Baby girl! Please stop listening to the nay-sayers! I live in a first world country and it's the most unhealthiest. 90% of fruit is seedless, overly processed food, most air polluted environment with all chemicals being released! A lot of people try go to 3rd world countries and cover it by saying 'they're going on holiday'. But let's face it, they admire the quality of natural food and life style! And not forgetting how depressed majority of the community is! So be proud and count yourself truly blessed to live the way you do! I admire you so much and I hope to live the way you do at some stage!

Did I hear that right, facebook and twitter? 😆 This channel is a gem. Many people are either very invested in an alienated, extractive, avoidant "modern" lifestyle. Or they are trying to escape it but have fallen into reactionary traps. They think gmos are wrong not because of exploitative copyright but because they are "poison". They talk about "chemicals" as if plants are also not chemicals, as if plant-derived substances don't need just as much respect wariness and research as petrochemicals. Or they have bought the lies of diet culture and think bread is bad for you or some such nonsense, but they do not pay mind to the toxic farming runoff that gets in their water. Or they have a real homestead, but they are bizarre conservatives who hate marginilized people. Who believe the right foods can miraculously cure lifelong disabilities, that wives must be subjugated, etc. Channels like this, that provide an actual window into indigenous technologies and way of life from an earnest standpoint are truly valuable. You are not just making a living for yourself but showing people beyond the limits of their imaginations. It reminds me of the LiZiQi channel (channel of Chinese Indigenous technologies) and Braiding Sweetgrass (a book on North American Indigenous technologies). Take care!

Thank you, Joy, for sharing your story. Modeling is not as glamorous as most people think. I have been there and can relate to your story. The rejection! Lord have Mercy! Sometimes one wonders what exactly the casting directors and designers are really looking for, in a model. You can have the height, looks, a great walk, and everything else but still get rejected a million times. It is a tough business and if you don't have a thick skin and a great supportive system, you can collapse under the radar. May God be with you as you partly immerse into the content creation world. My best wishes.

I knew there was something more that drew me to this channel. I grew up in what most call poverty. At least by US standards. I was a teenager before we had indoor plumbing. To the outhouses we went. We raised r own food and had some animals for food. I was bullied but didn’t understand why at the time. Now I’m 50 years later and I’m in the same house. Now having a homestead is the thing to do and what I know is now considered valuable. Go figure. Many people in the US judge others based on clothes, homes and cars. If it all fell to pieces tomorrow they would be the first to fall. I love learning about ur village and the people. I believe we r connected with each other on these basic levels. I’ve seen u in New York and in photos. But ur smile is more beautiful and genuine right there in ur home village.

We are each "brainwashed" by whichever society we come up in. Some people are more curious about other cultures than others. It has been said that travel (and genuine interest in other ways of living)has the ability to bridge the gaps. Learning new languages, learning how to cook dishes of different cultures, reading..the key seems to be genuine curiosity A good place to begin is on a mixrocosmic level, your neighbors. I have learned ALOT just from getting to know neighbors and learning how they live.

A few things I want to say. It's sad and embarrassing to me that people treat others with such indignity, they don't understand the culture. 2nd that's kind of our media and our social dynamics fault. People especially in the states, I can say are so brainwashed to believe that in order to have a good life you need so many things, the best things in life, most expensive things. And yet the states are full of very self conscious, self disconnected, selfish people. Who are not even all that happy. Soo many people are miserable and they say and do miserable towards people who to them, seem to have less then what they have with out realizing that they are the ones who don't get it. A happy life isnt material things, you live a life that is so free and so beautiful, and you are seemingly to be a very happy healthy person. You are the one with all the riches in the world.

I grew up in some of the poorest neighborhoods of cali Colombia, but some how in the middle of crazynes my mom never treated me or let me think of my self as poor, I loved our culture and just realizing that we had so much access to awesome fruits and veggies. Once I came to the US I aimed for careers and jobs that normally "poor" ppl would not aim for, I got a bachelors in Kinesiology, masters in biomedical science and now I am on my path to Med School. It has been challenging for sure, give the lack of resources. But I still think that the fact I did not have a limiting mind set allow me to make the most of what I had and aim high.

