The have been some changes in the garage. The Ferrari 812 Superfast has gone and it's been replaced by a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso V12. I discuss some of the reasons for the change.

Great choice Sam and congratulations father to be! One of my favorite trips was taking an FF to Monza with a mate a couple of years ago. Very practical and perfect for a 2000 mile round trip - though it did have a bit of a drinking problem! Congrats once again

Lusso's are awesome. I just wish they'd have thought more about the change from left t right hand drive. in the LHD cars it's your active leg against the transmission tunnel, so you don't lean your leg on it, in RHD you get Lusso knee from the gear selector bridge bashing you just below the left knee. The mirrors are terrible too, they dip to reverse, but then never go back to the position they were in before. However... the right road and the RWS makes the size of the car vanish and you can thread it through even tight B roads with a confidence the 812 doesn't give you. The steering is just not as sweet as the FF, and the front end goes light at high speeds (but you've got a 997, so you'll know about that) Ours has done family holidays with two kids to Tuscany, Scotland, Scandinavia and the Alps. It's a superb car!

First of all, congrats on the new baby! The Lusso is a beautiful looking, great sounding Ferrari and you get incredible performance in a "practical" package. 2 seat sports cars have their place and I hope to be adding one to the collection soon but I too am a family man with a wife and a teenager and one of the things you quicky realize is that you want to share your great driving experiences with your family. This is one of the reasons why I love our Honda Civic Type R. With the manual, you do not have to be going fast to enjoy the drive and it can pick up a go. You also mentioned something people don't realize about the various, increasing wider super cars out there. They are great on the freeway and a race track but not so fun day to day driving around town because they are just too wide. You are constantly aware of how big the car is in town so you are not enjoying the drive. I feel hot hatches like the Type R are a perfect blend of size, performance and practicality. Keep up the great work!

Very interesting. I'm thinking of an F12 but I suspect I would get more use out of a GT4C. Your comment re power nails it. I've kept my old manual F355 as you can drive it flat out, even in the damp with no electronic aids and feel so connected, hence I have hung onto for 14 years now. I feel I do need a Ferrari V12 to join it in the collection, as we are seeing the last to made.

The GTC4 _Lusso_ is a gorgeous car. Easily my most desirable Ferrari 8-))... The colour you have is very nice but that tan interior is to die for. It'll be interesting to know just how much you're going to use the _interior sound system_ when under that bonnet, you've got that gorgeously stunning V12 _sound system?_

Congrats on the news of having a baby. Makes sense to get a 4 seater with a family coming. GTC4 Lusso felt very similar to an F12 when I drove it. Doesn't have the better suspension of the 812 Superfast and rear wheel steering. Wonder if you will keep this one for longer than 6 months.

One of the joys of driving in the real world is that B road with manual shifts between 2-3-4 with gearing that makes it entertaining but not crazy. You just can't do that in a Ferrari. The 812 should be called the 2Fast. The Ferrari is an amazing piece of engineering, and if you approach engineering as an aspirational objective it succeeds. But for most people on most roads you're buying a car that is more capable than you will ever be.

Have you tried fitting a rear face child seat in the Lusso? I’m trying to decide between a Lusso and a Taycan as we are expecting a second kiddo in April. Truly curious if the Lusso is a legitimate option. Test drove one this week and love it!

It appears the GTC4 Lusso is a better fit for you and your family at this moment of time. I debated between a F12 and Portofino and chose the latter for many of the same reasons, new, warranty, 4 seats, drop top, 7 years maintenance, etc.

How are you finding it?

@@sammooresphoto it’s my first GT car, so it’s taken time and kilometres to fully appreciate its many qualities. A true Jekyll and Hyde the 3,9tt and 7speed gearbox is probably it’s best feature, rigid/responsive chassis, and killer brakes. The base suspension (upgraded with Novitec springs) is soft for my preference but looks good especially when fitted with aftermarket wheels. The car begs you to drive, its approachable and sexy. You can drive it to the track, exploit it’s performance, and hit the wineries with the top down on the way out … when everyone is loading up their trailers. Congrats again on the lusso!

I recently owned an 812 for 2 months too, then sold for similar reasons to you. Another thing about the 812 is that it was so loud in the cabin when cruising on the motorway (82 decibel combo of tyres and engine). What’s the cabin noise like in the Lusso when cruising. Is it quieter than the 812, or similar?

It's a bit quieter than the 812 but I'd love to drive one without the panoramic roof to see if there is a difference. I would appreciate it being a bit quieter on the motorway for sure.

@@sammooresphoto I’ve just bought a V12 Lusso too! Definitely a quieter cabin than the 812 when cruising, but still a great engine noise when pushing it in Sport. I remember Schmee added a Novitec system to his Lusso that allows the valves to be opened and closed on demand, which may be an option for me later if I decide I want some extra engine noise. In cold start the engine valves are always closed, but would be nice to have the option to open them. Anyhow, enjoy yours, and put some miles on it! These cars are meant to be driven. The V12 experience in a usable daily.

