That was a great interview, really got Dan to relax and reveal. Never saw Paul's channel before, but I follow Dan and Qiang Hui. But jeez, Paul has a lot of cranky rude trolls.

Do as I do guy - ignore the trolls , seemingly they are jealous of Paul's success and popularity. I call them bottom feeders or ambulance chasers. They hope to lessen Paul's subscribers / viewers and steal them. Once you have Old Dog, he's a keeper!

That's a nice way to put it. I started on the internet in '93 with AOL and I learned quickly that everyone is a keyboard warrior with no threat back. Life's too short to be critical of others/yourself.

Two important things I learned from Vagabond Awake: 1. Your not in Kansas anymore Dorothy. 2. When you go to a foreign country don’t walk around and show off your wealth. You’re just putting a huge target 🎯 on your back. I have to thank Dan for this. Learn from people who have the most experience.

You don't have to show off wealth 🤑 in USA to have a target 🎯 on your back, with 2 massive terrorists attack's (mass shootings by media) per Day, it's just a matter of "when" the bullet goes in ones back

In Dumaguete, a lively place to be, Lived an old expat named Paul, full of glee. He dreamed of fame, a life that’s grand, As a runway model, strutting through the land. With his weathered face and silvery hair, Paul set out on a mission, without a care. He practiced his poses, his catwalk so fine, Hoping one day his name would truly shine. But the locals couldn’t help but chuckle and grin, For Paul was a character, a bit of a whimsical spin. He’d strut through the streets, all confident and bold, With flair and flamboyance, a sight to behold. He’d strike a pose, arms in the air, Smizing and pouting, with a confident flair. The passersby would pause and stare, Amused by Paul’s audacious modeling affair. Oh, Paul, the expat with dreams so vast, In Dumaguete, he was an icon, unsurpassed. Though his runway dreams may seem quite odd, He brought laughter and joy to this coastal squad. So let’s celebrate Paul, the aspiring runway king, His spirit and enthusiasm, a delightful fling. In Dumaguete’s heart, forever he’ll be, The eccentric expat we all fondly see.

I absolutely agree He is a wealth of knowledge and has the experience of being there - not as a typical tourist or expat but one who adapts and accepts what is foreign to him. He's very diplomatic and personable. Never rude and very respectful to everyone. His travel mate is the icing on the cake. She is a very beautiful woman. Quite the Ambassador of Asia. I've never seen a 6' Asian woman. Blessings to you both...

You can reinvent yourself also. Maybe you want to be different than what you have always been in your home country but you knew it would not be accepted by your circle of friends, coworkers or family. Maybe the career that you had required you to be stoic. You're at a different stage of life and want to change your personality. Be the person that you want to be and it will be accepted by others in your new homeland.

It's too bad that most of us westerners don't realize our truth till it's almost to late. It's a universal cornerstone that most parents want, hope or dream for their children have a more fulfilled, prosperous and joyfully life. I'm sure if you interviewed members of past, present and future parents that that point would be expressed in your dialog. If not a conscience thought you know that societal norms would capitalize and somehow monetize that ideology. Over population competition and the advents of technology < AI make that ideology a mute point. They call that progress... When Paul and Dan came to the realization that they were just cogs of civilization and had the courage to jump off the merry go round or throw a wrench into the gears - did they find their sense of peace, joy and compatibility to nature. To live in the present and to connect was there all along but there was always someone who said you need more. How much is enough? I thank you Dan and Paul for showing ( living ) us in real time that all we really Need was there all along. I don't know if I'm just speaking jibberish but I just had to speak out. I wish nothing but enlightenment and safe travels to all who embark on a new journey and a new season.

@paulinthephilippinesolddog9234 I appreciate, admire and respect others who share many of the sensibilities, principles, morals and ethics. More in the past than now ( sadly ) the concept of INTEGRITY is how a man was viewed. I can relate to you Paul because you seem to possess all of the above in a sense that is relative to most. Plus you have a sense of humor, love to laugh and still may have some rough edges. Stay safe and enjoy your new chapter with Mae and the pooch.

Nice to here acknowledgement that the lifestyle you both enjoy now was enabled by where you were born. Slow travel and enjoying a comfortable lifestyle in a low cost economy is a luxury that, in the majority, is affordable to those who come from wealthy, developed countries like the U.S. with generous social security systems or enable significant wealth accumulation in a strong currency. So tired of the "retire early" types on YT who live in less developed countries like the Philippines or Indonesia (Bali in particular) promoting their lifestyle as if anyone and everyone anywhere can just quit their job and live a minimalist lifestyle in such countries surrounded by people living on the edge of poverty.

