My first experience, or actually memories of a 1911 was my grandfathers Colt M1911A1. I never got to shoot it because I was only 8 when he died. He told me someday when I was older, I could shoot it. That never happened though. My Uncle got it after grandpa passed and I never saw it again. But I have vivid, clear memories of him at his kitchen table stripping it apart and meticulously cleaning and lubing it. The smell of the solvent, oil and his pipe tobacco lingering in the air as I sat and watched him in awe. My grandmother would be griping at him for not opening the windows and stinking up the house as he chuckled about it. I loved those combined smells. I wish they made it in an aftershave! Sorry for the long comment. I just went back almost 52 years with those great memories!

Dream gun! This or the Ice, non-threaded versions. I've honestly thought about just getting a 1911 as my first pistol. Not necessarily one of these since it's close to 2 grand. But finding a more affordable 1911 with a rail that's reliable isn't the easiest. I haven't shot one. But my first experience with a 1911 was my very first trip to a gun store to talk with them about guns they recommended. And the gentlemen that day put a Tisas 5 inch 1911 in my hand. 450(ish) dollar gun. I've always loved how the looked and even though that one was "cheap" the feel of an all metal gun was quite nice, and single stack for me having smaller hands and shorter fingers, it felt comfortable.

Mike, I have ALWAYS loved the 1911. I recently got a Springfield Garrison, 45ACP. Not fancy, will be a carry gun. The sights are fine. All of my 1911s have a LOT of rounds through them and are getting old like I am. I had a birthday in August and the wife felt pity and noticed me moping around and said buy it. Not a Texas BBQ gun, but I don't really own BBQ guns. Triggers on 1911s are just so different. It can ruin you to use something different. That said, the old G19 still goes on the belt in the morning when I go out to check the livestock, water, fences, etc. That is a well-worn piece. I clean it on Sundays because of all the dust and dirt down here in South Texas and sweating on the gun. Hope you have a bucket of fun with your new 1911! That is a fine-looking firearm. I was left-handed once. A serious injury has caused me to become right-handed. It seems easier to do having had to be the odd man out in a right-handed world, so I am used to it now. I do not have a dominant eye, so no issues there. (weird, I know, but life deals you all sorts of cards).

Nice review! When I sold the earlier Rapides in 9mm, 10mm and 45acp there were issues. However, Kimber took care of them with good turn around time and there were no issues afterwards. I'll still with my Aegis Elite in 9mm, no issues very accurate.

I own a few Kimber’s: Rapide (Dawn) 9mm KHX 9mm Raptor 9mm Carry Pro 9mm KDS9C 9mm Desert Warrior .45ARP Had a little trouble with the Raptor, but Kimber took it and fixed it pretty quickly. The other guns ran flawlessly. I want to get an Aegis (9mm) at some point to complete my collection. FS 9mm 1911’s are beautiful shooters.

Good stuff here man. I have to say badass is an understatement here. I have not shot a 1911 myself yet. However while I was back home a couple of months ago I did handle a Ruger SR1911 9mm. I dry fired for about a minute and that trigger was divine. Looking at this piece I just wish they gave you at least 13 rounds of 9mm.

My first experience with a 1911 what is my dad‘s bright stainless Colt Commander 45acp. I was just old enough (14-16) to fire a handgun and I went to insert to mag and ended up pinching my palm. It was the start of our range session. Our dumb range only allows 5 to be loaded so every time I reloaded after that I inserted and then pushed with my thumb to make sure it was seated in the pistol instead of the normal palm press/smack.

I had a Kimber Raptor II and I set my target up with clothes pins because my range is fuddy. I had been shooting my Glocks before I pulled it out so I was tired of shooting at paper so I decided to aim at the clothes pins and I nailed 2 in a row. Next mag there was a 40 S&W rd in my new box of Winchester and I didn’t catch it and after that went off and I watched the bullet go about 10yrds and drop I called it a day. I didn’t know it was a .40 at the time so I thought I messed up my brand new high dollar 1911. I just happened to find a 2nd 40sw in the box and felt better.

Former Delta guys like Pat Macnamara and Larry Vickers all have said that they treated their sidearms instead as primary. This was because they were routinely only carrying them or were doing hostage rescue ops where compact platforms were necessary and only pistols truly provided the size needed. For that reason they carried various 1911 & 2011 style pistols because of their inherent accuracy over striker fired guns.

Hey Mike if you ever get a chance or have the funds, could you do a video on the staccato p and various others on the higher end side of the 2011 market like the nighthawks and alchemy custom. I know all three of them are great but would love to see your reaction to the three and doing a side by comparison not which is better or what not but more so which one is the route youd go for. For starters Nighthawk is fully custom, how custom is nighthawk, if you find a pistol or 1911 they dont have production wise you can basically call them or email them all the details and specs and theyll do it too pretty awesome have seen some nighthawk customs real custom designs they dont sell and produce as a production base line. Alchemy custom basically the same methods and idology as Nighthawk only difference is that they can only do certian things and its only whatever they have in shop. Staccato, have heard and been told they can do custom works however im not sure how custom it is im assuming its very very limited
