Why I Sold the Canon RF 85mm F1.2 for the RF 28-70mm F2.0

85mm 1.2 is too tight indoor that's why the RF 50mm 1.2 is also available. Hopefully, they come out with the RF 35mm 1.4 lens.

just finished watching this video and your 135 video. I'm a bit torn about getting the 28-70 f2. for a standard zoom range, i was considering the 28-70, 24-105/2.8 and decided this one is better for me. when i was about to pull the trigger, i am thinking, it's quite a bit of money for this 'standard' range that doesn't really wow me like a 70-200 range or the 15-35 range. I think in the end i'll stick with my 28.2,8 + 50 1.8 combo for this area which i've been using for a while (before it was a 35/24 before the 28 came out. I don't think i'll sell my 85mm lens, but i do like the 135mm range more. ah first world problems! great video and congrats on 1.5k subs! heres to 1 mill!

Great video. I currently shoot 35/50/85 and 24-70/70-200. It’s a lot to swap between. My 50 is my most used lens, but I’m thinking of reconfiguring and switching to 15-35/28-70/70-200 and keep the 85 (it’s an EF and less $)

However, what’s stopping me is 1. Love for 50mm and 2. Love for the 24-70 late in the wedding day when I need a “light” lens. I can’t imagine having to lug the 28-70 late into the day when I’m only shooting dance floor etc

That's the perfect trio plus 1 to cover an array of shooting styles (landscape, astro, portraits, etc) 15-35/28-70/70-200 and 85

I returned my RF 50 F1.2L & RF 24-70 F2.8L in favor of the RF 28-70 F2L. And I personally feel the 50mm F1.2 is the best lens I've ever owned. But... I feel the 28-70 is the 2nd best and it's so versatile. I don't have to swap now!!!

The 28-70 also has the 50mm feature on it. What difference do you see with the zoom lens from the 50mm 1.2?

First of all 50mm of 28 70 f2.0 is never a true 50 , it near about 45. So if you go to 55 it will act like 50 mm but the optical blur you get out of 50 mm 1.2 is beyond competition. 28 70 is just overrated. I still on 85 mm 1.2 , 50 mm 1.2 and 15 35 2.8.

Great info! We were deciding between EF 50mm f1.2 prime and the EF 28-70 for Patty's next lens. I think you convinced us that prime is the way to go for the EF lenses. I was hoping that the same versatility would also apply to ef lenses. Thanks.

If clients aren't going to care about a bokeh difference from ƒ1.2 to ƒ2.0, will they really notice if you take it easy and shoot the day with a 24-105L ƒ4.0? We own all the usual RF wedding suspects (it's a big lens bag) and the RF24-105 never disappoints. Some of our second shooters live all day on it. Super sharp and talk about a range. I only point it out as once you slide down "the clients will never know" you can really pull towards convenience and never look back. Also, want an 85 that goes close? Get the RF 85 ƒ2.0 macro - again CRAZY sharp and your clients won't know. We have two of them, along side the ƒ1.2 monster and I never look at the little macro images and think "we should've been shooting the 1.2"

thats not a fair comparison when 1.2 and 2.0 are only 1 stop away from each other vs being over 3 stops on from 1.2 to 4 and the bokeh is way more noticeable at that point.

I made all of the correct choices with the photos you posted. But you are right most customers may not be able to tell the differences. the question though is if you are not a pro is this worth it?

I clearly can see the differences between your pictures 😂 (20 more year experienced myself) the bokeh on the 28-70 is kind of "shaky" i dont know how to describe that feeling in English. But 85mm 1.2L is just smooth and creamy feeling

I prefer the RF 24-70mm 2.8 because it's 2.8 is more than enough for me plus it focuses faster, closer, and it is better for video.

Well if you don’t like dirty shots and just flat clean images then yes, the 2.0 is better than a 1.2

2.0 | 1.8 | 1.4 ..1.2 That is a lot of stops I am missing. The only thing I dislike about you right now is the fact that your frames are not evenly spread out. Leave my RF 85 1.2 ALONE 🤣🤣🤣 Great video but I will not let go of my 85. Bread and chocolate. By the way I am selling my RF 50 1.2 and RF 24 - 240mm for anyone interested so I can buy the RF 28-70mm 2.0 since I am not selling my 85 ever. That lens took away 2.8grands from my pocket and I will never forget the way I was broke after that, so I will use till warranty expires and it falls off a cliff 🤣😅😅😅

Can't use an 85 indoors? Are you shooting weddings in Airsteam trailers or airplane cockpits? That's one of the craziest things I've ever heard on the internet.

Oftentimes with traditional Chinese, Cambodian, and Vietnamese weddings, we have intimate ceremonies at homes that an 85 wouldn’t be able to cover. Backyard receptions are common as well, and there isn’t much space to work with so you have to be cognizant of the variety of wedding coverage and clientele

@@timchuonphotography I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were trying to cover an entire event with one lens. Yes, then an 85's a poor choice. A 24-70 might be a better play for you as you get even more range (24 v 28 is a big deal). I, too, photograph tea ceremonies, intimate weddings and backyard receptions and always make room for an 85 (two actually, the RF ƒ1.2L and RF ƒ2.0 Macro). In these tight spaces, 85's pair well with a 15-35. Glad you like the 28-70 - mine arrives next week.

I think the lens to compare to 28-70 might rather be the 50 1.2: It requires less 'foot-zoom', and it's more indoor friendly then an 85. Still, it'll get you more background blur then the 28-70 @70, plus you can double your shutter speed at fixed ISO - which to me seems it's biggest benefit for indoor event use. An 85 always was a sort of speciality lens to me, and this is why I went with the adaped EF 1.4L version for cost reasons, which isn't bad either. And if just bokeh is what matters, nothing can beat the 70-200 2.8 anyway.

28-70 F2 and 70-200 F2.8 here, I rarely use my most beloved lens of all time, my Tamron SP 35mm F1.4 (which in my opinion is the best 35mm ever made), I shoot over 130 wedding per year though