(Verse 1) In Dumaguete where the stray dogs bark, And the rooster’s crow ignites the start, There’s a magic in the air, a place to be, Where the city’s heartbeat sets us free. (Chorus) Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive, Underneath the sun, we will thrive, From the shores to the mountains high, Our spirits soar, reaching the sky. (Verse 2) Down the boulevard, the palm trees sway, As we wander through each vibrant day, Friendly faces, warm smiles so wide, In Dumaguete, love’s a constant tide. (Chorus) Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive, Underneath the sun, we will thrive, From the shores to the mountains high, Our spirits soar, reaching the sky. (Bridge) From Silliman’s halls to the old bell tower, Every corner holds a story’s power, The sound of laughter fills the streets, A symphony of life that never retreats. (Verse 3) Where the stray dogs bark and the rooster’s crow, We find solace in this charming flow, Dumaguete, a tapestry so diverse, Unveiling beauty in every verse. (Chorus) Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive, Underneath the sun, we will thrive, From the shores to the mountains high, Our spirits soar, reaching the sky. (Outro) In Dumaguete’s embrace, we find our home, United by a spirit that will never roam, Forever bound, our love will grow, In Dumaguete’s heart, we’ll always glow.

I loved this interview! I’ve been following Dan’s KZbin channel for several years now. I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dan, a while back, to talk about visas in Thailand which, as Dan said, can be complicated. I left the US for Thailand in 2017. I visited the US last month but have no intentions of living there again. Dan - you managed to reveal more about yourself and your life observations and philosophy than I’ve heard before. It was great to hear about this in more depth.

Hey, this is for Dan. I just viewed one of your videos where you interviewed a expat via phone 3 yrs ago. I initially found common ground with him when I 1st. arrived here in the islands. I ventured out and spent nearly 4 days at considerable expense, in hopes to break bread with him. Once I got to his meet & greet ( late) the only contact I had with him was a brief handshake and a photo to confirm to his viewers that he had a good turn out. I feel that when our eyes locked, he sensed that I knew what time it is - he ignored me then avoided me for the next several days even though I stayed in a hotel just 5 min. from his home. The entire period that I was at his event, he and his bruthas socialized and furthered their facade of being such humanitarians to the filipino community with their charity and compassion that almost called them out. Back in the states, these guys own kind call them players. Women of their own ethnicity don't put up with them. They all had ONE thing on their minds - exploit the naive women of the Philippines. They degrade women and see them as ( female area of their anatomy ) but grudely use the slang word widely used in their circles. Even in recent videos he professes to keep his women in check simply when the bedroom activity starts to wain is to just look at other women and she will straighten up real quick. I believe he has fathered 5 children total and currently 2 are in the Philippines. He is still married to a Black woman in the states that he refers to as FAT SHIRLEY and is non supportive of. He has the latest living with him with the girlfriend/mother who they call Boobie. In past videos if the child enters the room while he is vlogging, he gets impatient and summons his girlfriend. In one instance he warns his girlfriend not to get pregnant again but to service him ( he boasts) up to 5 times daily. It's that smirk he has on his face that most viewers might miss that assures me that he is a fraud. Local Filipi os are on to his kind and are having the NBI investigate him for Philippine moral violations. They hope to have him jailed/deported. I'm NOT racially prejudice but will not condone masogeny. There is what's named the Passport Bros. emerging rapidly in the islands and they encourage and coach how to prey on the Filipina. Again, all that I'm posting is my opinion and and personally witnessed. You take it from there. I don't want to see your upstanding reputation as a accomplished vlogger tainted nor your partner disrespected. For what it's worth. Take care, be safe and happy.

My goal was to have a corvette at 35. As it turned out I had two 280Zs a house or a mortgage a job I hated and was close to my 2nd divorce. Now I’m three times divorced, single for the last fifteen years. I play guitar in two bands. I have three daughters that are wonderful. I’m looking into buying some land near by, and I’m retired for one year. I camp and fish when ever I want. I’m happy but would like to make some extra money to allow for more. This economy sucks right now.

Hey Paul. I was wondering are there many retired expats who need to be living in the Philippines because they could not survive in their home country (US) on what they get from social security and/or their pensions? How common is that? I ask, because if I go there to retire that will be the case for me. From watching your videos and a bunch of others, it seems that I’ll have enough to live pretty comfortably there on what I’ll be getting, but it would not be anywhere near enough to live in Southern California on that. I’d have to keep working for a very long time to keep living here. Done with working.

You're probably sickness hearing it but gotta tell you, Paul your volume was way lower than Vagabonds. I had to have it so loud to hear you. My neighbors understood though. Great collaboration! 👍🏼

The moral of the tale is you don't have to spend all of your life working to stand still in your own country. If you have sufficient income coming in from pensions, rental income, from your native country why bother working your life away. I've lived in Thailand for 14 years and accumulated more money in that period than had I remained living in the UK. Its quite simple, if your disciplined, your going to have more money coming in than is going out due to the lower cost of living.

Hey Paul! Just found your channel. I just turned 60 and in 2 years, will be looking to move somewhere cheaper than Connecticut but in the meantime, I want to start my own channel and I noticed your audio and video were top notch. Can you tell me what you use for microphones and cameras? Do you use a mixer or how do you edit?

Nice interview Paul with a real go getter. But what I want to know is when did he decide too dye his hair and who is his hair dresser? Sorry but couldn’t help myself. For a easy cheep shot.

Heh Paul you have been giving this kind of information away free of charge 🤔 Maybe time to monetize it, looks like your gears were turning at times.
