's not the company that's really an issue but the LOCATION. I think most people quit their manager and not really the job. I didn't mind the job so much , but over the years the quality of all levels of managers tanked, some were down right abusive to some employees , certainly retaliatory to others and if you weren't part of Clique you were almost always under the gun. And of course any customer could get you fired for saying really anything and whether true or not the company typically took the customer's side. I will say there are plenty of old timer type regular associates , specialty folk and certainly ASM's that if they took advantage of the ESP stock program from day one and have 10 or 15 years in with the company, they could have accumulated $500,000 in stock maybe up to $1,000,000 if they timed the stock buys right (and were management). They discounted the stock 15% and there are times the stock tanked into the $20 dollar range . It's down now but still over $250. ..and has gotten to as high as $410 or so...per share , plus it pays dividends that you'd just roll into more stock purchases . So if you accumulated 1500 or more shares over a 15 year career most of it when the stock was $20-$40 then cashed out at $400 bucks that would be around $600,000 , putting in about $4,000-7000 a year into the stock plan, plus the dividend stock that bought more shares here and there. That's a decent payout if you were able to do that.

I worked 2 years with Home Depot as a Lot Associate. Honest fact was i hated it like how head cashiers and management just treats you badly about speeding up when you are and loading assistance too when they call you to load something for a customer but your busy loading like 50 bags of mulch, they will take advantage of you by not calling a department and tell you to still come then make up an excuse by saying “nobody was answering the phone.” And for breaks here’s what happens. They call a lot associate thru the walkie then there’s another lot associate on the floor and your head cashier is in the breakroom with you too and they tell you “breaks are not mandatory go out and help the customer” but there’s another lot associate on the floor who can take care of it. When you file a complaint against an associate to management, they won’t do nothing because management is as dumb as zombies. Overall i’m glad I put my 2 weeks in and i’ll finally be free.

Home Depot in my opinion made the classic corporate error not understanding the importance of good workers.Back in the day companies had a Personnel department now they are honest enough to call them Human Resources departments because they are telling you what they value.Not you as a person which is what the customer wants but what the company wants Just like the paper clips, the light bulbs and the store fixtures that's how they value people.I was a union member for much of my life and companies don't like unions because the union makes sure that employees are treated fairly.On top of the good wages and benefits I earned I now get a pension check every month instead of a worthless 401k scam.that companies push.When I worked for a non-union company and quit the fee to distribute my money was more than the money I had "invested".Best Regards to you.

It's funny you mention that, because you can tell a brand new employee by the way they tie their apron. I don't think it's taught in the first training classes. You'd think another employee would grab the person at the time clock with the wrapped around strings like it's a robe and teach em the right way but nope, they just let them walk out onto the store floor looking like an idiot.

@@jesuslabrada720 Happy Thanksgiving (it's one of your few Holidays off) and welcome to the big orange box. It's been about 5 years since I retired but it should go like this. (excuse the sarcastic commentary with in). Aprons come in a couple of sizes , and sometimes you'll get a small and you're a huge person or a XL and you are a tiny little person just because there are no new aprons in the size you need in the building. switch it out when new ones come in. They get dirty fast in the more physical departments. 1) toss the "top" apron string over your neck so the pocket (s) of the apron and your name (area) , home depot logo (or Homer) is facing front. 2) You'll find two very ,very long strings now draping down the center of your back towards the floor behind you. Reach back with either hand and grab either string and pull it forward towards your right or left hip (you'll want one string pulling forward for each side of your apron ) . If you look at the side (corner of the lower part of your apron about hip level) you'll see a brass looking hole (like a washer opening or it might just be a hole punched through the fabric of the apron). 3) take one of the two strings and thread it through that hole from the back side of the apron pulling it through the front. (Don't go front to back) . 4) Now do the same thing for the opposite side of the apron. (the strings are gonna be long unless you have a very large waist). So you should be standing there with the apron draped over your neck and two loose strings pulled forward through those holes one on each side hanging toward your feet. (Imagine your back looking like a triangle with the bottom section not completed yet). 5)Now grab both strings (one with each hand) and pull them behind your back , (sort of like you are being handcuffed, you might see examples of that with co workers on your first day and certainly over your career who get caught stealing or the occasional "customer" Asset Protection stumbles over taking stuff.) and tie them as tightly as you like into any type of knot that you can easily untie with you pulling one of the two strings . (so it's like tying a hospital gown). 6) So you're gonna still have a lot of apron string to deal with hanging there like a tail (unless your are very tall or very wide) , grab a box cutter or pair of scissors from some place and trim those to a more reasonable length for you to tie up before every shift. (leave some length though, incase you gain some weight) . Pretty much that's it for the apron. Here's hoping you get a locker that's about chin level and not one of em' at the very bottom of the rack along the floor. (leave nothing of value in the locker). Enjoy the job as best you can, some people ascend through the management ranks if that's a path you'd like to take; ASM's make a decent amount of $$. Specialty ( Pro, Appliances, Kitchen design, Millworks) departments typically are paid at a higher rate than an aisle associate and if you work pro that's one of the few areas where you get weekends off most of the time. (Depending on your store). practice apron tying and untying because your 15 minute breaks are often used sitting down in the restroom and you may need to take your apron off (or at least untie it) to drop the kids off at the pool. It is possible to use the restroom with it on, you'll see male associates just pulling the apron to the side for number 1's , some not taking it off for number two's depending on where their strings are tied up . But it's best to quickly pull it off , hang it on the stall door hanger (if it's still there) and get out of the stall as fast as you can , because other co workers need to use them as well and typically one of the stalls is down due to one of the truck drivers or customers dropping a huge non flushable load in there or turning the stall into a crime scene by back spraying feces all over the fixture, walls and floor as they hover or lean forward with explosive diarrhea. Just a word of advise not apron related, follow all the safety stuff as best you can , plenty of people get fired for getting caught doing "shortcuts" that could get the company sued if something happens , so remember to block the aisles with the gates, grab a spotter or two if you are operating machinery , wear safety harnesses on the electric ladders, OP's etc. and eye protection where needed/required. And wear a mask or respirator if you are sweeping the floor especially in the cement or fertilizer aisles. You'll see it in the safety videos and I think they might make you sign something that says they are not responsible for lung issues if you decline to wear a mask, and you'll find no one does wear a mask but your lungs will thank you in about 15 years when you aren't the guy in the doctor's office being told hey we found a spot on your left lung. (Try not to walk through the cement aisle or fertilizer area on your way to your car and back, pick a different aisle). Have fun in the Orange box, busy days go fast, slow days drag...like any other job.. ,