Your videos of you in nature is very therapeutic for me. I currently live in the west and feel out of place here. When i was in Uganda i felt so at home. My family in Nigeria have that mindset that village life is for poor people. Yet they complain about living in Lagos. I perfer village life and i want to return with my children to Uganda. Its hard being in Nigeria because all my family do is ask for money. They say im blessed to be born in the west. My american mother never really saw life outside the U.S. She only been to Barbados. When i was in Uganda and the hosts were cooking on 3 fire stones i was fascinated by it. The food was so tasty 😋. My son went back for seconds. Food cooked that way is so like i cant describe but lets say no gas cooker can compare. You look so much happier at home and when youre modeling you look stressed. My sister use to model but quit because of the pressure. She had dreams to be a veterinarian. She's my older sister and i had to convince her to live her dreams. Don't model just because some relatives forced you into it. Your choice your life. Now she's doing better. I love how you're in nature i cant wait to get back to that.

I'm glad I'm here too, and I appreciate you inviting me into your culture and homeland. Thank you. I too find the kinds of questions you're asked terribly ignorant (at best), and often just plain offensive. Our forefathers and mothers weren't any more stupid than we are, and their struggles were often harder but not that different from ours: they needed to lay their heads, and fill their bellies, and keep their families clothed, safe and dry. They needed to educate their children. The tools and the techniques change, and sometimes that's wisdom and sometimes that's fashion. Questions like "do you still live in huts?" could be (and should be) asked out of genuine curiosity, but they almost never are. There's almost always some stigma that these things are backwards, and worse, that the people that way are embarrassed about the past, or are embarrassed that they must live that way in the present. It's offensive on many levels. I know that not everything we did in the past was perfect, for us, those around us, or the planet. In my country (Ireland), our houses used to be built on the assumption that there would be cheap, abundant peat (a type of solid plant fuel) to burn, and large fires worked to keep us warm in our damp and cold climate. Turns out there are some problems with this plan. It turns out harvesting peat is actually really bad for the planet, and the drafty houses we built, which worked great if you were burning a large fire constantly get pretty damp and moldy in the abscence of constant heat and airflow, so insulating these older homes and changing the fuel type doesn't yet have straightforward or perfect solution. Changes are needed in how we do things. And some of that is sad. I love the smell of peat fires. Do we still live in the homes of our ancestors? Sometimes, sort of, and for now, I guess is the answer. The house I live in was built in the 1950s, but probably looks about 200 years old to most outsiders. It was a practical building in its time. The people who sold it to us probably thought we would tear it down; nope. With time, we'll fix it up. Some of that will mean leaving some of the past behind, but with love and gratitude, not shame. "Am I a forefather?" I don't know, but I certainly think you are worth listening to now. The people who built the house we live in our gone now, but younger neighbors tell us about the roses that used to grow around the gate, and fondly remember the cakes the woman of the house would share with school children spotting in on their long walk home from school. People's stories outlive them, and I think yours will be told for a long time.
@saoirsevicteoiria27593 ай бұрын
Sorry, I went on a tangent. Part of my point was also: if it's not broken, there's no need to fix it. Your homes are incredibly practical and, bonus, very earth-friendly. We should all be so lucky. You've described many techniques in your videos that are also useful and practical. When someone asks "why do you do that?" it should mean, "why do you do that? I'm curious" not "please tell me so I can judge you from my place of ignornance". Please keep tell us about about Ugandan village life for as long as it's something that makes you happy.

