This is retail girls. Im 49 and worked 25 yrs in retail. All these stories are NOT UNIQUE. I lived it and unfortunately its typical. So unless you want to have this in your job history as well GO TO COLLEGE AND STUDY SOMETHING YOU LOVE! It took me years to accomplish college but i did it. I was a teen mom in an awful financial situation. I felt hopeless. My long list of retail jobs include The Gap Old Navy Macys Marshall Fields T.J. Max Pier One Home Depot Walgreens Claires Children's Place Burlington Coat Factory Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom. Folding jeans at the Gap sometimes waist high in the fitting room when i was still in hs stays with me. The pressure of opening credit cards .The disrespect. Standing on your feet for 10 hours. Dealing with working holidays and shit hours and schedules. I was so happy to put it behind me.

I briefly worked at the target cafe that shared a kitchen with starbucks and this one girl always looked a bit bummy like not fresh looking and smelled a bit. Well, this other worker came to me and was like "that girl is NASTY, she stunk up the employee bathroom and didn't even wash her hands and went back to making drinks". I was so shook, I reported her and customers complained about her too and she did not get fired! Me and my mom went back months later and she was still there at starbucks and my mom wanted a coffee and I told her about the girl not washing her hands and my mom still risked it. I was like HELL no.

I worked at VS a long time ago (like 20 years ago) after I graduated. The stories I have are disgusting, it would make you never shop there again. My last straw was Black Friday, I was violently ill, throwing up in the back in between greeting. I asked to leave because I could barely stand anymore, my manager told me no, I was staying till close (it was about noon). So I just left. That night I was in ER getting an IV because I was so dehydrated. Plot twist, 3 years later I went to David’s Bridal the day it opened to buy my wedding dress, and my manager from VS was now working there😲 She remembered me and proceeded to tell me what a horrible place VS is to work at🙄Yeah bitch member, you wouldn’t let me leave when I felt like I was dying! But girl, the things I saw in the 2 weeks I worked there I can’t unsee🤦🏼‍♀️ Nope, haven’t bought from there since! PSA~ The things I saw may have just been at that particular VS in Flint, Mi. But nasty, just nasty🤢

VICTORIAS SECRET IS THE WORST!! I was a Co-Manager (AKA Assistant Manager) there, way back in 2001-2003. My boss, the store manager, was always bullying everyone, a total bitch/mean girl. One day she called me on the phone on my day off and told me I HAD to come in. I literally told her no, and called her a “fucking bitch”. There was silence on the phone for about 20 seconds. She then said something about talking to me next time I came in. She thought she was going to intimidate me, but when she called me in for our talk I told her I was not going to take her crap anymore and told her she was an insane bitch! She told me she was going to call the district manager and I said “please do, and I’m going to be calling her too”. It was SO SATISFYING!! She got fired 2 months later.

I worked for bbw for over 2 years- honestly the sales expectations started being pushed way too hard that it was almost impossible(I would cry on my way to work worried I wouldn’t hit my like “quota” for the day because I was a top seller, so they expected me to sell like twice as much as everyone else, or I’d be scolded for not hitting it on my previous shift), and I got NOTHING out of it!!! No raise, no better hours, nothing. I was getting the exact same as regular associates that got to be on the register and relax/not have to sell. They’d constantly be on the radio in my ear piece pushing me to talk to every single person and sell to them(not everyone wants to be bombarded by sales associates while they shop). So I’d have to deal with customers either being nice and dealing with me, or getting pissed because I literally couldn’t leave them alone/wasn’t allowed to. And on top of all that, everyone wanted to be a top seller(no idea why), so there was unhealthy competition and constant fights between coworkers accusing each other of stealing sales. It was literally bananas. It’s supposed to be better now, but that stress was killing me.🖕🏼that

Having to be "on call" for VS was some bullish*t. I hated the whole you work part-time unless business picks up. So you need to keep the next 4hrs after your shift open, just in case crap they pulled. I won't even get started on the pantie table or the fact that you're responsible for everything in your section except, cleanup. I hated having to stay there until all hours of the night cleaning the store because my co-workers didn't know how to clean throughout the day!