At The Home Depot there is a huge problem with the revolving door. Many people leave their positions all the time. Employee turnover is very high. Those they hire to replace those who leave are not trained properly. Management is not experienced enough to keep turnover down. Management is also inexperienced, and should not be involved in the day to day operations in running the store.

They don't care about availability. At the location where I worked, they gave all the preference to the college students, and their friends or relatives. If you were full time, they gave all preference to the part time employees. One employee who worked in my department never worked on Sundays, and he did not have any religious reasons to have that day off. He was part time. When I asked for Sundays off in order to help take my elderly father to church, they said, "No" Later I found out the guy who never was on the schedule, and had no religious accommodations was a relative of someone who was in charge. When it came to scheduling at the location where I was it was who you knew, slept with, and did extra favors for that played a part in the days or hours you would receive. If you were a relative or were banging the boss then you got the hours. It was a very toxic place to work.

I worked at The Home Depot during the start of the pandemic, and left a year and a half later. It was a very unpleasant place to work. Some of the supervisors and managers were clicky. When I had to ask for an intermittent leave of absence due to a medical treatment, the retaliation started with coaching sessions. Little did they know a previous employers manager was trying to have me come to work for them. After the second bullshit coaching session, I realized THD was nothing but a shitshow. This company is worse than working for Walmart. I never received the training listed in the new hire training packet handout where someone was supposed to walk the store and show you where and how to cut chain, wire, lumber, and to cut keys. When I left, I left the new hire packet paperwork for my training in my employee locker for them to find so they could see where they screwed up. The store manager also told the supervisor at the customer service desk to train me there to. Nothing happened with the training at the service desk either. When they pushed a second coaching session, I went home, and contacted my former boss who was trying to get me to work, and was offered an immediate job offer. When I gave The Home Depot my notice, their response was to remove me completely from the schedule posted on workday. I had all remaining hours taken away from me. I just didn't go back to finish my remaining time with them. My experience with THD was so bad that a district manager reached out to me through email and wanted me to answer some questions, and wanted to know if I had any comments. I did tell the district manager everything they did. I even told the DM they wrote me up saying I was late 4 times when the time clock detail only said I was late two times. Being late was also due to the medical treatment I had, and THD had the nerve to tell me I needed more documentation from my treating physician under the intermittent leave asked for.

Lots of dumb propaganda vids to watch, they make you watch them. Vids about how to be nice to transgenders and how unions are sooooooo evil. They told me upon hiring me that I could not wear t shirts, must be a collared shirt. So I bought some collared shirts as I never owned them before. Turns out, everybody in there wears a t shirt. Haha! I was snookered! But that's okay. Another bad thing is the floor is very hard, the fluorescent lights bearing down on you all day are very unhealthy in my opinion. No windows to look out. Just yuck! I get paid good though for a part timer. Good pay for this town, at least. This job is not for the feint of heart. To fit in, you have to be a scumbag of some type. Just my opinion.
