The paying thing kind of depends on the culture... here in germany it s actually the exact opposite: the birthday kid pays for everyone. When I used to go out (500 years ago...) we would always pay for the birthday person. It could be a drink or a shot or pay their cover, you gotta do something!! When we go out with a big group of friends we take turns buying each other drinks. In the end you are really paying for your own drinks but it’s the nice thing to do

As far as the pregame alcohol... Definitely somebody Should have purchased it for the birthday boy, but I don't see that as being as big a deal I guess. However, I have a lot of guy friends and I can tell you that when it's one of the guys birthdays-once everyone is together and everyone is like out enjoying themselves... The birthday boy does not pay. It's pretty much just assumed. Like, in all honesty the birthday boy usually doesn't even have to think about it. The other friends usually rotate, but regardless, somebody is always taking care of the birthday boy at some point throughout the night. And I don't even mean just in paying for drinks, I mean supervision. Somebody is always looking out for the birthday boy to make sure that he is having a good time (it's unacceptable for him not to have a good time) and to make sure that he is safe and basically given free rein to be wild on his birthday cuz he knows his friends are looking out for him

My friends would not just have paid for drinks but everything. They would've even got a kick ass Air BnB or hotel. Sometimes we spend too much doing that, but it's nice to know that they care about you and want you to have a great day. We've traveled 30 people deep and everyone pitches in from bottle service to cabs, and usually 1 or 2 of the guys pay for the food. Idk. With a best friend like that, who needs enemies?

I'm assuming you are younger. I don't mean that in a bad way by any means. When my husband & I go out for someone's birthday, we say happy birthday, buy a couple shots & call it good. I wouldn't continue to follow that person around or keep paying for everything or keep all my attention on them. Especially if there's a whole bunch of us.