I’ve never worked at Ulta but I wanted to so I applied & got called for an interview. It ended up being a group interview of about 15 people and the 2 women that interviewed us were probably in their late 40’s but they were probably the rudest, most unprofessional management/HR personnel people that I’ve ever dealt with. A few days after the interview, one of the women called me to schedule a 2nd one on one interview, and when she was asking me about my personal info to verify who I was, she suddenly blurted out, “Oh, I’m sorry, I think I called the wrong person” and then she hung up. Like, wtf?! 😳 I never heard back from them & I never tried to call them back. If management can’t even keep track of who their applicants are AFTER you’ve already interviewed once, then no thanks!

I used to work in the Lasenza uk, we didn’t have to approach 3 times but were expected to sell through fittings, not too much of an issue, but you see some weird stuff when measuring and fitting people.. the amount of fake boobs I was told to feel ‘because their sooo real feeling’ was unreal. Okay, SO I work at VS now. There's no "sales associates" or "cashiers" any more. There's "sales and support generalist". We do EVERYTHING. Sales? We do it. Bra fittings? We do it (although there are bra fit "experts" who are usually the ones in fitting rooms). Cashier? We do it. Floorset? We do it. Shipment? We do it. Back room shit? We do it. The best [/s] part? We don't get comission. There's only one "sales associate" at our store, and that's only because she's been working there since sales associates were a thing, and she's the only one who gets comission. SSGs are still pressured to make sales and get people to sign up for credit cards, but no comission. And there's STILL people trying to steal sales just so their numbers look good. 🙄

Girl we gotta get you to not let people’s actions affect you so badly! You can’t allow people’s shitty behavior make you so angry, because it only affects you! They don’t care if you’re mad. They can just go on with their day. I get it though. I wanna be the same way when people piss me off BUT I refuse to let them affect me or my life. I literally give NO fucks what people say, do or feel about me. They can say what they want to or about me. Don’t care! Ignoring them, smiling and living your best life makes them so much more angry than responding! Rude bitches make shit comments to me (I think we all legit deal with shittty fucking customers on the day to day!) and in my head I’m think you’re a rude ass pos, but on the outside I just smile and act soooooo sarcastically sweet. Usually they get embarrassed and tone their shit down lol but dang you go girl! “I will ruin your fucking life” hahah what would your dream career be? YT? I’m curious :) there is ALWAYS drama one way or the other with COworkers. There is no avoiding it. So I guess we just resign ourselves to working with people who aren’t always gonna like us or vice versa. Such is life!!!

OMG I worked at Kohl's for like 4 months and I couldn't do it anymore because they expected so much to be done in so little time at the end of the night, especially on a weekend. I swear I'll never work anywhere they have clothing again because folding all that stuff is a nightmare. I can't imagine how tedious folding up all those panties was!

I can remember staying until like 1am (we closed at 9pm) folding all the panties because our DM was supposed to come into town the next morning and the DM ended up canceling her visit.

Lol my one boss told me when she had a job as a teenager she called and said IM QUITTING WITH NO NOTICE. Turns out the manager of her job was her mom's friend or they knew each other somehow oops 🤣 once I decided to be a no call/no show at a job I worked at when i was 15 because I decided to go to lunch with my dad's mother instead. I got suspended for 2 weeks. Never did that shit again lol

My first job was McDonald’s and there was a girl who, don’t get me wrong, was REALLY sweet but she smelt like the most rotten BO I have ever smelt in my life. It was to. The point she would walk in the store not even on the working floor, the McDonald’s lobby and I COULD SMELL HER. I legit had to tell her at one point that she needs to wear deodorant because people are starting to talk about it and we’re switching shifts to not work with her. So gross.

I quit Victoria's Secret because they work you to death. I would wake up in the middle of the night folding underwear. Also, some of the managers were nasty to me, and took their jobs waaay too seriously! It was awful, and I took it as a PT job because I thought it would be a chill way to make some extra money. I worked at VS for a few months...so awful! The monthly freebies did not make up for the petty bitches who worked there who took their job way too seriously, the MF panty table at the end of the night when you’re exhausted and over it, the extreme pressure to sell overpriced bras that don’t fit most women and open credit cards for people, the pressure to measure every woman who entered the store with a measuring tape, and the amount of theft (which caused management to go thru employee purses every time we left the store, even for a break). Turnover like no other!