Hi lovely Aketch 💗With all respect; it was actually very unsettling for me to see such a beautiful (inside and out) person like yourself who really understands the importance of nature and community be involved in high fashion...an industry I personally consider to be the opposite of what is natural and good. The photos of you I saw on your Instagram looked so...I don't know, joyless? Which is typical in fashion; but to me it was such a weird contrast with you having such a radiant inner joy. A better photographer or designer would have worked with your inner joy and beauty to convey that and collaborate, but they just seemed to use your body for their vision instead. I don't mean to say they are bad people, I have no idea, but the high fashion photographs of you made me sad at heart and I stopped looking at your Instagram then. I'm not trying to make you feel bad or wrong-it was of course what your heart called you to do and probably brought money to your family and village-but it was just so uninspiring compared to how you are as a soul and being. I felt defensive for you like: "Don't make her look like that! She IS JOY! She IS beauty and goodness!!" 💖 Thank you for being you, and shifting to making videos and sharing yourself and your village authentically full time. You are giving the world something really beautiful and unique through that, that fashion never can.

We are having a slow shift in attitude in the U.K. regarding living with the land as opposed to apart from it. The wise ones that I respect intellectually are living more slowly with purpose and living ‘off grid’ sustainably where possible. Ironically living off-grid requires money in U.K. and if you are poor you are trapped in the capitalist system of needing more all the time, bad housing, high rents, pollution, etc. The system is designed to keep you in debt and reliant on it. To be rich in the U.K. is to have freedom, time… most don’t realise they are bound to a financial system they cannot escape from, even those with very comfortable incomes. Eventually humans will come full circle when they realise chasing personal financial wealth doesn’t fulfil the soul or benefit community or the planet.

2:07 I am so happy about what you said here. Too many people associate the lack of electricity and water from the tap with poverty while at the same time claiming to purport sustainability and environmentalism. The fact that electricity and running water can only be acquired through non-sustainable non-evironmentally friendly means escapes most people. People in non-Western nations are literally dying so that other people can have the convenience of electricity and running water. Those things, however, are not necessary in order to live a happy life. Furthermore, the overall cost of acquiring and maintaining those systems is why common people have such a hard time controlling their finances. First, there's the electricity, then there's all of the electrical gadgets that people think they need. Next comes the stress in trying to afford those items as well as the related health issues that are associated with some of those things (specifically, products that connect to the internet). It's very inspiring to see someone pointing out the fallcies of modern Western life and modern technology, and I have to say, especially a non-white person. Unfortunately non-white people in particular are very materialistic and unconcerned with environmental issues. This is despite the fact that they are the ones who are most negatively affected by climate change and are also the ones who are the least financially capable of affording modern technology. Yah said he would destroy them that destroy the earth. The modern Western lifestyle is destructive to His planet. This is partly what is meant in Revelations about enduring through hardship to achieve life eternal. I hate with a passion the perception that non-white people purport about non-modern Western lifestyles. The damn tattered blue tarp swaying in the wind and the children wearing tattered clothes covered in soot and dirt looking half starved and the plastic trash everywhere. Not everyone who lives a non-modern Western lifestyle does so because they're forced to or because they're poor. Some people choose to live that way and they live well, in well built clean homes with clean happy and well fed children. I pray that Yah will bless you in what you are doing and that you will inspire more people into adopting a similar lifestyle. LMBO the frog part, though. 😅😅😅

In my opinion being wealthy and having a life that is rich isn’t about how many things you can buy to be happy, it’s about how you can be happy with what you have. Making your happiness independent of material things is in my opinion, a key to making your life more sustainable and fulfilling.

I love the fact that you are not putting all of your confidence in booking a modeling job, but you have branched out to become a fulltime content creator. You shared words of wisdom for those desiring a modeling career. My life has enriched from watching your content, for without it, I may never have seen a realistic view of what life is like in your part of the world. Thank you!

Your dress is gorgeous indeed!!!! You are a model you should start promoting dress designs from great minds of Africans fashion designers. Create a network of people over there that can support you. Look for fabrics patterns and play with the imagination. You already have the experience. Let's to start talking about fashion development in different countries in Africa theiir inspirations etc. Always the best❤