@@larrykippings oh brilliant! I bought a valve kit for the 812 which I never got round to fitting. I have the Forza Componenti one which does as you say and is the same kit for the Lusso so will probably fit that at some point.

Thanks, I think the Lusso is the same size, if not a little longer than the 812. The mount is a Delkin Fat Gecko (Triple), had it for quite a few years.

Yeah cost to get out of the 812 was very small (1k) and I got into the Lusso at a good price and consequently could now sell that for a small profit

Sure the Lusso is a cool dream car ..but those 4 seater Ferrari with this looong wheelbase- especially front axle to the doors always looks a bit weird to me. Whereas this doesn’t look nearly as weird on the 812. But I also read that the 812 is so strong that you almost cannot drive the car in a sort of relaxed manner …the engine seems to always say „go, go go!“

I thought I went to school alright - Dad had one of the few Jetta GTI 16V Zenders in white with white Zender turbo alloys and a red pinstripe running both sides of the car for the full on late 80s vibe. He had that car for 8 years and other dads got newer cars but none as special as my old man’s motor, as there was nothing like it. I suspect your little person will be over the moon when they reflect on the fact that the school run had the potential to involve a Ferrari. Stuff of legends, good job dad indeed ✊🏽👍🏽🙏🏽

I’m new to the channel, nice video here. As a dad of 3 I will let you know that you’ll need a 4 door to load and unload your new baby. With the rearward facing car seat you’ll never be able to reach the buckles and you’ll elbow the baby…

I think the first year when they just stay in the seat and you click the seat in will work. When they are older and you have to manually strap the kid in whilst in the car, that may be a more difficult proposition…

I felt that when you got that 812 you would have been better off with a GTC4 Lusso but I thought commenting that on your collection video seemed a bit negative and didn't want to spoil your excitement. For me, that extra performance between the top of a GTC4L and the top of the 812 Superfast is a chunk of HP that you rarely get to use. The traction control would eat that up for breakfast, or if that's turned off, the tyres would turn it into smoke. I'm also surprised Tim ordered an SF90 when he waxes lyrical all the time about V12 Ferraris and how he loves the 812 GTS. I'd take a Lusso over an 812 Competizione, and a bog standard 992 4S over any of the GT or Turbo variants, and an AMG GTS over a GT R or a GT BS. Is it the KZbin or showoff mentality that has to have the top model even if you either never, or less than 1% of the time, get to use the extra that it brings.

I would say it massively depends on which car you're talking about but I somewhat agree. I think i'd prefer it if the lusso had 600hp. One factor you can't discount with all of these is generally the more track focussed cars hold their value much better so make a much better ownership proposition (and for the youtubers get more views) They also are generally a bit more raw and fun at lower speeds. As time has gone on though they are less appealing to me. 991 GT3 is quite a nice sweet spot of amazing engine and useable on the road, after that they start to get more hardcore and track focussed which puts me off owning one a bit. I suspect Tim will get a V12 in the future

@@sammooresphoto Maybe it's my age, being older than you. You're heading towards my direction :-) I did have some mad cars when I was your age (M5 for example). For me now the value proposition comes into it. Not because I can't afford the top spec one, just that I feel that those horses up top are overpriced especially compared to how often they get used. Plus give me touring comfort over rawness every time :-)

as a fellow youtuber, I can attest that it's even more annoying to Sam than it is to you. That happens with autofocus in low light situations. Difficult to check when self filming as well, so yeah, it happens, as annoying as it is.

Definitely not a forever car - not even a 5 min car; that thing is ugly. I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but that thing looks like the 44 chromosome offspring from a debauched liaison between a Jaguar and Panamera. Why someone with financial resources would exit an 812 for that thing is beyond me. No need to sell the 812 -- BMW, Audi, Mercedes and Land Rover offer the assorted chap plenty of SUV choices. Just add one to the garage..

Coincidentally I bought an 812 earlier this year, swapped it after 2 months for a V12 Lusso which I’ve just bought. I loved the looks of the 812, loved the engine note when B road driving. Unless you’ve owned one though, you can’t comprehend how loud the cabin noise is when crushing on the motorway, nor how powerful the engine is and how fidgety the handling is, nor how hard the drive is (bumpy road button does nothing on an 812). I always wanted a V12 Ferrari to take into Europe for touring, the 812 is not that car, it’s no GT. Driving an 812 for long distances is very stressful, both physically and audibly. You need to actually own one to understand. I am devastated that I had to sell the 812, but I wanted to buy a naturally aspirated V12 Ferrari that I could enjoy daily, and hence the Lusso. I think the Lusso is very attractive in person, and like most quirky Ferraris is likely to age well.
